  1. Gameday seems to be siding with the ump on these close calls.
  2. Maybe RR is planning on a massive outlet of frustration through a gigantic beanball war in the Cards series and doesn't want Zack getting hurt. Then again, Seth McClung would probably be starting on Wednesday instead of Thornburg.
  3. The thought on Lucroy at another position is to get his bat in the lineup when he can't catch. Obviously that depends on what the other options are, but he can't catch more than 3/4 of the games. Dropping that a little and keeping his bat in the lineup is something to consider if we don't have a Hart or Aoki to rely on.
  4. This can't be good... per McCalvy: "The Brewers bumped right-hander Zack Greinke from a scheduled start against the Cardinals on Wednesday, and he will not pitch in the club's subsequent series in Cincinnati, a club spokesperson said Monday." http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120716&content_id=35023708&vkey=news_mil&c_id=mil
  5. He'll probably stay up and should, but even if he is sent down it would only be for a month. My guess is Bianchi goes back. The guy looks really good, especially his defense. Makes me wonder if he could play 100 games behind the plate, with Lucroy catching 60 and playing another 100 at 1B or RF. Luc has gotten better at D, but Maldy looks a little better. Maldy's bat has been stellar, but I still think Luc is a way better hitter. Nice problem to have with 2 solid young cost controlled catchers.
  6. There are no complete teams in the NL. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. The Pirates used some early season luck and started to get rolling once the offense kicked in. Their starters aren't bad and their bullpen is solid. I can see them keeping up in the Central the rest of the season. The Brewers are every bit as good as any of them...their pen has just cost them too many games and they aren't so dominant in any other phase to overcome it. A little roll could get them in it...hope it happens this week.
  7. Textbook pitching...Yo was dominant, KRod & Ax slam the door. Nice. I agree AZ...McCutchen was unreal this series...he's got my vote right now. He has to be the best Pirate since Bonds left. He and Braun really put on a show this series.
  8. Ben Sheets just walked against Santana...that may be more amazing than his pitching!
  9. To be fair adam...most of the pen has been used so it's a little quiet out there.
  10. That's Manny in a microcosm...horrible, terrific, completely unpredictable...the ultimate enigma.
  11. Andrew McCutcheon is really good at baseball too. Manny Parra...not so much.
  12. RR looked angry after Nyjer got caught stealing...almost seemed like Nyjer went on his own. Ryan Braun is going to do everything he can to put this team on his back...I don't care what the national media think, Braun is my MVP.
  13. There is no team in the NL that is dominant. The Brewers are just as good as any of them, all they need to do is get on a roll. They are scoring runs, fielding adequately and the starting pitching has been solid...if the bullpen can use this downtime to get healthy and get in a groove, they'll win more than they'll lose. This much I know...I'll be watching!!! BTW...this Braun guy is really good at baseball.
  14. This board is way too down on Weeks after a couple poor months. It would have to value Rickie at his full value of the last 5 years before I'd entertain an offer. The guy has been one of the best 2B in the game over that period.
  15. You can't take offers and shop them anywhere else right now. If other teams were talking to him, it would be tampering. Setting a price is an issue in the offseason, but not during the season while trying to sign a player to an extension. I understand he can't shop it now, but that offer will still be there in free agency. If he really wanted to stay and not test free agency, the Brewers would show their cards. If they don't think he'd realistically sign, why give him a number he can shop to other clubs in the off season. Just my outside opinion, but I don't think they ever got that far. They probably talked around the edges and realized Cain put the bid/ask too far apart. I'd love to be proven wrong and have them reach a decent deal before the deadline, but I just don't see it happening.
  16. I'm not convinced he's gotten the Brewers best offer. I thought I remembered MA & DM making some comments about free agents liking to talk to the Brewers, but just to get an offer they could shop. They may be wary of setting the price for Zack just to have him take it somewhere else. If he showed a more genuine interest to say, make it a good one and I'm in, it might get done.
  17. The chances the Brewers get back into the race aren't great, but unless someone beats down the door with a "Profar-like" prospect or big time haul to get the Greinke deal done they might as well give it a shot over the next couple weeks. If they are going to go for it, why not try and help the pen with a guy like Thornburg. I'd rather he stay a starter long term as well, but the experience of pitching in the bigs and potentially being effective in that role should offset any negatives of not starting for awhile. He'll still get his innings in and probably be fine for next year if that's what his role is. I do also hope they are realistic with themselves if they are in the same place in 2 weeks. At that point it's trade anything they can versus any potential draft picks...and take the best they can get. It just seems the Greinke to XYZ for 3-4 ok prospects deal will be there at the deadline as much as it is now. It doesn't seem the aggressor is willing to step up with the get it done type offer yet so why not play it out a little more.
  18. I still don't understand why everyone got all bent out of shape at Bud for that. It's an exhibition game (or was), they ran out of pitchers...without screwing a couple pitchers by maxing them out or throwing a position player out there, what the heck was he supposed to do? OK, maybe they should have had more of a contingency plan in place but the game was fun and they put on a good show...isn't that what an exhibition is supposed to be? The national media just used it as an excuse to attack Selig when they were really upset over a variety of other issues.
  19. Prince just untucked...TLR will probably throw at him tomorrow for that. Way to go Prince!
  20. I love how Prince still has Sandy Guerrero throwing to him.
  21. Rickie closing in on that Mendoza line. C'mon Crew...let's leave this crappy first half with a good taste in our mouths!
  22. Wow...ugly AB by Corey. He looks like he's farther off the plate than normal...although it could be fooling my eyes when he swings at those 2 ft off the plate breaking balls.
  23. OK Holbrook, maybe we're almost even...gameday showed all 4 of the first pitches to Braun as strikes.
