  1. I'm thinking someone like Jeff Keppinger or something.
  2. I get the feeling the coming free agency market/contracts are going to be quite depressed. Similar to the last time when gas prices and stuff went nuts, teams spent less in the offseason (3 seasons ago?). Fielder is already playing with a short deck, since the market for him is basically the AL. He'll likely be a Yankee, which is a market entirely it's own, but I can't see him getting $100 million or something insane like $150 million. And, I think the Brewers will end up being thankful that Boras doesn't advise his clients to sign before they hit the market. I love the guy as a Brewer, but I hardly think he's a wise long-term investment.
  3. Dancing Man is one of my very favorite beers of all-time. Absolutely love it.
  4. A young version of Counsell. Maybe even some insane Counsell/Eckstein hybrid type.
  5. For every Robin Yount, there are 20 Corey Pattersons who never figured it out.
  6. Good for him. Always a fan.
  7. Just to be clear, I'm not saying he's not better than Reed. He obviously is, but that doesn't make him good. The reserve OF situation isn't exactly pretty.
  8. I'll still take a tournament like this over one of them where all four #1 seeds make the Final Four. That's boring to me.
  9. The whole grunge thing is basically that loud/quiet/loud thing (thanks to the Pixies).
  10. THIS. Gimme Shelter probably would work, too.
  11. Unless his speed is starting to slip, which I think is possible considering his lower BA/lower SB% last season.
  12. The last few shows I have seen were great... I drove to Fayetteville, AR to see Lucero twice at the end of February and then saw Merle Haggard/Kris Kristofferson in Green Bay on March 1st. Next up is James McMurtry/The Bottle Rockets on Wednesday night in Madison at High Noon.
  13. I personally don't think that a guy that was 34/51 on SB's last season is all that good of a base stealer.
  14. Mike Cameron is possibly the most underrated Brewer of the past decade and it has nothing to do with his leadership.
  15. The point is that a) aside from power, Morgan has been a solid offensive player, save last year, and b) he covers a heck of a lot of ground in the OF. I always find it funny that so many people expect Melvin to be able to fill every spot on the roster with guys who can hit .300, smack 20 homers, and be Gold Glove defenders. Not every guy on the team, and even in the starting lineup, is going to be really good, and even the best ones usually have deficiencies in some areas. Morgan is a pretty decent 4th OF. I certainly don't expect him to fill the roster with those guys... I have probably been as pro-Melvin as anyone here, over his entire tenure. I just would have much rather had a power bat off the bench than a speed guy - especially when the guy runs into outs like it's going out of style.
  16. I understand that, re: Hart and Weeks, IF they repeat last season's production. I have faith in Weeks' ability to do so more than Hart's, but at the same time there is always the injury cloud surrounding Weeks. Granted, Braun should have a more Braun-like season than last year provided he's healthy now. The concern isn't so much that those guys aren't good, though, it's that those others are so bad. I was optimistic on Lucroy coming into ST, but missing it might set him back a good bit. He basically hit like Jason Kendall, which is pretty bad. He'll probably be better, anyhow, but I don't think to the point that he'll be a really helpful hitter. And having four hitters in your lineup who are likely to have around/below .300 OBP's is never good, no matter who hits at the top of the lineup (not to mention that Gomez could still end up hitting 2nd, which is an absolutely terrible idea. My real worry is that this is a pretty average, 82-ish win team, or so.
  17. I think there are issues that are going to bite the team all season, especially in the lineup... Gomez/Betancourt/Lucroy/pitcher is pretty rough. There's not the depth in the lineup that is necessary to offset a couple guys going into a couple week slump. They kind of need Weeks and Hart to perform at last season's level. The defense is obviously poor. What if Greinke puts up a 4+ ERA again (I don't think he will, but it's not exactly impossible)? I'm not so much concerned with these few injuries, that's just part of the game.
  18. Yeah, I am wicked bummed that it's Cutter that went. I know he wasn't exactly climbing the ladder fast, but trading him for a guy that's just going to get non-tendered after a season bums me out.
  19. This is quite a stretch. Morgan had a bad year last season, but his career slash line is: .283/.344/.360. What's missing is power, but he can hit and get on base.I think he might be one of those speed-type guys hitting the wall at this point. He's not young anymore and he's a singles hitter.
  20. I don't get it, really. Is it a mission to try and have the worst offensive CF tandem in MLB? I guess if Roenicke doesn't let Morgan run, it wouldn't be the worst 5th OF in MLB, but since he can't hit, either, what's the point?
  21. I love the guy. But calling him an "OF" is a pretty big stretch. He's a DH who has a glove laying around somewhere. He's really an AL player, which is why he got released like End said and no one grabbed him.
  22. I love Jayson Werth... but wow.
  23. The funny thing is that some of the pitchers are actually better hitters than those two guys. Gallardo should hit 7th when he starts. And I'm not even being sarcastic.
  24. Maybe they just want to keep the amount of playable guys on the roster at an even number.
