  1. Excite Sports story MILWAUKEE (AP) - Infielder Trent Durrington agreed Monday to a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers and was invited to spring training. Durrington, 29, appeared in 53 games for Milwaukee last season and hit .232 with two home runs and four RBIs. He also played in 51 games at Triple-A Indianapolis, where he hit .222 with a home run and nine RBIs. Milwaukee also sent outfielder Chris Magruder outright to Triple-A and invited him to major league spring training. Magruder was designated for assignment on Nov. 29 to make room for catcher Damian Miller. Glad to see Magruder wasn't claimed.
  2. This is more of an annoyance than anything else, but one I'm feeling the need to post about. It seems as though every time I go away from the forum for awhile, and re-load the page....all of the posts since November 1st flag as unread. Is this happening to anyone else? (It doesn't happen on the political forum....so I doubt it's just my login or just an EZboard thing.)
  3. Royals- Last year was the final year of that policy; the draft order is now a reverse order of team record, regardless of league. Baseball America: 2004 Draft Mechanics This year's draft will also be the last time the leagues will alternate selections. Beginning in 2005, teams will draft in reverse order of winning percentage, regardless of league.
  4. I'm willing to guess that it actually wasn't posturing on Detroit's part. Of course, I don't know what the numbers are, or were prior to the "end" of negotiaitons, but for something to happen relatively quickly after that statement suggests to me that someone other than the agent broke through to Verlander himself. I doubt he wanted to be the next Matt Harrington himself.....and he should now be set for the rest of his life. Good for him.
  5. I think Upton would be a no-brainer (assuming no critical injury)....but that's why I doubt he'll make it to # 5. Sticking with my 'best college pitcher available' draft philosophy, I'll have to keep an eye on Luke Hochevar & Tennessee. But that shouldn't really surprise anyone, since his draft profile goes so far as to mention Kyle Sleeth. (I think Colby threw in the 'fellow Colorado prep pitching star' line just so I would have someone to root for next season. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ) Of course, there's also part of me that thinks Stephen Drew will be the best player available at # 5 next year....at some point, the D-Backs will start looking at keeping Richie Sexson and/or making FA moves trying to compete next year (since they didn't move Randy Johnson), and they don't have the bottomless pockets they seemed to a few years ago.
  6. I'm surprised to see that out of all the eligible Rice pitchers, the Brewers have the best one that's actually signed. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif The problem as I see it is the tremendous conflict of interest for the agents. A good amateur player goes through the draft process maybe three times, and only if they don't sign in their first two opportunities (HS Senior, College Junior & Senior). A player only gets one shot at the proverbial apple; they want as much as they can get, but the dollar maximums is fairly entrenched by the trends and history of the draft. A player's agent, on the other hand, can actually raise the raise the bar for future deals based on how they handle current ones; a more aggressive strategy pays off for the agent in the long run. Serve your client....or serve yourself.
  7. Just because it's something that can be researched.... Jenkins' 2004 Splits None on: 18 HR (will be 19 after today's game). Runner on 1b: 2 HR on 2b: 1 HR on 3b: 0 HR 1b & 2b: 2 HR 1b & 3b: 1 HR 2b & 3b: 0 HR Bases Loaded: 0 HR Brewers record in 2004 when Jenkins homers: 11-14 Jenkins HRs in games won / lost by 3 or fewer runs: 16 ...by 2 or fewer runs: 12 ...in 1 run games: 7 ----------- Season line: .265 BA / .326 OBP / .466 Slg. / .792 OPS Runners on: .270 / .342 / .418 / .760 RISP: .239 / .333 / .405 / .738 Draw your own conclusions.
  8. D-Squared? I've taken to calling Davis "Double D" myself. It invites so many more one liners. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. ....how is it that no one has made a crack about Pittsburgh's lack of a roof over their stadium yet?
  10. Nice to see the Brewers perform well
  11. I had heard on Bill Michaels' show that Krynzel won't be available until tomorrow night. Don't expect anything more than a possible PH spot tonight (if he actually manages to get there early).
  12. I think ben is just nerves because look at his numbers... His ERA is up to 9.47. By now, his nerves are getting on mine. The "Steve Woodard" comparison is looking more and more appropriate, IMO. He can be effective when he has good control of his pitches....but when he doesn't, he gets hammered.
  13. Ugh.....I hate seeing one of my favorite players (Nomar) in a Cubs Uniform. I just hope he doesn't end up signing an extension... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  14. ...not exactly a hit with RISP....but it'll do! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif Time for Danny to Klose this one out! (I'll be so much happier if we can win the series against Phil Garner's team....)
  15. FREE OBERMUELLER! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/sick.gif (I can't believe I just wrote that...)
  16. According to the radio programs I heard on the drive home, apparently Prior has had the same sort of discomfort in the elbow since Spring Training. I can't help but think of Viscaino last year, and wonder just how much of that discomfort the training staff knew about. This was my first game at Wrigley Field (my uncle had extra tickets)....a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. The crowd at tonight's game made last year's games at Miller Park seem evenly attended. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif You can't help but get caught up in the history of the place....but by the time you realize Glendon Rusch has suddenly become a dominant pitcher....it just feels like any other baseball game. Oh, and one of the main reasons that so many Cubs fans go to games in Milwaukee is that there are actually places to park here....to say nothing of Chicago traffic. I really thought the Brewers were going to pull it out when Kieschnick stepped up to the plate. And, BTW, If anyone can explain to me the call when Jenkins had the runner at third beat by a step or two....and the glove was in place to make the tag....I'd love to hear what the announcers said about that play.
  17. According to McCarver....Sheets throws a slider now. Good to know he's working on new pitches, as long as it's an exhibition game after all. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  18. If anyone is actually having a worse game than Clemens, it would have to be his teammate, Jeff Kent. I was switching between the game and Last Comic Standing for a bit (saw the beginning of the game, and Kolb pitching), but I've already seen Kent kick a few grounders (only one of which was called an error), and then not be able to turn the DP because he made a bad feed to SS.
  19. WOO sweep! WOO sweep! WOO sweep! .... I could keep going, but that would be annoying. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  20. http://www.watercare.net/factsheets/images/cartoon-sweep-anim.gif
  21. Helms giveth...but more importantly.... Helms taketh away. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif Bring on the "Sweep!" chanting! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. Ben Grieve not only can't hit with RISP, he can't play defense. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif (I really thought that one was gone...)
  23. Ben Grieve, clutch hitter. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif 2-0 Brewers!
  24. I thought catchers were supposed to break down over time. Borders is only the second guy to catch Pods this year....and he hit a homer! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eek.gif
  25. Podzilla goes UPPER TANK! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eek.gif
