  1. Villy should have been moved down in the pecking order to mop up guy for awhile now, but he hasn't been. He pitched thursday instead of Defilice, and he pitched friday when McClung was available. Those decisions had a big hand in costing us 2 wins.
  2. I think Hart and Hardy's situations are different. One is a really valuable player who is in a slump, and the other is Corey Hart.
  3. That certainly a possiblity, though the Yankees might take Cameron even if Jackson is ready, just because Cameron is a good player. Jackson is having a very solid year in AAA. Either we'll keep Cameron, or get at least 1 draft pick, either way we win. Hart in CF, with McGehee in LF and Braun in RF is also a possiblity, though more of an outside shot.
  4. Jodie Gerut was worth more Wins last year than Pierre was worth each of the last 4 years. If we're desperate for a CF next year, I'd rather go with him at under $2 million than Pierre. Odds are pretty good than Lo Cain will be a productive CF for the Brewers in 2011, I wouldn't want Pierre's big contract then.
  5. Nelson Cruz was a far better minor league tha Katin. Cruz had an OPS almost 300 points higher at the same age. Cruz also had very good OBA's in the minors, where Katin's are horrid. These players don't compare. I'm hoping someone who doesn't value OBA is willing to give up something to give him a shot, but I'm not optimistic.
  6. The results suggest everyone who criticized his weight were correct, not "idiots". He got his fat butt in shape, and now he is a dominant hitter again, and is defending better. Without the critism he might have continued to eat himself out of the league.
  7. Bailey also signed for more than the slot value deal the Brewers gave Rogers, so I'm sure that was a factor too. Baileys numbers are still bad, so its hard to say he's made it.
  8. I do agree that we should be constantly on the phone with Moore to see what horrid move he's willing to make next, but it seems like he prefers players with some hype attached. Actually, I have no idea what he thinks. I'm guessing Moore thinks the guys on Baseball Tonight know there stuff. If there GM did have a brain, the type of deal we could expect for Hall would him for Kyle Farnsworth's slightly less yucky contract.
  9. That rumor was true, but the Sox turned it down, Bailey wasn't even enough to get Dye, and Dye isn't that valuable. He's never been worth more than 3.2 WAR since the advent of that stat, and was worth just 1.7 last year. By comparison, Hardy was worth 4.9 last year. Dye is playing as well as he has in years, while Hardy has been awful, and Dye has still been worth just .2 more WAR. Bailey has upped his production with trhe addition of the splitter, but that pitch is notorious for causing elboe issues, so at what cost? Also, why would the Reds deal Bailey, they don't have surplus starting pitching now that they've lost Volquez.
  10. If the Brewers give up a large package to get Halladay, would we then turn around and deal Looper for a prospect? While he just mediocre, I think most would prefer starting him to some of the guys starting on contenders like Jeff Weaver or Rodrigo Lopez. Getting a SS prospect back would be ideal. Dealing starting pitcher, even guys that are nothing more than tollerable, is usually pretty fruitful.
  11. I gotta agree with Al here. Unless someone really believes Hardy is a sub-700 OPS hitter or that Parra is really a 7+ ERA pitcher, we're in this thing. The fact that we play just 3 games between now and the end of August against a team with a winning record should help immensely.
  12. Gil Meche was worth $21.6 million last year. His salary was a bargain, and the Royals have no reason to dump him. If we dump Hall's salary on someone, it will have to be for a bad contract.
  13. Garret Olsen pitched well filling in for Bedard, sp he gets Marrow's spot for now. They have an excellent rotation with Bedard, Felix Hernandez, Washburn, plus Jason Vargas has emerged along with Olsen. Thats how they've become a contender despite the ALs worst offense.
  14. I thought the most interesting part of the article was that many see Peralta as a future reliever. Some him are projecting him as a guy with unlimited potential. he's likely somewhere in between.
  15. His birth certificate may say 25, but his body says 45. He'll only make alot of money if you consider a AAA salary huge money. As a prospect, he's nowhere near close to top. He'd compare to Chris Cody, who doesn't make the top 10 either.
  16. The Brewers should get the Mariners involved as a 3rd team in the Halladay trade. The M's are a contender, and could use some offense. As much as Hart has disappointed us, he;s still light years better than the M's strating LF, Endy Chavez. The M's have some prospects that might interest Toronto, including a bunch of Canadians. The M's could really Scutaro from the Jay's.
  17. I wish Jack Z was our GM. Cortes was the Royals top pitching prospect. Saito is a lefty who was just drafted last year. He's only 5'9", but throws mid-90s. He's only a relief prospect, but a very nice one.
  18. I don't see how Weeks injury hurt our pitching. we're scoring just as many runs as we were with Weeks. McGehee has been better than Weeks. Bush pitching hurt is a major factor, as was Parra's implosion. Those might be solved soon.
  19. Eveland is still fat, soft, and lazy. Thats why we dumped him in the 1st place, and thats why Arizona dumped him too. He had talent, but his character makes it wasted talent.
  20. Toronto has Rolen signed through next year, so Gamel doesn't make an immediate impact for them They have a better catching prospect than Solome in AAA in JP Arencibia. There RF, Alex Rios, is signed through 2015. They have no SS. Escobar would have to be the center point of the deal. Green makes good sense for them too.
  21. There is no indication of stardom. He won't be an 800 OPS guy for years, if ever. Defense just doesn't carry as much value as hitting does. Gamel has hit as well as Braun at every level at the same age, and has terrific batspeed and approach. He could be a star. He's an asset right now. I agree with the majority, I'd deal Escobar before Gamel. If we don't develop another SS by 2011, find a stopgap. Our lineup will be awesome with Weeks, Braun, Fielder, and Gamel in it, we won't need offense from the SS to be a top run scoring team.
  22. The Brewers should have just picked my guy. Marc Kraus signed immediately and is already tearing up the Midwest League. Why pay extra for Boras guys when theres other good players available?
  23. Maybe try reading a few of them then. Try post #63. I see no reason Toronto would decline that offer based on what they've said publically they're asking for. OK 804Sox, you know your team, what would fit better? We know Epstien likes Hart, and has continuously searched for a righty swinging OF. Scaturo is better than Nick Green. If Bowden is too much, who could the Sox part with that Toronto would value? Escobar, Lawrie, Green, Periard is the start of a great offer to Toronto already, Bowden likely isn't even nessecary as the 5th player. Hart and Scaturo for Bard and Navarro? The problem is so many of the Sox prospects are below AA, except for a bunch of quality OFs, and Toronto doesn't need those.
  24. If you read through the rest of this thread you'd know the Jays have a higher rated catching prospect in JP Arencibia, and he's closer to being MLB ready than Salome.
  25. Al is still living in the Bando era, when we had a botton feeder payoll, and our minor league system was 3 players deep. Cost control is less important when your deep in average-ish players. We can replace prospects that we trade away. We draft well.
