  1. Which, unfortunately, is probably just about what you can expect from Escobar right now.
  2. APC has some larger rackmount UPSs that work pretty well and don't typically have problems. You'll have to replace the batteries every few years, but that's true with any UPS.
  3. I was kind of confused with Schroeder's comments myself. I thought sending a runner while someone like Fielder is up went against conventional wisdom.
  4. If we really wanted to benefit from the pitcher batting 8th thing, we should have moved someone else in the top 4 spots toward the bottom. Something like: Weeks Braun Fielder Hart Hall/Branyan Cameron Hardy Pitcher Kendall If we were trying to create the illusion of a second leadoff hitter, no sense having Mike Cameron hit in the imaginary 3rd spot.
  5. What I would do is save it as a .csv, import it to a mysql database, and write a simple php script to display the data. It might take a little bit of SQL knowledge (depending on how complicated a spreadsheet you have), but it's not too terribly difficult.
  6. I played blackjack at a casino once. Apparently I didn't play the game the way it is meant to be played, because some crabby people at the table kept yelling at me and saying things like "WHEN YOU HAVE _______, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO ________!!!!!!1". You would think that, if these rules actually worked, the people gambling would win more than they lose. But they don't! Weird! Anyhow, I told them that I'll lose my money whichever way I feel like losing it, and then left to go waste it on slot machines.
  7. I think Ned must have seen an angel rubbing Tony Gwynn's shoulders tonight. And Seth McClung used to be Mel Clark.
  8. One thing to consider about Dillard is that he was drafted as a catcher, so its possible that he has more development potential left in his arm than the average 24 year old. Of course, we said the same about Wes Obermueller...
  9. Maybe we can make Bush into a throwback, 3-inning-save type closer.
  10. My body has hit the flooooooooooooooooooo.
  11. LOST???? http://www.colinbaker.org/files/images/07-08-07_1303.preview.jpg
  12. If coaches can't do any of that, what is the point of having them?
  13. Yeah ok dude (TH, not you). If it could have been "totally irresponsible" like you say, why did you even post it in the first place?
  14. I guess I just can't wrap my mind around how not having legs would give someone an advantage in sprinting. If you look at most Olympic sprinters, most of them are pretty big and muscly dudes, not skinny guys who try to weigh as little as possible. I could maybe see this guy's legs being a problem in a marathon, but not a 400m. There is the slippery slope argument, but I highly doubt we'll see that many amputees who are fast enough to come close to qualifying for the Olympics. Even this guy probably won't make it, and he's a Paralympic world record holder. If a guy like this comes around once every 50 years, I don't see it being that big of an administrative headache to look at everyone on a case-by-case basis.
  15. I haven't played OOTP since 6 either. Not sure if anyone plays Football Manger, but the current OOTP screenshots look quite a bit of like that. If so, are the games similar now?
  16. I think that's kind of like saying that a woman couldn't compete in a PGA event because "that's what the LPGA is for". I understand the argument, but in the end, it comes down to whether or not they're good enough. If he is, I'm all for it.
  17. Agreed. There are far worse things a pitcher can do than smoke weed everyday...like getting hurt. Great to see him back in the box scores, and lets hope the rust is shaken next time around.
  18. Exactly what I came here to say. The separation of the two leagues is one of the little things that I really enjoy about baseball.
  19. Don't know how you lay off that one. Now, let's look at the Piggly Wiggly Scatter Report!
  20. I agree with this 100%. Maybe we should have stuck with the closer by committee thing, then maybe Ned would have used Gagne in the most critical situations, even if that situation occurs in...gasp...the 8th inning! Also, am I the only one reading Owen's posts in my head in his radio voice?
  21. I'm going to throw out a Tim Dillard option here. Remember, he was #11 on the Power 50 a year ago. Had a mediocre 2007, but has done very well in a long relief/piggyback role this year. His career numbers look similar to 2005 Dave Bush, which I think most would be fine with. DiFelice would probably be my first choice, but Dillard is worth a look too.
  22. If you need to ask, its probably a good idea to go. Though, I agree that for the no insurance crowd, rubbing dirt on it should help.
  23. It worked out well, but I disagree...Parra was doing well, he had gotten 9 outs in a row, pitchcount was in the low 80s, and nothing was getting hit too hard. Going to the bullpen in the 6th inning of the first of a 4-game series seemed unnecessary. And to be honest, I don't think Parra is that much worse of a hitter than Gwynn. Reminded me of 2003 when Ned used to pinch-hit Brady Clark when he really meant to do a defensive replacement...it was almost like he was playing a video game, and he really badly wanted Brady in defensively, but couldn't find that option in the menus.
