  1. Possibly. It could be keeping other teams in check. Or it could indicate that the tax kicks in at a level that is too high. That makes it primarily a Yankees tax. But the luxury tax is a joke to the Yankees.
  2. There shouldn't be much difference between the converter box and the digital tuner in a new TV. With either one, you may actually get more channels than you do now. For example, CBS 58 in Milwaukee has subchannels 58.1, 58.2, 58.3. A few other stations have subchannels as well (PBS has a bunch). A useful website is http://www.tvfool.com/. Use the TV Signal Locator. It will tell you which stations you should be able to pick up from your address. It will also show the direction that the signal comes from. Some antennas are very picky about being aimed in the right direction to pick up a station.
  3. Yup, here's another vote for Kesslers. They cover everything, including losing the ring. They'll clean it, fix it, etc, whenever you want for free. You don't have to take it in every 6 month or every year, like some places, to keep the warranty. I've had great luck with them.
  4. They could start by having a luxury tax with some actual teeth. It should kick in at a lower level and force the team to pay a much higher amount. What is $26.9 million to the Yankees? It's just 6% of what they're paying CC, Teixeira, and Burnett. The luxury tax is just lip service and is meaningless.
  5. I get to play with my 4 year old son's toys. Lincoln Logs, Shuttle Mission Mega Rig building system, and Gorilla Mountain Playset. Who needs presents of your own, when you can be a kid again with your own kids?
  6. I always have to watch "It's a Wonderful Life", it's probably my all-time favorite movie. I usually watch some version of "A Christmas Carol." The George C Scott version is very good. Others that we watch often, but not every year are "Bells of Saint Mary's", "Miracle on 34th Street" (original), and "White Christmas". Usually watch the Rankin Bass movies Rudolph, Frosty, and Santa Claus with my son. Yeah, I'm into the classics. I'm not a big fan of the newer movies. Have them all on video. My collection of 80+ Christmas CDs also leans toward the classics.
  7. No idea how fast I can throw, but I do throw a pretty nasty knuckleball.
  8. I've had quite a few Dell laptops through work and have had pretty good luck with them. I currently have a D820 with a 15.4" screen. It's a widescreen, so it's nice for watching movies. But I wish it had an S-video output like the D800 did. It's a pretty big laptop, so I couldn't imagine what a 17" would be like. I would definitely go with RAM over processor. I've got 2 GB. While it's pretty good running XP, it would be nice to have more. The biggest complaint is that the batteries stink. They're great new, but after about a year, they only hold a charge for less than an hour. So plan on either using the power cord a lot, or get a spare battery. Harddrive space really depends on if you're going to store a lot of pics, videos and mp3s. Those really eat up space quickly.
  9. Got another 4 inches between 7 and 10 when it finally let up. So about 14 inches total. Still haven't finished the 4 foot mountain at the end of the driveway. The snowpiles on the sides of my driveway are now up to my chest. What am I supposed to do with the snow from the next few snowstorms? Well, the son is off school. I can work from home Monday and Tuesday and then I'm off until Jan 5th. Mabye I'll just hibernate.
  10. It's my son's first snow day on the last day of school. Longer winter break. I went out to shovel in Muskego at 6:45 and there was probably 10 inches, and it's still really coming down. Got about a third of the driveway shoveled and took a break. Good thing it's fluffy snow. I wouldn't be able to shovel it, if it was any heavier.
  11. That sounds like the "Turkey Mignon" that Aldi's sells during the summer months. They are my favorite item to grill and they're easy. Just wait for the plastic thing to pop out. Very good. But otherwise, I'm not a big fan of bacon.
  12. I may be off on the arby numbers, but I get around $70 million with the current players. Add a closer, a utility infielder, and a backup outfielder, we're probably a bit over $80, which I assume is about it for this year. Fielder $7,500,000.00 Weeks $2,500,000.00 Hardy $5,000,000.00 Hall $6,800,000.00 Hart $2,500,000.00 Rivera $400,000.00 Gwynn $400,000.00 Braun $745,000.00 Kendall $4,600,000.00 Cameron $10,000,000.00 Nelson $400,000.00 McGehee $400,000.00 Lamb $400,000.00 *Counsell $400,000.00 Suppan $12,500,000.00 Bush $4,000,000.00 Riske $4,500,000.00 McClung $2,500,000.00 DeFelice $400,000.00 Dillard $400,000.00 Stetter $400,000.00 Coffey $800,000.00 Julio $950,000.00 Gallardo $404,000.00 Parra $400,000.00 Villaneuva $450,000.00 Total $69,749,000.00
  13. It hasn't been the same since Cameron lost the rights. I'd really like to see what Cameron would have done with the third movie.
  14. Melvin has stated that if they don't sign CC, that they probably won't be spending all of that money elsewhere (CC was a special case). So I expect a lower payroll this year. I figure we're at about $70 million now, with arby increases. I would guess a payroll in the $80 range, leaving $10 million to spend, barring a trade.
  15. Based on the title, was anyone else expecting a thread about something not fit for a family board?
  16. My parents had lived in Milwaukee before I was born, but moved to Montana where I was born. My dad taught me how to play baseball and that made it my favorite sport. But being in Montana in the 70's there really wasn't much baseball to watch. My family moved back to Milwaukee in August of 1982 (7 years old). I remember the excitement of the pennant, and I know it was my dad's love of baseball that got me hooked on the Brewers. After that, we went to many games every year, as members of the Brewers Pepsi fan club. Molitor was the president and was my favorite player. As an aside, my dad and I were both heavily influenced by my great grandfather. He followed the Brewers religiously and could tell you anything about the team right up to his death at age 103. In the early 20th century, he was offered a contract to be catcher for the Chicago White Socks, but he turned it down because he made more money with AO Smith.
  17. I've always wanted a device in my car, where I could vaporize the car of someone who does something stupid on the road. The driver would be transported to the side of the road to avoid any injuries.
  18. I thought the game was over when Hayward got called for the two charges. I certainly wasn't expecting MU to win, the way they've been playing. As good as McNeal was, I just hope the 4 threes don't go to his head and he starts thinking he's a three point shooter again. It drives me nuts when he takes those quick threes, early in the shot clock. Burke stepped up again for the Wisconsin game. I don't care if he doesn't score, if he can play defense without fouling like he did yesterday and grab a few rebounds, that will really help in the Big East.
  19. I love the food there, but you end up in the bathroom for the rest of the day, or "Steaking and Shaking" as we call it.
  20. You can still get as many breadsticks as you want, but you have to go to the counter to get them. They don't bring them to the table any more.
  21. My two favorites aren't around right now. The Burger King Mushroom and Swiss and the Black Angus Burger. I loved those two when they were around.
  22. I like Fazoli's, though I've gotten sick of it, since it's my son's favorite fast food place. Only had Taco John's once and thought it was disgusting. While not terrible, I'm not a fan of Culver's Butterburgers. My uncle accurately describes them as "cremated". I've got to agree that Burger King is going down hill. I won't be back after the last experience. It took 25 minutes to get our food and it wasn't that busy. The manager blamed it on a shift change, complained that she'd been there since 5:30 (it was 5 pm), and hid in the back not helping out at all. The idiot who took our order cleared out the system, didn't complete the orders and just went in the back to work the grill. The new shift was left to pick up the pieces. Everyone in the drive through got taken care of and people who came after us go taken care of. Three of us were left waiting. We complained, but no one had a clue. EDIT: I just remembered. A Solly's burger is the most disgusting pile of grease that I've ever tasted.
  23. Al Jardine and Mike Love had a lawsuit over who could use the Beach Boys name (they each had a band). I know it was settled, but I don't recall the details. At least one of those two is still with the band, maybe both after the settlement. But I agree, it's not the Beach Boys anymore.
  24. I was a huge fan of the original series and TNG. I never liked DS9, and I lost interest in Voyager and Enterprise. I've seen (and own) all of the movies. I'm glad Rick Berman is no longer in charge of Star Trek. I think he distorted Gene Rodenberry's vision. The new movie does look interesting. It will be a bit tough getting used to new people playing such familiar roles, especially Sylar as Spock. It will also be interesting to see how much they broke with the past, like Spock's mother being Vulcan instead of Human (Winona Rider). But I'm looking forward to it and hope it revives Star Trek.
  25. I was impressed with the way Hazel played for MU. He barely played last year, but he'll get plenty of chances this year. He shows some promise. And Burke has to play smarter. He can't be fouling out in 13 minutes. It's amazing how things have changed in 4 years. They go from a team with 7 guys 6-7 and taller, but no guard once Deiner went down. Now they've got guards to spare, but no big men. Talk about terrible recruiting balance.
