  1. This is like watching a Ohio State football game...high camera angle.
  2. Please tell me you aren't referring to last night. The guy was cruising and melted in a heartbeat. IMO Yost has shown a quicker hook this year, but when a guy melts in the 4-6th innings, its tough. With all of those extra inning games early and the injuries, he has to be cognizant of his overusing his pen as well. The biggest problem is the pitching depth is gone. There just aren't many viable options for an ineffective Bush.
  3. Inman is having a nice year at AA so far, but he certainly wouldn't have helped us this year...or next. Although that trade sure isn't looking that good now unless JZ can work his magic on those supplementals.
  4. The toughest part of this debate is there really aren't a great deal of options. Sheets has been great, but without Yo, it's cross your fingers time between Ben's starts (although Parra has been more encouraging). What are our options: Weaver - his ERA is like Bush's...in Nashville ZachJack - ditto DiFelice - maybe he's got the yips out and can settle down now McClung - Has been ok in relief, we'll see what happens Saturday, but likely won't go more than 4-5 Villy - Hopefully a little pen time can get him back Narveson? These guys all have their merits...but who on that list is better than a 5th starter? DM is in a tough spot. We just don't have the starting pitching to make a run and as he has stated, going out and acquiring will be a big cost at this point. I'm starting to think that a bigger question is what do we do for next year?
  5. 3 innings...33 pitches...keep it up Bushy!!!
  6. Right after Cam & Weeks get over the Mendoza line...we get Bush below a 6 ERA...that's like a croc eating an alligator and spitting out a bird on the ground...or something...what channel is Animal Planet on DirecTV again???
  7. Great memory brewguru. I'll never forget that interview...one of the saddest in this sports fan's memory. In many ways the day Gorman was traded was "The day the music died" for Milwaukee baseball...only rivaled by allowing Molitor to leave. However, let's face it, Gorman didn't have a lot of gas left in the tank either and didn't really do much post-Milwaukee. From a sentiment standpoint...number one no doubt. From a quality of trade standpoint, borderline top ten worst...maybe not even on the list. The Cooper trade will always be my fave. I kept thanking everyone in Boston last weekend for that one...they had no idea what the heck I was talking about. The Burnitz/Seitzer deal needs to be in the top 5. Great list...great work...a fun stride down memory lane.
  8. I'm kind of neutral on Yost in general, but I agree with Invader. I thought there was a very reasonable argument by the anti-Yost crowd last year. He managed the pen poorly and made a few strange decisions down the stretch. This year I can't really point to anything that Yost has done that I really questioned. I'd even say he's learned from last year. His pen management has been better. I thought he showed a quicker hook on some guys like T-bow when he was struggling that he didn't do last year. They have been aggressive on the basepaths which overall has helped. It's really been more about injuries and performance. The negative argument has shifted in a sense from last years concrete examples of mis-management to a "softer" argument of 1) they aren't performing and someone has to take the blame 2) Ned's personality rubs people the wrong way or 3) I didn't like Yost last year and with the Brewers not hitting expectations, I still don't like him. It was easier for me to see the anti-Yost case last year versus this year. If at year end it becomes evident that Yost isn't the right fit for the club, then make a move. Until then I just don't see how the current struggles are Yost's fault.
  9. The Ace indeed...way to go Benny!!! The beat goes on?!?!
  10. With only 2 righties to face in the Pitt/Wash series (one tonight), I would doubt you'd see Branyan until after. The comment from Yost RE: Hall seems to be the most concrete evidence this is under serious consideration. Any thoughts on how Branyan's defense has been this year? Hall has been a nice addition at third this year defensively. Although this weekend his plate struggles seem to be effecting him in the field. I've never been a big Branyan fan like most people on this board, but at this point, Hall looks lost. Why not give the platoon a shot. Maybe it helps get Hall going.
  11. I thought it was a questionable call, but I'm going to give the coaches the benefit of the doubt on it. Being more aggressive is a conscious philosophical change by the Brewers. It didn't work there, but it did work when Sveum sent Hall later in the game. A good throw would have had him easily, but McLouth couldn't do it and Hall scored. Otherwise it would have been a 100 post thread about "the windmill". They are going to be aggressive and at times will look bad because of it...the double steal was one of those times. If we aggregate all of the aggressive calls, my guess is its had an overall benefit.
  12. Interesting comparison. I'm much more confident that the bats will far exceed the 2005 performance by year end and even more confident they will over the long term. The pitching is a different question. Maybe that starting staff maxed out as well as could be, but the current starters have yet to prove they can be any better. Much of that has to do with losing a solid #2 starter in Yo. Sheets is awesome when healthy, Soup is Soup and Parra seems to be coming on. Everyone else is either injured (Yo, Cappy), has untapped potential (Villy) or is nothing better than a 5 (Bush). Gagne v. Turnbow...this is a hole that just wasn't filled this year. I can't blame Melvin for taking a one year shot, but it appears the experiment has failed. I think the rest of our bullpen is rather solid.
  13. If McClung is the sacrificial lamb to allow Villy to get back...so be it. After 3 innings, Villy will probably be out there anyway. They really don't have a lot of options.
  14. I agree with Ray...it's apples and oranges. TH left himself wide open by not following the basic rules of credible journalism. For Yost to let him have it I think was justified. Granted, Yost talks down to the press which can be bothersome because it makes him seem like he's talking down to the fans. I think that turns people off, but in this case his rant is completely justified. Journalists have the right to ask tough questions and print articles that question and aren't always favorable to the subject. That's fair, but if they can't be credible, they should be called on it. As for Braun, his comments were productive in nature and frankly, he's earned the right to make those comments. He's one of our best players and showed a deep commitment to the franchise in signing that contract. He called it as he sees it and he cares...Bravo Ryan.
  15. Brew Crew about to rattle off 6/7...just a feeling. 5 lefties and the next opposing righty has Sheets (2 starts in next 7) starting for us. The meltdown last weekend may light a fire...and the two big boys are en fuego. Plus, Yost went off on TH (justifiably so IMO) before the game...I like the fire!!! GO BREWERS!!!
  16. I missed that on Sunday, but heard numerous people around me yelling it on Saturday night. My response was...so do I, that means we're winning. After they retook the lead on Sat. night, I yelled over to a guy who was giving me some good natured grief..."That's it...No Gagne for you!" There fans were pretty solid, but their mood sure did change a little when we took the lead...ever so briefly. The standing O for Kapler was classy...I'm sure the reception for Gagne would have been different. It was noticeable that they had some low level club exec present him with his WS ring deep inside the visting clubhouse.
  17. This is purely subjective, but he seems to lose concentration on the mound at times. I know he likes to be a starter, and we really need him to be now, but he was very effective out of the bullpen last year in that 6-7th inning role. With a bunch of starters that can't get through the 5th or 6th, I wonder if he would be a good compliment to Torres in the pen at some point.
  18. Yost loves the Starbucks at Mitchell...he probably grabbed a Venti drip and headed back to Pittsburgh.
  19. I thought Braun's comments were great today. He stated the facts in a positive manner. He's trying to give his teammates a boost and change their mindset. If he's going to be here for another 8 years, he wants to win. This team has the talent to do that. I think Prince is fine as well. It doesn't have to be a one or the other...we need both of these guys to be the leaders. People read too much in to some of Prince's comments. He seems well regarded by his teammates and was a definite leader last year. His bat is coming around as well.
  20. Overall - D Plenty of runs, although plenty of missed opportunities to really pile on. The fielding was atrocious. Suppan and Bush battled after getting down early. Villy needs to get his head in the game. He seems to lose concentration out there. The body language from the players seemed to confirm what Braun said...they didn't expect to win. The Brewer fans get an A+. It was unreal how many came out to Fenway for the weekend. Even the Sox fans were impressed.
  21. Just got back from Fenway...unbelievable how many Brewer fans were at the game.
  22. Brutal...I'm in town for the game for one night...and its supposed to rain. No rain yet. Fingers crossed. I need to take the blame for the rain. My first trip to Miller Park was the time they had the power failure. LOL.
  23. I love it. They do it just enough to keep it special and not overdo it. It adds a little extra interest and seeing a series like the Brewers at Fenway or the Yanks coming to Milwaukee is awesome. As far as unbalanced schedule, it's fairly minimal over a 162 game sked. I like the rivalry series too. It probably means more to New Yorkers or Chicagoans, but the Twins series is fun. If anything it adds to the all-star game because now I know who some of the AL guys are. It also is great for Brewers fans that grew up as AL fans. Playing the old AL East rivals brings back fond memories of the best time to be a Brewers fan...until NOW!!!
