  1. A final answer from the organization regarding tonight's game and FSN: Hi Benjamin- Unfortunately, tonight?s game is available only in Milwaukee. For the games that are on WMLW locally here in Milwaukee, they will be seen statewide on FSN Wisconsin, if FSN doesn?t have a previous commitment to that time slot. Tonight?s game conflicts with a Bucks game that that FSN is under contract to show, so our game can only be seen in Milwaukee. The great majority of the 15 games that are on WMLW will be seen statewide, but unfortunately tonight is not one of them. Thanks for your support of the Milwaukee Brewers! Drew Olsen Manager - Entertainment & Broadcasting Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club I used the 'contact us' portion of the team's website, and got an answer back in surprisingly short-order. Did anyone else not know he was working for the organization now?
  2. Mench in RF?? Hart made the last out. With the pitcher's spot due up in the 9th (if necessary - knock on wood), it's more of a double switch than a defensive substitution.
  3. Erin Andrews Jr. sucks. Pay attention. I've seen Erin Andrews... She's no Erin Andrews.
  4. Beautiful situational hitting after that double. Mench hits the ball to the right side, allowing the runner to advance to 3rd, then the single by Hart brings him in. It's not about making productive outs....so much as avoiding non-productive ones.
  5. Rickie, king of HBPs. Biggio has 282 HBP's career. Weeks still has a bit of catching up to do. [Edit: Biggio is actually 2nd-all time in HBP, 5 behind Hughie Jennings.]
  6. Looking at ESPN, Wolf is 3-1 against the Brewers from 2002-2006. (I'd give you an ERA, but I don't feel like doing the math. His 3-year split ERA was just over 4). The team has managed to rough him up once or twice, but usually he's been pretty good. Should be a fun one to watch tonight.
  7. 6-run lead (hopefully more) going into the 9th. Turnbow, or not Turnbow? (Too early in the year for Sheets to extend the pitch count, IMO.) Edit: Looks like it's going to be Sheets to start the inning. Can't complain too much.
  8. Bill Hall is on pace for 162 Home Runs!
  9. It's Opening Day, and all is right with the world. Go Brewers!
  10. Between Ned Yost's friends & Brian Anderson's friends, the team can hold its own "Brew Collar Comedy Tour!"
  11. Nearly another error for Braun (bobble, but gets the called out).
  12. Another day... ...another error ...another Homer.
  13. Anyone else having a hard time getting used to that photo of Piazza in an A's Uniform?
  14. I'd say it will depend on Braun. If they decide that Braun needs to be in AAA, then Rottino has a very good chance of making the club. I really don't see Braun as a factor in the Rottino decision. Candidates for the Brewers' Bench (in order of likelihood to make the 25-man, IMO) Graffanino Counsell Miller Clark Mench (or Jenkins against LHP) Rottino Gross (still has an option, IIRC) Nix Either Braun starts, or Graffanino moves off the bench until / unless Koskie is healthy, and Braun is in the minors. Koskie / Braun could take up an extra roster spot, but Vinny has a decent shot to make the squad as a 3rd infielder. IMO, it comes down to: - whether the Brewers carry 12 pitchers (rather than 11), - whether the Brewers are forced to carry extra outfielder(s), and - whether someone comes out of nowhere to take the final spot on the 25-man roster.
  15. Ryan Braun 8 Oakland 7 (Save some for the rest of the month!)
  16. School! In particular Math class. I cannot see a practical purpose for ANY of the stuff I'm doing right now. Does anyone here use Venn Diagrams or Subsets on a daily basis? Or ever? I can assure you that I will never use them! As a reformed math geek, it's not that you'll use subsets or Venn Diagrams terribly often outside the classroom. That's also not the point. Part of the value of math class is to instill a logical thought progression; unlike most of the other subjects, there's very little room for the subjective in mathematics. Because there are so few abstract concepts, there isn't any room for extraneous argument. Math-as-logic culminates with Geometry. You may never need to prove side-angle-side congruence outside of an exam, but the process which drives that proof is what stays with you. (Hopefully.) It's not about getting the right answer, so much as how you get to the right answer. Unfortunately, most math instructors I've had don't take the time / effort to explain that to their students.

  19. Good luck with the Selig-Prieb-ectomy! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif The Brewerfan.net community eagerly awaits your next cryptically-titled discussion topic.
  20. Nintendo of America seems to be far more restrained with releasing the "good" Virtual Console games than their Japanese counterpart, based on the lists I've seen. I don't even have any VC purchases yet. Re: Zelda. I wouldn't say that I'm burned out, but I haven't had much time to play Wii this month. (Basically, I haven't touched the thing since turning Pro in Bowling.) If I'm watching TV, my DS is far more accommodating (Animal Crossing: WW & Elite Beat Agents are both great games) The few times that I have found the time to game on the TV for an hour or two, Final Fantasy XII is winning out over Zelda. (Remember that the Final Fantasy series is the reason why I'm still leaning towards a PS3 over XBox 360.)
  21. Am I the only one who's liking the show less because of Andy (Ed Helms)? I get where they're trying to go with the character: someone so abjectly insane that he makes Dwight sympathetic. His bits are all forced, and not funny. (Reminds me of why I stopped watching The Daily Show. Well...the part of the reason that I can bring up on this board anyway.) Dwight Shrute walks the tightrope of believability - I don't think there are people like him, but he's symbolic of the eccentric guy in the office. What does that make Andy?
  22. I knew I was forgetting someone with that quick list; of course, it would be a good closer like Street. (I'd have had to remember that Cordero was a college closer in order to have forgotten him from my list.) Even then, I'd point out that Huston Street didn't pitch in the majors in 2004 (the year he was drafted). Cordero did pitch in the majors in 2003, pitching 11 innings and tallying one save in 12 games. From a ROI perspective, I could still make a case for a college closer over a HS arm in the first round, since they're almost certain to reach the major-league level, but I'm still a bit wary.
  23. Has drafting a college closer really worked? Craig Hansen (Bos): '05 - 6.0 ERA (3 IP); '06 - 6.63 ERA (38 IP). Ryan Wagner (Cin): '03 - 1.66 ERA (21.2 IP); '04 - 4.7 ERA (51.2 IP); '05 - 6.11 ERA (45.2 IP); '06 (Was) - 4.7 ERA (30.2 IP) I'm sure that there are other guys to this comparison, but those were the two that came to mind immediately. It was Wagner's 2003 season that popularized the idea of using early draft picks on college closers. Unfortunately for Mr. Wagner, he hasn't been able to come close to that level of success ever since. A year or two ago, I would have been in favor of drafting a college closer for the reasons that have been laid out. With hindsight being 20/20, I'd have a hard time recommending such a move.
  24. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif Finally have a Wii. Tried out Wii Sports for awhile before the Packer game, and I'll finally get to play my copy of Zelda later this afternoon.
  25. I think a number of people are being a bit harsh on a 24-year old. Tavarez isn't a great player, but there are some real positives from comparing his 2005 and 2006 numbers. His P/PA went up significantly, from 3.52 to 3.91. His walk rate, BB:SO, and Isolated Power numbers all increased, and his OBP went up even though his BA went down. It at least suggests that he's receptive to coaching. (Either that, or he just happened to improve in all the areas you'd look for improvement in a leadoff hitter.) Not my favorite player...but a player who could have a breakout season, and is probably a better long-term option than Dave Roberts would have been. If the Rockies really were sniffing around Brady Clark, Taveras would make a good starting point.
