  1. You don't seem to be grasping the problem people have with your "quote". Try whatever station Tom Pipines is on. I saw it on the late news after we got back from the Brewers game Saturday night. I remember it was him because I thought to myself...wow, this guy is still on TV.
  2. Fair analysis on the value of Gallardo. How would you quantify a top 20 pitching prospect? 6 years of cost control/arb, with a discount factor for the probability the do/don't make it. Curious what type of number you'd come up with.
  3. Yes I did hear the quote, however I didn't hear it the way you did. You took what you heard and added your own interpretation and quoted it as fact. This seems to be a running theme in some of your posts. I understand sometimes it's difficult to find a link to things you hear on the radio or see on TV, but my suggestion for the future would be qualifying the quote. "I heard something to the effect of..." "I heard on xyz which sounded like..." "Did anyone else hear what I thought I did..." I believe this would help your credibility and add to the discussion. The quotes from Greinke were certainly interesting and different from what he's said in the past. Discussing the quotes is completely legit. I haven't been able to find the exact quotes either. I probably heard the same quotes you did and interpreted them as Zack simply comparing the AL & NL and the advantages of not having to bat. In many ways it just sounded like Zack being Zack. I did not draw the same conclusion that this means he'll sign with an AL club nor did I hear him say I'll never play in the NL again.
  4. Only one blown save tonight...progress! This move is already paying big dividends. Look out parking lot attendants and volunteer concessionaires...you're next!
  5. "I'm glad I'm not in the NL anymore. Having to bat is too much of a distraction. After you pitch, you go into the dugout, and instead of thinking about the next 3 batters you have to face, you have to think about your next at bat. I'll never pitch in the NL again"I did see a comment he made on the local (Milwaukee) news about hitting being a distraction, which was surprising...but I don't recall him saying "I'll never pitch in the NL again". I think you are taking some liberty with that quote.
  6. Total class...that's about as good as it gets in a post-mortem interview. Best wishes Stan.
  7. I had more issues with RR's bullpen management last year than this year. The whole 7/8/9 inning role instead of using matchups is bunk IMO, but they all do it. Last year using Loe as the 7th inning guy when the other team was full of lefties or had the meat of the order up was foolish. This year, I just don't think there is anything he could have done. It doesn't matter who he puts in, they all blow up. The bigger decisions will be with Melvin in the offseason deciding who can rebound and who is toast versus scapegoating pitching and bullpen coaches.
  8. Glad to see the drunk guy a row over from the game yesterday is finally getting to make the decisions for the team. Good luck to the next guy whose primary job is to hand the ball to the bullpen guy to warm up. Pure silliness.
  9. This seems like the typical talk radio type response to problems when things go wrong. All the good pitchers were already good, all the bad ones are getting bad coaching. I have no way of evaluating whether Kranitz is the right guy or not. The team had great pitching last year, this year is horrendous with most of the same guys. Same coach.
  10. Awesome...now I can root for the Angels! Go Zack! No Olt...boo Rangers...I hope Zack no hits them twice in the playoffs...and then signs with the Brewers! (eternal optimist)
  11. There are no truly elite teams in the NL right now, nor should there be any over the next couple years. Despite the crummy year, a decent pen, some health and a better performance or two...the Brewers are knocking on the door and looking for a piece to put them over the top. Trading Gallardo is something you do when looking at a complete rebuild. The situation is nowhere near that dire. Second half of he decade? Gets tougher to keep going if the minor league system doesn't keep improving. It's also tough for me to see the big markets (LA, Chicago & NY) floundering the way they have. It's not going to be much fun to be a Brewers fan when the Cubs get it together. In the meantime, keep it going and try and get in the dance. Hope they get hot and can put a flag up on the wall...and don't trade Gallardo.
  12. Reading the article where Doug refers to Zack as like a son...I started thinking, wouldn't it be cool if Doug had Zack in the war room helping him put the trade together. If they can use him for the draft, why not help scout some arms.
  13. We're only one more thread from finishing the complete set of 25 "trade or DFA xyz Brewer player". Maybe I'll start the Braun one. He did go 0 for 3 tonight.
  14. Haudricourt was on the D List and they mentioned Melvin's theory on relievers...one bad year, one good one...reversion to the mean. Doug has always found some interesting scrap heap guys over the years. It begs the question...is this year's garbage bullpen actually a group that could rebound next year? There's no shortage of garbage to choose from. Ax is cheap and can still rebound. Parra is only a year removed from surgery and has been moderately effective at times. Loe can still work as a ROOGY. Veras seems to have too many miles on him...same with KRod, but at the right price do you keep them? A complete overhaul may be asking a lot. Maybe a Rogers or Thornburg can contribute and a couple cheaper FAs. I wonder...would anyone play Melvin's theory on these guys beyond Axford?
  15. It could also be that the Brewer Nation report just phrased it wrong. Maybe the Brewers really are looking at the contract, but didn't actually "request" it. Who knows, right? He could have just requested it from an intern who went and pulled it off their database. Don't think this proves anything one way or another.
  16. I miss Ned too...he would have given us a solid "K-Rod pitched great" today after the game. Plus, Maldonado would be getting more work down at Nashville after we picked up Jason Kendall. Without question, pulling Greinke was the absolute right thing to do yesterday. There are no good options in the bullpen, they all stink. Other than that...yes, the bunt stuff, the Kotsay in CF and starting Marcum in game 6 last year all make me scratch my head...but Ned wasn't very good either.
  17. I now have another reason to watch the games...all the stuff Russ said, watching Ryan Braun be Ryan Braun...and defending Augie! What can I say, I've loved the Brewers since I was that 10 year old that didn't know anything about baseball and I miss all my old drunk uncles. I freaking love Augie...der hey. Been my favorite since he was our best up and coming pitcher...granted it was a brief moment, but he was. Wisconsin proud!
  18. The Brewers run was built on the backs of some premium draft talent...they'll be picking at a spot they haven't been at in a while if this keeps up. Between that and the Greinke deal, the farm system should be pointed up. The team should be competitive next year...by no means a favorite, but in the mix. As long as there is optimism and hope, it's fun to watch.
  19. Glad to hear that. If trades are handled professionally, I don't see why a team couldn't sign a traded player in their next free agency. It certainly happens. On the flip side, if the Brewers don't trade Greinke but he still makes it to free agency, why should we assume the Brewers have an advantage over other teams? I thought I remember the Brewers trading Jim Slaton for Ben Oglivie, then signing Slaton back in the off season. Different era, different economics, but hopefully if ZG leaves on good terms there is a shot. Heck, trading him might make us better next year and more attractive.
  20. I didn't get everyone complaining about RR taking Greinke out before they trade him with a 5 run lead in a meaningless game... ...but did he just bunt again in front of the pitcher?
  21. IMO, Melvin has made up his mind. Usually when he negotiates he tends to find his partner and works with them. My guess is he's got his team and something is in the works. They can't do anything until after Greinke showcases himself tomorrow night anyway. Given his history, my guess is it's the Rangers. Funny how a meaningless game between two of the NL's most disappointing teams has become the Brewers most important game of the year. I'd tune in...it's probably the last time you'll ever see ZG on the mound in a Brewers uniform.
  22. Surprised Jack Z could get that one past ownership. Looks like the times are truly changing in Seattle.
