  1. [Disclaimer: Me lawyer. Me not you lawyer. I'm just a caveman, and your technology frightens and confuses me. Etc.] Go into rickey24's first post, and replace the word 'game' with 'song.' ...see the problem yet? Is trading taped baseball games illegal? - Yes, probably. Will MLB go after people who do it? - Only if you make it easy enough for them (by posting on a public website, for instance). Doesn't MLB sell individual game downloads (through MLB.tv, or something similar)? To me, that's the larger problem than whether the participants would be making money. (Who made money on the original Napster?)
  2. I believe that was Ken Caminiti for the astros Just to be hyper-technical, while Caminiti did play for the Astros for most of his career, he won the NL MVP in 1996 as a member of the San Diego Padres. He admitted to using steroids (IIRC, in a Sports Illustrated interview) shortly before passing away in 2004.
  3. I own a cell-phone, but not a data plan. I don't get why people pay so much money on a monthly basis for (relatively) slow transfer rates. About the one thing I can say that I really like about the iPhone is it supports Wi-Fi. I'll stick to my 30GB video iPod (and lousy cell phone) as separate devices. That way, I don't have to worry about what watching the next video podcast will kill off my cell phone's battery.
  4. This reminds me: Brewerfan needs more lolcats! (But only if you photoshop Brewers hats onto them.)
  5. Just to talk about something other than the Bucks....anyone hear any rumors / predictions about where Alando Tucker is going to wind up? (I'm guessing one of the Texas teams, around the bottom of the first round.)
  6. In all due fairness to Gerry, Bonds was never projected to break Hank Aaron's record around the time of the Brewers series in 2006. Of course, what makes this laughable, is that the Brewers played the Giants in May (2 games) and September (4) in 2006 -- periods where attendance is traditionally low. Source: Baseball-reference.com Maybe he just doesn't understand that baseball attendance tends to go up during the summer-time?
  7. You got the 'Red Ring of Death' after only 2 days? (Or is it an entirely different problem.) Out of curiosity, what version of the 360 (Core, Premium, Elite) is it? (At $400, I'm guessing it's the Premium edition.) On the plus side, most of the reports I've seen suggest that Microsoft is putting additional heatsinks into repaired units. That being said, the failure rate on the XBox 360 appears to be quite high (and magnified by the fact that Microsoft won't comment on failure rates). IIRC, I saw on digg a few weeks ago that someone has started a class-action suit against MS over the design of the 360....your brother might want to look into that. (Rather than throw verbal jabs....I'll just say that I'm happy with my PS3, and will be even more happy once FF13 finally ships sometime next year.)
  8. (Disclaimer: not a Bucks fan...and more of a NCAA fan than an NBA guy.) The only way I would think about making that trade is if/when Conley Jr. is off the table. He's a great penetrator / distributor at the point, and a tremendous off-ball defender (getting into the pass lane and anticipating steals....which usually turn into points at the other end).
  9. and part with after Vadar tells Luke he's his father. My biggest complaint was that it wasn't a full 30 minutes of new material. That bit, and the George W. Bush sketch had already been aired on earlier "Robot Chicken" episodes. Of the new stuff, the 'reactor' sketch in the detention block was probably my favorite. It always amazes me the number of headline celebs that Seth Green can rope into doing vocal work on the show.
  10. I like that lineup; I think Ned is content with a low-impact role for Weeks for the next few months (or as long as his scar tissue will allow). At the same time, batting 8th, he's either going to draw more than his share of free passes or knock in some runs if the opposing manager challenges him. Also, as much as I like Lowry....is there anything more exciting than Bill Hall facing a lefty while finally starting to go on a tear? These are the kind of games that makes it fun to be a Brewers fan. I'm looking for Yo to go ~ 6 IP, 4 runs, 5 K's. I'll be impressed if he doesn't give up a HR to Bonds (not the guy you want to face in your ML debut). My guess is that neither starter factors into the decision.
  11. ...my desire to read this thread is adversely impacted by my DVD habits -- I'm about half-way through Season 2 right now. I knew next to nothing about the show when I Netflix'd the first season; I had only seen one episode (Vince's birthday party from S3 was on during the last HBO preview weekend), and had heard fairly positive buzz. The show is well-written, well-cast (from Jeremy Piven all the way down to 'Aqua girl' -- who I didn't even know would be in the series, much to my approval), and just funny. Now that I've said my peace, I can leave this topic by the wayside....since I'm not about to request Spoiler Warnings for something that's months old already.
  12. 10-9 would still be acceptable in my eyes....but the Cubs Series is the one that I really want to win. I'm sticking to the belief that - if the Brewers just play around .500 ball the rest of the way - no one else in the division is going to jump up and win 85+ games. All I want is for the Brewers to keep winning more than they're losing...then let the Cards fall where they may. (...and the Cubs, and the Pirates, and the Reds. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif )
  13. IIRC, he also lost his certification as an NFL agent due to a series of questionable business transactions. Retirement has not gone well for this guy.
  14. in this division, I think the .500 is less of a touchstone than normal! That's the part I don't understand. Do you think that no teams will finish with a winning record? If the Brewers (36-30) just win half of their remaining games, they would be on pace for 84 wins. For the Cubs (30-35) to overtake Milwaukee, they'd have to play the remainder of the season at nearly a 57% clip (55-42). I don't see the Brewers playing sub-.500 baseball over the remainder of the season. I also don't see anyone else in the division winning 85+ games. Trades and injuries could drastically re-shape the race....but I just can't bring myself to hit the panic button every time a team wins 2-3 more games than expected over a fortnight.
  15. Said before, will say again. Let another team in the division at least get to .500 before you start to panic.
  16. Per Rotoworld: "The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that the Padres will likely sign Brady Clark if the Dodgers are unable to trade him before he becomes a free agent. Clark was designated for assignment by the Dodgers last week. The Mets and Rockies reportedly also have interest in Clark, but the former University of San Diego star might jump at the opportunity to return to his former hometown."
  17. Just to put out a suggestion: If there's a commonly-used thread, which will cause the locking of subsequently-started threads (like the lineup thread, venting thread, etc.)....would it make sense to pin the common threads to the top of the discussion board? I see today that a "Where to bat Bill Hall" thread was locked, and referred to the lineup thread....but that thread isn't even on the first page anymore. Alternatively, it might at least make sense to pin a single post that links to: the venting thread, the silver lining thread, the lineup thread, Yost's Last Stand, etc. That would still make it easy to find the thread the user should be posting in....without cluttering up the top of the 'Major League' forum.
  18. That said, I wouldn't want to try an aloe vera brat. Agreed...why would I want a brat that tastes like sun-burn? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. I'm a believer that graduation day isn't nearly as important as the days (and nights) of hard work that lead up to it. That extra night you spent studying for the tough exam, or writing that research paper, those are what really will have put that piece of parchment in your hand tomorrow. Your graduation is a recognition of all those lesser days along the way. Enjoy it, by all means, but celebrate the four years....not the one day. ...and that's coming from someone who spoke at his HS graduation. (Cliche-free, I might add! ...or at least I hope it was.)
  20. HAVE THE BREWERS EVER BEEN NO HIT BEFORE? IF SO VS WHO? IIRC, Nolan Ryan no-hit the Brewers (while with the Rangers). Now I'll go look it up.... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. How has no one mentioned Suppan's quality start in his last appearance against the Tigers? (I'll just assume that I missed it somewhere....it'll save me the time of having to edit in an apology / correction.)
  22. Just out of sheer curiosity, are slot values available online? I'd be curious to see slot values listed alongside actual contract details when the 'signings thread' starts up.
  23. Not entering (since I'm not close enough to take advantage), but taking another chance to thank Pedro for the giveaway.
  24. In the past month (6 starts), Capuano is 0-5 with an ERA over 6. Has any player been worse than our Ace?
  25. As long as he can make the transition to LF, I'm fine with the pick. I'd rather have the college hitter we all expect to make the major league club in a few years over the HS RHP that gets hurt years before coming here. (Of course, outside of the first round, I stop caring about HS v. College all together.) I can't wait to hear Jack Z. and the front office talking about why they liked him.
