  1. First of all, i think it should be obvious that Beane is a fine GM With that said, i do think a GM should get some flack if quite a few high draft picks produce little or nothing in the bigs. To just say, well the draft is a crapshoot, that absolves the GM of blame for failure or strips away them deserving credit if a player/players do well. The backbone of those good teams under Beane were Zito/Mulder/Hudson. Beane got credit in bringing in those three top notch pitchers, but if the draft is just a crapshoot, he then shouldn't have deserved any credit for the great drafting. It can't be that he deserved great credit for all the fine drafting the A's did for a number of those years and now that the A's drafting hasn't been good as of late, just say oh well it's not his fault since the draft is only a crapshoot. That line of thinking also means guys like Gallardo/Hart/Hardy etc should be taken off Jack Z's resume because it had to be mostly luck because the draft is mainly a crapshoot. For me, i'd just say Beane and his staff of scouts have done a poor job of drafting lately compared to years in the past.
  2. I wasn't going to play fantasy ball this year, but now i wouldn't mind joining one league....I'll join if you need someone yet
  3. Does anyone know what Prince/Boras were hoping for? Another 50,000? Another 100,000? 200,000?
  4. Even though James had a total brainfart in fouling the shooter with 2.5 seconds left, i never cease to be amazed at how many coaches don't foul before the shot while up three points and under 5 seconds left on the clock. If Crean had Marquette foul around half court with about 4 seconds left, Georgetown would have had to make the first free throw, miss the second on purpose, get the rebound, and put that rebound in the hoop quickly. I'll take my chances against that happening any day over letting a team get a three point shot up. Come NCAA Tourney time, i have no doubt that at least a few teams will get burned with a few seconds left and holding a three point lead. They won't foul before a shot can be put up and they will pay the price for it.
  5. Clark Kellog is a great sidekick to the ultra talented Gus Johnson Listening to those two call the Marquette game was a pleasure, to bad Marquette had to choke at the end
  6. Love The Doors and Scarface. Watched Grey's Anatomy one time while my sister was over, it was quite enough to never watch it again. My overrated Onions Fake hooters Pamela Anderson being hot The Grateful Dead Two movies--Airplane and Hoosiers
  7. Sorry to hear that That's a nice vet clinic, i took my bearded dragon there a few times and i was happy with the service along with fair prices
  8. Weeks is the guy i'm really hoping has the year many Brewers fans have been waiting for him to have. I have no concerns he'll take is walks and get on base, i just want to see more consistent extra base hits through the who season. If he has that special year, this Brewers offense should terrorize pitching staffs.
  9. I like that Cameron's going to get good pitches to hit. Look at everyone who hit in front of Prince last year. Braun, Hardy, Gross when he got white hot. Cameron's the exact type of hitter who's going to explode in that type of scenario. He's a straight fastball hitter. I doubt Cameron will or would get pitched much differently regardless if Fielder hits after him or Braun does. Both guys can absolutely rake and the last thing pitchers will want to do is walk Cameron so they have to face Braun or Prince. Plus, walking or allowing a hit to Cameron if Braun hit third opens the possibility of Braun getting on base next and thus having to face Fielder with two men on base. I have a very slight preference to batting Braun third and Prince fourth simply for having a R/L/R situation with Braun/Fielder/Hart late in games when relief matchups get factored in. Either way though that the lineup gets set with Braun and Fielder isn't something i'm to concerned with because i don't think it will really make much difference.
  10. My uncle google mapped the base my brother is on in Iraq and you could see his mess halls and where everyone slept. Pretty amazing you can do that and in less than a minute see an army base in Iraq.
  11. I learned a semi expensive lesson about rushing my dog to the vet instead of first giving a few days to see if he'd be ok. If they have just say a sprain or sore that simply needs a bit of time to heal, they can't tell you this. If your puppy has a severe problem that needs quick care from a vet, my guess is he'd let you know by his actions. As for a local vet, i took my dog to Crawford Animal Hospital on 108th and Layton after he had a terrible reaction to a bee sting and i liked the service i got and thought the price was fair. This is the phone number if you're interested. 529-3577
  12. Outstanding Not only is HD a pretty picture, the analog feed for Fox Sports was terrible
  13. I caught that quote right away as well. From what I've heard Braun is very confident. Which, lets face - it just a nice way of saying he is pretty cocky. As long as the Kid puts up a 1.000+ OPS (And doesn't start kicking puppies or the elderly), I don't mind a little swagger. I don't mind cocky athletes so long as it's not something to where conduct turns off teammates. I hate the Red Sox as much as any baseball team, but i'm a very big fan of Manny. He has a swagger and sometimes cocky attitude, but from what i see, his teammates all seem to love the guy. Deion Sanders in football was cocky and played with swagger, yet every guy that i've every seen interviewed who was a teammate of Sanders had only positive things to say about what a great teammate Deion was.
  14. That's the key to a good steak. Put one on a grill that's not hot enough and you'll likely end up with an overcooked steak by the time you get the char on the steak. Another key IMO is often the steak you'll find at the grocery store just doesn't taste as good as you'll find at the butcher. Sure the butcher will be more pricey, but for me at least, if i'm going to cook up say a porterhouse, i'd rather pay an extra few bucks to have a high quality cut of meat. Even better is i live right by a butcher and they have a very tasty steak seasoning that i have them put on when i buy a few steaks. In fact about a month ago Pick N Save had a sale on steak so i bought two porterhouses, one for me and my daughter. They tasted decent, but there was a noticeable difference in them between what i get from the butcher. That's why when porterhouses were on sale again last week at Pick N Save, i just passed on buying any.
  15. Everyone is mainly just focusing on stealing bases from guys on the Brewers, but another very great aspect of the team speed is taking extra bases. There are no really slow players on the roster that figure to play a lot, even Prince moves well for a man his size. That should mean being able to get extra bases outside of stealing compared to other teams without much speed that really can't be put into a stat. The ability to go from first to third on singles, score from second on base hits instead of having to hold on third, score from first on a double, and/or being able to tag up where a slower base runner might have to stay put. This is a very athletic and fast baseball team, especially given all the power in the lineup.
  16. ... How things have changed in just four years, heh.No kidding. Our lineup this year will not only be easy top 5 power wise in baseball, it's one of the fastest overall. Most teams with tons of power tend to have non-athletic players, the Brewers can not only steal bases, they will go from base to base at an above average clip. (pared back long quote --1992)
  17. If either Braun or Hart got hurt, Gross could have a big role playing either LF/RF vs any righthanded starter. Good teams have depth given how injuries could strike at any time.
  18. I like that he's not one of those owners who buys a sports franchise and then treats it like his own fantasy team. I'm sure he's involved in some decisions, but he's not a Herb Kohl type of owner where the GM has that title in name only. Attanasio lets Melvin do the job he was hired for, make the roster better instead of having Melvin run each move he wants to make through a few of Mark's cronies for their approval first.
  19. I'm not sure if this has been posted already on Brewerfan and if so, go ahead and delete it. This was my first time reading the piece and i think it's very well done and quite interesting. Gwynn's big hit
  20. I'd never get a pitbull because i simply can't help but fear something sometime could get it to snap and harm someone. To be fair though, i've known two people in my life who had a pit and both dogs were as mellow and well behaved as any dogs i've ever encountered. Both owners of the pitbulls also had kids and the dogs were great around them. Hell, my little terrier is 10 times more excitable around strangers than either pitbull was.
  21. Thanks for the idea TooLive and backup, i think i'll hit a pet store and check into one. I can generally shut up Tyson by going towards him and giving him a stern look once he starts barking at a person walking by or at a car parking close to us, but he won't listen to my daughter and it does get annoying for me on days with tons of people/car traffic passing by the patio window. Plus, for a small breed dog, he's got some lungs in that bark. The water collar might work great because he hates water with a passion, so much so he panics if i purposely make him walk through a puddle and he treats baths like the water is a tub full of anthrax. (pared back long quote --1992)
  22. That was one of the more baffling draft choices i can remember They were loaded with forwards, but had zero point guards. The draft has two premium PG's coming out and instead the Hawks draft a third SF for their team.
  23. I hate most veggies so i'm almost a full blown meatatarian
  24. I wouldn't sweat what anyone else thinks, i know i never do, there are always going to be preachy people trying to say what you should do on all kinds of issues. Like you, i did research and wanted certain breeds that best fit my situation and the shelters around here simply never had them while i was looking to get a dog, so i went the breeder route and things worked out very well. It was pretty amazing that what was listed and said about Tyson's breed in regards to temperament was nearly 100% spot on. Prior to getting him i never knew just how different dogs are based on breed. Thankfully i wasn't to implusive and did the research instead of grabbing the first smaller dog my kid liked without me checking into breed characteristics. (pared back long quote --1992)
  25. Hey RoCo, not sure if you want to go this route, but here is a link to many Shiba's for sale shiba pups As for Tyson, he's doing well except for one issue i can't break with him. I read that his breed is wary of strangers and it's the case with him. I live in an apartment with a large patio door which has lots of people walking by all the time and he barks at nearly every one of them if i'm not in the room to keep him quiet.
