I have seen quite a few billboards around town this year with Braun's picture for AirTran. I think they've been up since early in the year. Something along the lines of "when he goes home, he flies AirTran."
Very cool. I live just a few blocks from there. Too bad we rarely get pizza's due to my son's food allergies. (unless he's got some egg-free, dairy free pizzas)
It could open within the next few months. Link There was a longer story in the Business Journal that I read previously, but now it's subscriber only. Braun talks about how the small market affected his endorsement opportunities at first, but now he is seeing more regional opportunities. Edit: It occurs to me that the words Tavern, Grill and fine-dining rarely go together. It will be interesting to see what kind of food they have.
I'm a homer. I follow the Brewers religiously, but I really don't give a rip about any other teams. Really, college basketball is the only sport were I'll follow the tourney/postseason, even if my team isn't in it.
A piece of my childhood dies. RIP Puff the Magic Dragon. Quite the year for celebrity deaths. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090917/ap_en_mu/us_obit_mary_travers
Growing up in SE WI, my parents had 2 cherry trees. One did really well (a sour variety), but the sweet one didn't do much. The trees also didn't live real long. The big problem, though, was getting the cherries before the birds.
I remembering hearing at the farm at the Milwaukee Zoo that milk varies greatly between the types of cows. So the differences in taste could also be attributed to different types of cows.
True about the produce. It's very hard to find good produce at Aldi or Woodmans. At Aldi you've got to find out what days their trucks come and get the produce right away. I definitely skip the produce at Woodmans.
Yes, Roundy's owns Copps and Pick n Save. Roundy's had great prices until that Chicago Investment firm bought them some years ago. Funny story about Chairman Bob (can't stand those ads). He used to visit various Pick 'n Saves during grand reopening events to talk to employees and customers. He got so many negative questions and reponses, that he stopped attending the events.
There is an Aldi's on 27th Street in Oak Creek and Woodman's on Howell & Drexel in Oak Creek. Both close by. I do 90% of my shopping at Aldi's. They mostly sell their own brands, but I've found that most taste the same as the name brands (and are usually made by the same plants that make the name brands). They also have weekly specials, where you can find some name brands on sale. Aldi's regular prices will often beat sale prices at other places. Then we go to Woodman's about once a month and stock up on things that Aldi's doesn't carry. (soy products for my son's allergies). Rarely shop at Pick n Save any more except for an occasional sale item. Most things are too expensive. I've found that even the Walmart Supercenter prices aren't that great for groceries.
I've been sitting next to the IKON multi-function printer/fax/scanner/copier for years and it always reminds me of Office Space. People opening and slamming every possible door trying to clear the paper jam. People kicking it, saying some choice words. It's been breaking down all the time, since it was brand new.
I had forgotten that we traded him for Ruben Quevedo. I guess I had wiped those bad memories from my mind. Is Melvin trying to undo the bad trades of recent years? First he brings Cirillo back, then he tries to bring back Doug Davis, now Weathers. Is Fernando Vina still around?
I'd rather see Swindle go, but I could see how this could come down to roster decisions. Swindle gets optioned, then they still need to make another move to free up a 40 man spot. Smith is out of options, so he gets DFA'd and takes care of the 25 and 40 man spots.
I saw him pitch last week Sun or Mon and thought he looked alright, especially when everyone else was getting shelled. He struck out two batters on nasty 54 mph pitches. We all did a double take. It looked like he was throwing in slow motion.
http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/52372257.html TH reports that Prince and Fiers are going to Appleton and Maresco getting sent to Helena. How long before Prince jumps past Brewer? Amazing that he already has more walks than any other shortstop in the system.
I just don't see any way the Brewers resign Cameron next year, unless he takes a big pay cut. By my count, the Brewers could drop Counsell, Kendall, Cameron, Gerut, Hoffman and still have about $75 million tied up in the remaining 20 players.
I certainly picked two great games to go to, giving up 26 runs in two days. I guess this is a new low for Brewers games I attended. My previous low was in 1991 when the Brewers lost 14-4 to Boston. At least then I got to see catcher Rick Dempsey pitch the 9th. I was hoping they'd let Hardy or another position player pitch the 9th. Would have at least been entertaining.
I was at the game and just one thing to add to what was already said: What was up with the roof? Right after the Hart homer, it starts raining a bit. Nothing heavy, but a shower. Roof stays open. 5-10 minutes later, the rains stops. Then maybe a half hour later they close the roof. Yeah it was cloudy, but it wasn't raining. As soon as the roof is closed, the sun comes out. Very odd.
The Brewers only need a 5th starter 2 times in July after the All Star Break (19th and 28th), assuming Bush is ready to go on the 20th. It will be interesting to watch how the rotation is lined up after the break. This could be a very important start for Parra and where he ends up.
I'd say it's largely due to their inability to hit during day games (10-15 record). They are dead last in hitting during the day (.209), but first at night (.274)
