  1. Since someone else would have to ask if I didn't: Sammy or David on lead vocals?
  2. How do I not even remember Dana Carvey having a show? What / when was it on?I had to IMDB the show just to know that it actually existed; then I look at the writers for the show: Carvey Louis C.K. Steve Carell Stephen Colbert Dave Chappelle Robert Smigel (I'm leaving out other names I've heard of, just to narrow things down.) Why wasn't the Dana Carvey show a hit; were there enough people like me that didn't even know it was on TV?
  3. Wynn's 3-year (2005-07) splits show a difference of .014 against RHP (.798) over LHP (.784). His Slugging % in the same sample is identical (.448). To me, that's not a whole lot of difference....but it's also not tremendous production for a corner OF spot. And given his age, he's more likely to put up a sub-.800 OPS than he is to overachieve. He's not the player that I'd want, but is at least an option to replace Jenkins for 1-2 years. (This is an example of why I'd rather have just paid Jenkins the $9 mil. for next season, rather than try to acquire someone else for a short-term rental.) That said, I would assume that if the Brewers have to give up a prospect of any importance, the Giants will be eating a significant portion of that contract (a la the Koskie trade with Toronto). ZacJack for Winn ( + NTBNL, cash)?
  4. Didn't Bill get a contract extension from the team last off-season? I don't think he's going anywhere.
  5. Didn't Guitar Hero 3 just come out? Zumaya certainly has a knack for odd off-field injuries. He should never go to a salad bar with Matt Wise.
  6. I enjoyed the unexpected cameos in Imaginationland moreso than I did the "contract" and the actual plot. It seemed very much like they came up with the idea, and created a story just to allow themselves to go with it. Not a bad episode, but I just expect more of a payoff from a multi-part storyline.
  7. From the 1UP.com preview: Controls: There are four preset control schemes -- GameCube controller, Classic controller, Wii Remote, and Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Most Smash Bros. pro-hopefuls will probably gravitate towards the GameCube controller, especially if they're stuck in their Melee ways. The Classic controller offers nearly the same experience, with the right analog stick acting as the yellow c-stick on the GameCube controller and shielding mapped to the shoulder buttons, but obviously lacking the rumble (an important feature to some). Given the lack of buttons, the Wii Remote-only preset, which you play with the remote held horizontally, uses Up on the D-pad for jump and the 1 and 2 buttons for attacks. While the Up for jump setting is a slight nuisance, the shield button, which you have to hit with your middle finger behind the remote as it's mapped to the B trigger, is probably the most awkward part about the remote-only control scheme. But, regardless of which controller you have access to, Brawl will have a fully customizable control scheme, allowing you to map actions to any button you want on any controller, which you then can save to your profile. Conceivably, this could narrow the gap between the different controller setups. I shouldn't have said it doesn't use the wii-remote; I should have said that I won't be using the Wii remote.
  8. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn ships next week. The Fire Emblem series (this is the 10th in total, but the 4th game to be released in the U.S.) are the origins of the strategy-RPG genre. Turn-based, with simple game mechanics, and engaging stories that connect you to the characters (death in the game is permanent....unless you re-start the level). I'm even playing the GameCube game this week to catch up with the story (plus, you can transfer game data from FE9, as FE10 takes place 3 years later w/ many of the same characters). It's funny: as a gamer, the two titles on the Wii that I'm most looking forward to are the ones that don't use the motion-sensing aspects of the controller (FE & Smash Bros Brawl).
  9. IIRC, the show open actually referred to the story as a trilogy; the promo, however, said that it would conclude next week. This weeks' show was all over the map in terms of content. I did like the 'imagination' v. 'special effects' discussion with Michael Bay. (Did anyone else notice that the truck Cartman got in at the end looked awfully similar to a certain Transformer that we had seen in imagination land?) And they brought back the Mel Gibson character. I also have my doubts that the contract / bet storyline is actually going to pay off....nor do I really want it to. Not one of my favorite episodes, but it's probably not fair to evaluate it before seeing the balance of the story.
  10. AFAIK, there are actually two SKU's from Nintendo. Both include the following:Nintendo Wii base unit 'console stand' RCA (Composite) adapter 1 Wii-mote (game controller) w/ wrist strap 1 'nunchuck' attachment Sensor bar (with stand) power adapter WiiSports (game) The only real difference between the 2 SKU's is that the second one also includes a Wiimote "glove" (some sort of jacket, presumably intended to stop the controller from sliding out of the user's hands). It's not even that much of a difference, really: you can order up to 4 (free) wiimote gloves from Nintendo's website. (The second SKU is only a month or two old.) Any other bundling of hardware, software, or miscellaneous accessories is taking place at the retail level. (Most of the forced bundles at launch cost around twice the price of the actual system.) There was no bundle when my older brother purchased his Wii at Target last December.
  11. There's really only one SKU for the Nintendo Wii; they're all the 'basic model.' As to finding one, my recommendation would be to try and find one in the next month. (Once the holiday shopping season starts in earnest, people will be lining up outside Best Buy - just like last year.) Your best bet for finding one in the interim is getting in touch with the people in the gaming department of your local Wal Mart, Target, Gamestop, etc. Find out when they're getting their new shipments of the console in. (If you talk to the right employee - preferrably a supervisor - you might get an answer.) If the product doesn't stay on the shelves, your best bet is getting to them as they go onto the shelves. Certain gaming / shopping websites (e.g. Cheap{synonym for posterior}Gamer, slick deals, fat wallet) used to post the weekly ads for companies like Target, Best Buy and Circuit City in the week(s) before the sales started. If the Wii shows up in the ad, generally the stores would hold their weekly shipments for that Sunday morning. Unfortunately, the retailers have cracked down on that sort of information in recent months. (Both the PS3 price drop and the XBox 360 price drop were discovered because they showed up in ad circulars printed beforehand.) Good luck!
  12. J.J. Abrams (without the glasses)?
  13. How about we look at the pitching, and not focus exclusively on defense. The Rockies Bullpen has 5 pitchers who have notched 20+ -save seasons over their careers (Brian Fuentes, LaTroy Hawkins, Matt Herges, Byung-Hyun Kim, and Jorge Julio...the last 2 of which didn't even make the post-season roster). That doesn't even include their current closer: Manny Corpas only finished with 19 saves. When virtually everyone of your go-to guys in the bullpen has closer-type stuff (and experience)...the late innings get a lot easier.
  14. As long as they limit the things they insist on to things that were already probable, it really doesn't bother me. (It would be like Mark A. "insisting" that Gallardo or Villanueva be part of next year's rotation. It's already going to happen; he's just making it sound like he's part of the decision.)
  15. To get the PS3 Madden rosters, you just have to sign up to play an online game. You don't actually have to play the game -- you get to do the roster update before reaching the team selection screen. (When I tried to start a game for the very same purpose, the other user was the one to back out.) If you just want someone to open a game against in order to start roster downloads, message my PSN account (MilwaukeeBrewers), and I might be able to act as your formidable non-opponent if the timing works out.
  16. http://www.politicalbase.com/money/search/ I saw this site on Digg, and thought it deserved mention to spread the word. The site pulls data from the Federal Elections Commission, and keeps a searchable database on political contributions over $200.00 (or less, when dealing with the '08 Presidential campaign). You can either search an individual's name, or by an organization. (I spent awhile last night looking up pro sports teams, for instance....and my boss.) One blogger on the site went through the cast of SNL....which is actually the story I dugg. I'm the first to admit that any discussion could devolve into something lock-worthy if people start arguing about the candidates or the donors. (e.g. "I always knew there was a reason why I hated Peyton Manning.") Don't be that guy (or girl). If you find a result that's interesting or surprising, or just think the search is as cool as I think it is, post away.
  17. Much like the 300 parody last season, I felt like I would have enjoyed this episode quite a bit more if I had seen the "King of Kong" documentary.
  18. I think JohnBriggs12 brings up a good point here: part of what I would consider being a 'professional hitter' is not leaving runs out there on the field. For instance, leaving a runner stranded @ 3b with 0-1 outs (particularly by striking out) = non-professional hitting. I tend to think of professional hitting as situation-driven, about having a plan for every plate appearance, and sticking to that plan (and having the right plan, to the extent that there is a 'right' way to approach any situation in baseball). It's a guy who subscribes to playing A-B-C baseball, whether that means getting on-base, getting runners into scoring position, or getting those runners in. In other words, it's about being non-3TO. It doesn't mean being a non-productive hitter (someone else mentioned Carlos Lee; Tony Gwynn Sr. was the walking embodiment of a professional hitter, IMO), and it does involve a level of selectivity at the plate -- but not selectivity for its own sake. Some times the best pitch you see in an AB is the first one.
  19. Odds that Tony LaRussa ends up in pinstripes next year?
  20. "I think they could both do better." It's awfully ironic that the very same show that took off due in no small part to iTunes (and the iPod / Christmas Party episode) devotes an hour-long episode to the evils of technology....right after NBC leaves the iTunes Store. (And, for the record: Pam. Karen can't smile like that.)
  21. I believe that episode may have been the only time that I have ever heard one particular ethnic slur used on TV; I had always considered that word to be the Jewish equivalent to the N-word. (Ironically / coincedentally enough, "N-word guy" was on just before the new show last night.) It will be interesting to see whether the show / network gets criticized...and if they do...how soon they spin that criticism into a new episode.
  22. I didn't even know the show was going to be on tonight. Cartman "gets" Tourettes. I daresay there won't be many quotes that can pass the BF.net cuss-filter from this one.
  23. As someone who downloaded "Lazy Sunday" from iTunes when NBC put it up for free, then paid for the " in a Box" episode, Samberg's digital shorts are one of the best things SNL has going for it right now. Also, credit for whoever did Fred Armisen's makeup, as it really helps sell the impersonation.
  24. I brought this up, back in reply #1081: And, for the record, I think that 24-10 is a bit of a misnomer. Look back on who they played during that first 34 games: Dodgers - 3 games (2-1); .506 win rate (2007 season) Cubs - 6 games (3-3); .525 Marlins - 3 games (2-1); .430 Cardinals - 5 games (4-1); .468 Reds - 2 games (1-1); .449 Pirates - 6 games (5-1); .430 Astros - 6 games (4-2); .443 Nationals - 3 games (3-0); .453 Maybe if the Brewers could keep playing sub-500 teams all year....they could have kept up that pace. They were only 5-4 against winning teams. The first month isn't representative of the rest of the season, which is why I think it's unfair to have re-adjusted expectations based on that record. I look at where they are now, and it's not that far off from the overall performance that I expected back in March. When half of the NL finishes with records at or above .500, a stretch in which a team plays only 9 games out of 34 against winning teams is an abberation. It's no coincidence that your sample cuts off just before series against the Mets, Phillies, Twins, Dodgers, Padres, and Braves after all. After that stretch (with the Twins being the only sub-.500 opponent), they were 29-24. 162 games is just another small sample. (Note: since not all Yuku members see the same number of posts per page, I changed "on p. 55" to "in reply #1081" --1992)
  25. What about Darrell trying to feed peanuts to a squirrel in the middle of Michael's rabies education speech?
