  1. I'm curious. I didn't follow the minors back then, but how did the Brewers manage when they had their AAA team in Denver? They were cranking out the prospects then, both pitchers and hitters. And I seem to recall the Brewers having the most winning minor league system a number of years back then.
  2. Yes, it's official. 7th member of the 2009 draft to make it to Milwaukee.
  3. But do you worry about hitters picking up bad habits and having trouble hitting away from Coors Field Lite?
  4. Through next season. How about they follow Biloxi's lead and play all their games on the road?
  5. If Braun continues to mash over the next month or so and ends up as the clear-cut best player on the Brewers, is there any chance he gets selected as an all star reserve or is he blacklisted? The only other option would seem to be KRod at this point, but he may not even be in the top 10 for saves in the NL.
  6. So who picked Goforth as the first member of the 2011 draft to make the Brewers?
  7. No ideal options. Thornburg is just starting to get on track. The rest of the AAA rotation has been terrible. Otherwise you have to call someone from AA and add them to the 40 man. Blazek did throw 44 pitches on the 22nd, so hopefully, he could give you 4 innings.
  8. Looks like Harrison is activated and Aviles goes to "Helena".
  9. Not any more. That rule changed a few years ago. It used to be that you could go back if you didn't hire an agent. Now, once you declare for the NBA draft, you are done in the NCAA. No going back, even if you are not drafted.
  10. I wonder if Rogers is still getting work in the OF? He has 67 games in the OF in the minors, though none last year or this year.
  11. Gennett activated from the DL and Schafer optioned to AAA.
  12. With Gatewood hurt, does that mean more 2B for Demuth?
  13. It will be interesting to see what they do about promotions if Coulter and Roache continue to mash. Plenty of opportunities in AAA, but none of the AA guys are really ready for promotion.
  14. Lopez and Rivera were draft picks. Not sure those are the kind of guys we're talking about here.
  15. And with the Coors Field effect in AAA, how many top guys are going to stay in AA and maybe jump to the majors to avoid getting screwed up in AAA?
  16. Also, if we're going to credit Jack Z's drafting with much of the success, then how much credit should go to Taylor and not Melvin for hiring Jack and rebuilding the minor league system? Of course Taylor's trades were terrible and lost any talent left on the big league team. But was most of Melvin's success due to keeping Jack Z on?
  17. I won't disagree with you about the lineup, and obviously it was our home-grown position players that drove the team's success from 2007 to now, but I did specify "Jack Z's poor drafting of pitching." Considering that Sheets and Gallardo were the only two starters that Jack drafted that stuck in the majors in ten drafts, I stand by my point. I was including Greinke and Marcum because both of those came using Jack Z draft picks. I'm not sure how much you can blame the current team on Jack Z any more, since his last draft was 7 years ago. Players from the last couple drafts are still around, but most of the earlier drafts would be FAs by now. And certainly, the entire minor league system now is on Seid. Though I will grant that 5 of the top 7 starters for the Brewers are now homegrown, largely thanks to Seid.
  18. This I agree with. The Brewers are where they are now in no small part due to Jack Z.'s poor drafting of pitching and Bruce Seid's (rip) poor drafting of almost everything, sad to say. I disagree with the first part. Jack Z built the team that won 96 games and won the division in 2011. 13 players on that team were either his draft picks or from trades using his draft picks, including the majority of the starting lineup. I agree completely with the second part. The first few drafts after Jack Z left were disasters and that is what we are living with now.
  19. Thanks for sharing. Very interesting.
  20. Plus it's likely to be short-lived, so they didn't want to make multiple moves.
  21. Anyone else look at the AAA box scores and for a second, you look at Nashville and wonder if we picked up some new players?
  22. I think part of the reason that Brewerfan.net is less active is because of how many more options there are. Back in the day, this was the only place to find out about prospects, rankings and the minors. Now there are all kinds of sites out there. Before I found this site, I used to post on a message board moderated by Gregg Hoffman (who wrote "Down in the Valley"), but it wasn't very active. I figured there had to a better place for Brewer discussions and a search brought me here (actually to that horrible message board site that predated Yuku. What was it called?) Edit: It was ezboard.
  23. Colorado Springs is giving me flashbacks to High Desert. Any pitcher who survives there should be pretty good.
  24. Molitor, Yount,Cooper, Fingers. Fingers wasn't around for a long time, but he was a huge part of the early 80's. HOF, Cy Young, MVP.
