I had completely missed this part of the article. Surely there isn't a nugget capable of producing at replacement level that has more upside than Mike Lamb? Surely the list for potential LH halves of the platoon was longer than Russell Branyan and Mike Lamb?
Dayrle Ward vs MIL: .285/.365/.541, with 12 HR in 207 AB. In contrast, his career numbers are .263/.321/.446 with 89 HR. 13% of his HR have come at the expense of Milwaukee pitchers!
I agree that a change in that policy would have a sizable backlash. It might also have a detrimental affect on concession sales-- if I can't bring in my own food, I'll eat somewhere else beforehand. Often I will bring in a sandwich and have a snack from a concession stand later on.
I was suprised at the difference as well. It really shows around his neck and face. Put me in the "gained 30 lbs" court. Seems like there has to be some connection to his contract unhappiness... where there's smoke, there's often fire.
If they only had video of Prince Fielder in the walk-off win, where he managed to jump up and down, throw off his helmet, and untuck his jersey in one swift motion.
