  1. My $.02 If the Brewers really have the money to drop 10-11 million into Suppan, then get him. He would be the # 3 starter behind Sheets and Cappy, and turns Vargas into the # 5 starter (that he probably should be at this point in his career). Heck, the prospect of never having to play against him should be worth at least 2 wins. Scary thought: adding a moderately-good SP next season could cost even more next year than it does this year. (Remember all the pitchers who signed for $ 7 mil a year last off-season?) I don't see baseball revenue going down any time soon, so these numbers aren't likely to come down.
  2. Devil's Advocate: road splits tend to be skewed for all players in Coors Field, because the breaking ball is said to have more movement at the lower altitude. The affect isn't as dramatic when visiting teams stop in for 3-4 days and then hit the road, but is more substantial when the home team spends 7-10+ days at altitude, and then have to adjust to playing on the road. For that reason, I don't think it's fair to look at any Rockies hitter, and presume that he will perform down to the level of his road splits. It's a bit of an odd deal, in as much as we don't have a particularly good roster fit for Barnes at this point. Then again, the same could be said for Clark (if Hall is the everyday CF, with Gross backing him up, and Hart able to play center in a pinch).
  3. Someone also said you need to purchase some chords with the system in order to play, is that correct? To get the best picture quality from your Wii, and assuming that your TV supports them, you need to buy component video cables. This will allow you to play in 480p and 16x9 widescreen. Even if you have a standard definition TV, the component cables will provide improved picture quality, if your TV accepts component input. Nintendo's website is the easiest place to order the cables. Sidenote: why is it the one Sunday I'm able to get up two hours before the store opens is the same Sunday that there was no shipment of Wii's. I already have Zelda, and have the component cables on order. Woe is Mii.
  4. Hooray for drafting high school pitching in the first round! For the record, as much as I harp on what I feel to be bad a bad investment (the injury rates make the ROI for high school pitchers low with a first round pick and the guaranteed upfront money), once the pick was made...he's our guy and I'm rooting for him to recover.
  5. I finally caved in and bought Zelda today. Now all I need is a console to play it on. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  6. I think the trade today pretty much puts the kibosh on Zaun coming to Milwaukee.
  7. ...and there's nothing worse than being the first person in line not to get a Wii. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  8. The lecherous Creed is turning into a terrific character. Agreed. The best thing about the character, though, is that they use him so very sparingly. When they do sneak in a line or two, it's usually good. (I can't help but point out that, by comparison, the Andy / Dwight thing is going to get unbearable if they keep making him into Dwight2.0.) Did anyone else feel as though the plot and setup of this episode was really similar to one of the British episodes?
  9. Just out of curiosity (and because I don't intend to let the Wii Fanboyism die), who has pre-ordered the Wii? I haven't, and am starting to get a bit concerned about finding one at launch. I had picked up my GameCube within a week or two of its launch, so I hadn't really expected to have trouble finding one....but it seems like demand is going to be much stronger for the Wii.
  10. Considering you can pretty much get a Wii and XBox 360 for the same price as the PS3, I don't see why anyone wouldn't go that route. Short Answer: Final Fantasy XIII. Slightly Longer Answer: As long as the XBox 360 continues to wither on the vine over in Japan, Japanese game developers will continue to release their material where it will generate the most revenue. There are a lot of odd, quirky games that come out of the Japanese Market (Katamari Damacy comes to mind almost immediately, and I'll even admit to having played my share of Pokemon games). These kinds of games would never warrant the expense of a multi-platform release, and therefore are going to be PS3 exclusive. Factor in Sony's first and second party developers (The people who developed Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, etc.) are also staying put on the PS3. Ultimately, though, a lot of my leanings are weighted on Square-Enix and Final Fantasy XIII; I've been playing the series ever since the first one launched on the NES. I've played every game in the series, but for 3, 11 (MMORPG), and 12 (which just came out). Based on that game alone, it's a foregone conclusion that I'll be picking up a PS3 at some point. It then becomes a matter of whether I can justify buying a 360 now and waiting for a PS3 price drop in a few years (when FF13 actually comes out). Gears of War And what about Viva Pinata! As someone who's "been there, done that" with respect to the FPS, I'd probably spend more time with VP than GoW. (I think I've put in less than 1 hour with the Half-Life, single- or multi-player.) I can take the occasional FPS (I bought 3 of them over the life of my GameCube - 1 if you don't count the Metroid Prime games), but seemingly half of the Xbox 360 titles out there are WWII shooters or other variations on the FPS. Honestly, the one 360 Exclusive title that I'd probably buy if I had the console is Dead Rising, because that game really does hit on innovation. (Never before have I seen someone use a table umbrella as a means of fending off Zombies, for instance.) Back to Wii-fanboyism! What games are people interested in @ launch? My list: - Zelda: Twilight Princess - Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (to see how it stacks up against the SSX franchise) - Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (which I'd rather play with traditional controls...part of the PS3/360 dilemma) - Madden
  11. If I don't get the Wii this wiik, I will be shortly therafter. I can't wait to get my hands on a new Zelda game! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif (That said, I'm still struggling with the PS3 / 360 purchase. There are plenty of next-gen games that I'd like to play....but they're seemingly all multi-platform. As much as I'd like to get a console that shows off my HDTV, I think I'm going to hold out and see how the 3rd party companies align themselves. Plus, I think the XBox 360 is eventually going to ship a larger Hard Drive....such that it's not worth it to put down $100 for one right now.)
  12. If pollsters were asking you who you are voting for that is very innappropriate. So, pollsters can't ... you know ... take a poll? I didn't get any phone calls (no land line), but I did somehow make my way onto the NRA e-mail list.
  13. And, for the second year in a row... ...a starting pitcher the Yankess cast away has come up huge in the World Series.
  14. Away from New York, will A-Rod actually stay at third? If I were picking up his contract, I'd at least want to try him at his original position first.
  15. I also very much enjoyed how Ryan and Kevin started describing movies when they talked about losses in their lives. "I could go into detail, but it would take about an hour and a half." Actually, that started with Pam describing "Million Dollar Baby."
  16. The Tigers' second inning was the perfect example of the type of execution that the Brewers haven't been able to match. Leadoff double. Pudge looks to hit behind the runner, knowing that it will result either in a base hit, or moving the runner to 3rd. Sac Fly scores the run. They didn't play for one run, but at the same time, they put themselves in a position to create productive outs and advance the leadoff baserunner. It's neither small ball or moneyball, just good baseball. Whoever the next Brewers hitting coach is, I hope he can do a better job instilling that kind of mindset with the hitters. (And yes, a big part of executing in those situations requires the hitter not to strike out.)
  17. valpo I could be wrong, but I felt that the backup plots feeling out-of-sync was intentional. With one essential cog in the machine missing, the system starts spinning out of control. Jim keeps Dwight in check, who in turn keeps Michael distracted. (It's an oversimplification, but you get the general idea.) Likewise, Jim's antics keep the mood in the office generally affable. The tension and discord among the cast will turn in a month or two when Jim comes back. (...no intentional spoilers here....but you have to know it's coming...)
  18. That'll lower his (Davis') ERA. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif
  19. Sean Paul. I'll see your Sean Paul and raise you a Nickleback. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. The Rockies ERA is actually higher on the road than it is at Coors Field. (If ever there was a sign that the team is seemingly over-correcting for the thin air, this would be it.)
  21. I <3 Prince Fielder! (In a platonic, man-crush sort of way)
  22. Jenkins with a perfect OBP Tomo with 4 RBIs. Fielder & Graffy with 0-fer's. I didn't know the Brewers had scheduled a home game in Bizarro World.
  23. ...apparently, CI. (And a double for Gross! 4-0 Brewers!)
  24. bf82- While I understand and respect that you don't like it when people complain about the FSN contract....the bottom line is that the Brewers play 162 games a year, and only 125 of them are broadcast. If the FSN contract covered all the games (or even just all the night / weekend games), 90% of the complaints would go away. So long as the Brewers are playing....and Brewers fans can't turn on their TV's and watch (for reasons other than NFL-esque attendance blackouts), people have a right to complain, IMO. As for the game itself, here's to hoping for double-digit strikeouts out of # 15 tonight.
  25. MLB.com and virtually every major "commercial" sports site already has this information (ESPN, SI, CBS, etc.); bookmark one of those pages if you want the reference. IMO, MLB / WC standings would just be a waste of the site's bandwidth.
