  1. Hard to imagine there’s anyone on the team with a more disappointing second half than Matt Bush.
  2. ...am I the only one who worries about giving a 5+ year extension to a pitcher who missed starts this season due to a lack of feeling in his pitching fingers? I've been following Brewers baseball long enough to have learned the phrase Vestibular Neuritis, and how it was unlikely to happen again to one player (before it happened the second time). Likewise, it's relatively common for a pitcher to go through a "dead arm" period when stretching out their workload in spring. I do not recall a player losing feeling in his pitching hand. Is the "injury" at all tied to his throwing motion, and should the team expect he's going to need to be shut down periodically over the rest of his career? Is it going to happen more often as he ages? I'm worried the medical opinions necessarily temper the business decisions on any future contract.
  3. As long as we're making fun of the rest of the division: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/no-justin-fields-didnt-slight-181851368.html (I understand the distinction the reporter is making, but it's not a great sign when you need sports reporters to give cover to your team's presumptive star player. Of course, it's also not a great sign when your starting quarterback has less than 50 net passing yards in a full 60-minute NFL game.)
  4. https://www.yahoo.com/news/does-green-bay-packers-practice-155950218.html Everything you've wanted to know about Practice Squad Rules in 2022, but had been afraid to ask. (Good J-S Online article, picked up by yahoo...so no paywall.)
  5. The irony of this topic to me is that the post-game show reaction by Tim Dillard (of all people) was surprisingly negative on pulling Woodruff from the game, and how Woody should have been allowed to pitch an additional inning because it was September and the game mattered more.
  6. Abernathy released in conjunction with the Ford signing; presumably, he's headed for the practice squad. Happy to see that most of the players I was disappointed in seeing cut have made their way to the practice squad. Didn't see them only keeping Jones and Dillon at RB...but I'm hoping that's a sign of confidence in Kylin Hill coming back in 4 weeks (or at least kicking the roster decision down the road, since the elevation rules will require the team to put one of the 3 of those guys onto the roster before too long). Surprised the Packers held on to all 11 picks; happy for Toure (who impressed me), and I wonder if keeping Ford as a 3rd NT means Kenny Clark will be given more opportunities to move around on the DL.
  7. Guessing it’s for the benefit of people like me, who bookmarked the forum & skip directly to it. (…not that I actually read the articles, mind you, but at least I know what it is I’m not reading.)
  8. Since I haven't tried this yet, my predictions for the initial 53-man roster: (Italics = bubble) QB (2): Rodgers, Love RB (3): Jones, Dillon, Taylor WR (6): Lazard, Watkins, Cobb, Doubs, Watson, Rodgers TE (4): Tonyan, Lewis, Deguara, Davis OL (10): Bakhtiari, Runyan Jr., Myers, Newman, Jenkins, Nijman, Tom, Hanson, Rhyan, Walker DL (6): Clark, Lowry, Reed, Slaton, Wyatt, Slayton OLB (4): Gary, Preston, Engabare, Garvin MLB (4): Campbell, Walker, Barnes, McDuffie CB (6): Alexander, Stokes, Douglas, Jean-Charles, Nixon, Ento S (5): Amos, Savage, Abernathy, Leavitt, Davis ST (3): O'Donnell, Coco, Ahmed (Crosby on PUP) Hardest cut for me: keeping a 4th TE over Toure....but LaFleur values the TE spot too much to only keep 3. Cutting both Toure and Winfree makes me relatively confident one of them would make it to the practice squad. Taylor gets the last RB spot primarily due to pass blocking, since his main value is as a 3rd down back.
  9. I can’t be the only Brewers fan to read “tear” and “book” in close proximity & immediately think Steve Sparks.
  10. Apologize if this was answered & I missed it, but Jeff Levering + Jeff Cirillo.
  11. Reading the screen and making the TFL was every bit as impressive as Abernathy’s interception. I want to see more from him.
  12. The ideal use for Urias may well be in a Bill Hall / super sub role, where he plays every day between 3b/2b/ss based on matchups. Before that could happen, though, the club would need to find a regular starter at 3b. Likewise, Urias' splits for this year make that difficult to accomplish....as he actually has a reverse split in 2022. While that makes him a decent platoon partner for Brosseau, it causes problems putting him anywhere else on the infield (but for Kolton Wong having even worse splits against lefties this year).

  14. 2 immediate reactions from looking at the chart, 1) Surprised Rowdy's WAR is as low as it is (after a full year), since I don't really think of him as being a replacement-level player. 2) I've never seen the Grienke deal put into those terms before....didn't realize it had turned out that poorly for the club in the long-run.
  15. Credit to the defense, that throw was near-perfect (frustrating as it was to see).
  16. After nearly a day of thinking about the trade, I still don't love it...but I'm starting to understand it more. Rogers (making sure not to insert a "d" in the middle of his name) is a downgrade from Hader - no question - but he's still an effective closer. Rogers' GB/FB ratio over his career is much more neutral, meaning he's less likely to give up homers when he does get hit...which has to be a consideration when talking about a pitcher is going from SD to Milwaukee. I also agree with the comments recently about yesterday's moves lengthening the quality of the bullpen as a whole; runs scored before the 9th inning also count...and can prevent the game from getting to our good relievers late. We know July was a rough patch for Hader, but it wasn't all that much better for Gott, Millner, Boxberger and the like. (Small samples all around....but also realizing Gustave has been much better lately than I gave him credit for.) Lamet is someone who can give the team multiple innings, which is important with Peralta's return. With Freddy, Ashby, and Houser all being guys with some pitch count limitations for the next month or two, having multiple bridges to the late relief in Lamet and Suter will mean less stress on the 'pen down the stretch run. Ruiz just needs to be better than Jonathan Davis to provide value to the team right now. Heck, if his base stealing is as good as advertised, he could be the pinch running option for the playoff run (think Quintin Berry), with long-term upside and multiple years of team control. ...plus, Gasser is the long-term lottery ticket.
  17. FWIW, ESPN lists Esteury Ruiz as a 2b (albeit the kind who’s only played in the outfield with the Padres this month) https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/gamelog/_/id/39680/esteury-ruiz
  18. Not shocked given how well Williams has been pitching as a set-up man & Hader's contract, but I need to hear from prospects people about the players we're bringing in, and what their ETA is to helping this team.
  19. I assume it's demand-based pricing, since that's what the Brewers do. Any idea how quickly the prices adjust for unsold seats?
  20. Great triple by Wong. Tie game! Not a huge fan of the broadcast team (too many “next gen stats” IMO), but I’m loving the video quality enough to have searched whether the broadcast is 4k (1080p as it turns out, but high frame rate).
