  1. We've all seen how quickly "I want to spend time with my family" can turn into "I'm just trying to put food on the table"
  2. I like how he took a swipe at the Gatorade dispenser both right handed and left handed. Whose bright idea was it to put that there anyway? Might as well put a rack of guitars down there or something.
  3. "What else do they have to spend it on? Cheese?"
  4. What a poor example of "journalism", but what do you expect from a source as reputable as Inside Edition? I'm sure the stereotype of the city and the name of the Brewers (who are named after the people who brew beer, for those of you playing at home) had a part in them choosing to focus on the Brewers. Go to any opening day that features rivals, and I'm sure you'll find equally as deplorable behavior. Hell, go to a regular game of any heated rival, such as the Yankees and Red Sox, the Phillies and Mets, and the Giants and Dodgers, and the behavior is much worse. How quickly it is forgotten how much more of a problem this was in the 70's and 80's, before the 2 drink and 7th inning restrictions went into place; the only deterrent being the two-fister slopper.
  5. I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore? Wow, this team sucks without Biggio, doesn't it? Five dollar footlongs?
  6. Or better yet, they could shoot a separate cannon and/or hose with the condiments you request.
  7. You know Phillips is unbelievably bad when Joe Morgan is the voice of reason. Going as far to say that Beltran and Wright are chokers? Bitter much, Steve?
  8. Seems like he could always be depended to hit sacrifice flys and punish lefties. Wes gets somewhat of a bad rap due to the year he showed up fat to spring training, made tons of errors, and got injured, but if you overlook those things and his overexposure due to Ned, he's a solid B in my book.
  9. So this is the part where Soup lack of any pitching ability sends the Brewers' hot streak into a tailspin, right? The Cubs have mothers too!
  10. Can't decide which is worse: Gokey's singing or Corey Hart's haircut. Shame that we miss Big Z, I rather enjoy watching the Brewers beat up on him.
  11. I had heard that the issue was that Teixeira said that he was an Oriole fan prior to being drafted, but after being signed with the Yankees he had said he was a Yankee fan growing up.
  12. Here's to the Brewers getting a do-over on the season. Hopefully Rickie Weeks 3.0 and Mike Cameron 8.1 don't regress.
  13. Still no 20 pack tickets. Has anyone else not received theirs?
  14. Will he be playing in the Land O'Lakes penitentiary league?
  15. Lawrie in as a pinch runner.
  16. Lets hope that Wayne Krivsky and Bill Bavasi are considered as replacements... or maybe Dean Taylor?
  17. Beat the Cubs! Will Milton Bradley get into a fight or get injured today?
  18. Wow, a IGT, I almost forgot what they were. Uecker managed to make me ROFL with the whole Pink Panther thing. There's no tying in baseball?
  19. I can see where this is going already: 1. Sheets and the Brewers finally begin to talk 2. Brewers offer a bargain basement deal to bring Sheets back for 2 years at a reasonable rate 3. Sheets uses the Brewers deal to get a bid from another club at $500,000 more 4. Sheets signs with other club.
  20. But don't the big market teams have the most to gain in cost savings from a salary cap? If the payroll of the Yankees is reduced $100MM, it's hard for me to believe that as a result of them potentially being less competitive due to the cap, their revenues would drop $100MM. I'm having troubles imagining how sharing television revenues would work with MLB, when most teams games are on regional sports networks on cable, some teams owning some or all of the regional sports network. If the MLB were to negotiate television contracts for all the teams, the revenue might be spread around more evenly, but the coverage would end up resembling ESPN where the big markets get 99% of the coverage and the small markets are a footnote in terms of resources and airtime. As far as the NFL goes, I think that voidable contracts go much farther in creating parity than the salary cap, but the two are closely linked.
  21. Is there any owner that doesn't want a salary cap?
  22. Does this mean single game tickets will be available? I can't imagine them selling THAT many packages.
  23. I think the Brewers could support a $90MM payroll if and only if they make the playoffs. The difference between the big market and the small market teams is how much risk they're willing to take on the second half of that equation. Think about it this way: Are the Brewers 2:1 odds to make the playoffs if they add one $10MM player? what about two? The team is due to have some honeymoon affect from making the playoffs last year (although considerably less than if they would have made it to, or won the WS), but I don't think the team has the talent to sustain the excitement necessary for the string of sellouts that it drew last year. On the other hand, there's still a good collection of core is still present in non-FA players, but it's going to be hard to address the issues of lack of depth and lack of impact in the rotation simultaneously.
