  1. It was a long AB and Braun had seen all of the pitches multiple times, complaining about pitch selection on that pitch is completely wrong, it is all about execution which was happily lacking. The Brewers staff was a huge weakness last year that we hid with the bullpen, it was a huge weakness going into the season. The fact we rate 12th out of 16 teams is exactly where we should be with such a low level of pitching talent on the team and a number of underperformers and injuries. This was a bad pitching staff going into the year and had a lot of injuries, 12th out of 16th is just reasonable expectation.
  2. I won't say that nobody ever notices the nets, but in my experience this is how it actually works for most people. When you get seats behind the net it is very jarring at first but you quickly adjust and they just are no big deal. Doesn't mean that everyone's brain works this way but the vast majority of them do.
  3. Pitchers are goofy so there is no way at all to know what he is. The Slider has really changed his profile for sure though, he was not a viable starter before this season but now that his arsenal has more depth and a better put away pitch he may be. For 2020 I think it is very clear he should be a starter to begin the season. Doesn't mean that won't change during the season. Pitchers reinvent themselves all the time so it is hard to just put a label on guys or just assume growth isn't for real because the sample is small.
  4. Wow, this really put into perspective how the game has changed for HR in recent history. There is no way I would have thought he was top 100 already. He probably won't reach top 50 but he should end up top 75 for a few seasons at least before too many pass him.
  5. Do the rest of the players in your fantasy league suck? How did you get those three? This really isn't hard in a keeper league. Yelich was like a 4th round pick as a Marlin. Jose Ramirez would have been a 4th-6th round pick or even lower just 3 years ago as well.
  6. But basically all the metrics say the Cubs roster is significantly better than the Brewers. Run differential means nothing compared to wins and losses, but it's a pretty good indicator of the talent an organization has. I never mentioned the Cubs in my post, not sure why you assumed I was saying anything about them. I'm just saying run differential is not a stat that I invest in heavily. I'm not sure why I'm counting what Corbin Burnes did in April as to how good a team the Brewers have today or how the bench player we used to pitch a game and had him give up 6 extra runs matters. It just isn't a stat I rely on.
  7. Well just look at what happened in Boston. Win the World Series one year, have a good record but miss the playoffs. GM gone.
  8. I'm a big stats guy in general and I have to say that run differential is very low on the ranking of meaningful stats. One team leaving their bad RPs out to dry to give up 15 runs does not change how good a team is in important games. This is one of those stats that skews meaningless more than meaningful. I mean if you have like a -100 and you are 10 games over that is fishy, but it isn't a metric that you can use to really compare teams.
  9. Melvin left a team that was likely a 100 loss team with a below average farm system. What Stearns did over the past 3 years is a miracle. We should be going on our 3rd straight year of 90+losses at this point instead of almost going to a world series and being in the hunt for a playoff. We should be the 2019 Orioles but we are competing for a playoff because of the GM. This is one of those head scratchers for me. With a bad GM this team is one of the worst in baseball over the past 3 years and still has a bad farm system. There is no objective method that suggest Stearns has done a bad job, it makes no sense at all. When he took over most of us thought the team was going into a 6 or 7 year rebuild and he did it in 2 years.
  10. I was hoping for 1 win in this series, this isn't the series that is going to make or break the playoffs. We need to dominate the rest of the schedule which is all bad teams. Getting one win out of this series is pretty important though.
  11. Almost nobody notices the net once they get used to seats so this is a no brainer.
  12. No. They are going to lose more than 1 game the rest of the way no matter how well they play. Every loss makes it harder but a loss here isn't some sort of deathknell.
  13. They have a mutual option for $16M with a $2.25M buyout. So it probably really comes down to whether Grandal wants that deal or not.
  14. No more likely than just about any other season ending type of injury in the game. This is not more concerning than any other major injury. I mean any time you have a guy with back to back MVP seasons you are worried if he can repeat it, add a big injury and it is even less likely, but the nature of this injury is not concerning compared to others in the big picture.
  15. A 25% chance to not win the division is still a really good chance to not win it, not sure what you are trying to say here. If you are supposed to do something 3 times out of 4 you still fail at it 1 time out of 4 which is pretty darn common.
  16. I don't think any win now trades really have anything to do with this, those have not be a huge player in their success recently.. To be honest I feel that something outside of the product on the field is at play here.
  17. At the end of the day someone is going to win NL MVP this year and 2-5 other guys will miss out on the award even though their seasons were good enough to be an MVP. There is no real separation here. Voters are probably going to favor guys who make the playoffs, guys who have crazy good final months and to be honest will probably dock Yelich a bit because he won it last year and some voters don't like giving it to repeats.
  18. I approve of this message! My profile picture is Eric Davis in case you can't tell since it can be hard to see .
  19. Counsell rarely does anything with the bullpen that just makes no sense at all. Given how little information we have about players from a day to day perspective that is all I really can ask for. Yost is the one that always bothered me. There would be 6 guys in the pen and I would have been fine with 5 of the 6 pitching and he would very often go with the 6th guy who was just a sure fire bad choice.
  20. I would say the 2011 Cubs were in a much better spot than the 2015 Brewers when Hoyer took over. They had a number of major league pieces to trade off just like the Brewers did and the minor league system already had Baez and Rizzo in it. Stearns took over a team that had no real impact prospect on it, Arcia being the #1 prospect and I never thought he would hit. This team had nothing at all when he took over, the outlook was really bleak. The fact he didn't take 5 years to rebuild it means a ton.
  21. Going into the season i don't think the team thought Chacin was their best starter. Just the best out of the guys who had pitched a full season in the majors already so didn't need some control over their pitches thrown on the year. We started 3 rookies in the rotation, doesn't leave a lot of choices for the opening day guy.
  22. Definitely for 2020-2021. When Yelich leaves in 2023 things get a bit dicier. That is the price we paid for getting him though. It would have been nice if one of Peralta and Burnes had actually worked out so we had 2 young starters to build around obviously. Hiura, Grisham, Yelich looks like a good offensive core to build around and Stearns has proven he has been able to get the fringe support guys to flesh out a lineup. We did not go for the tear it down and stink for 5+ years type rebuild so it is going to need creativity more than those teams do to stay good. Very few impact players fall off of the team in 2020. Moose and probably Grandall. Those departures take a lot of cash with them so they can find replacements. As for the complaints about lineup tinkering, every team in baseball does that. It is not a counsell thing. Watch some other teams and you'll realize this isn't a Brewer specific thing, it is just how baseball works in 2019.
  23. I don't understand this statement. Stearns took over a team with a mediocre farm system that lost 94 games and that looked like it was going into a 5 or 6 year tank job and got them above .500 in 2 seasons and 1 hit away from the World Series in 3 years. Hard to complain about Stearns' results so far. I figured the team would look like the 2017 White Sox at this point, instead we almost went to the World Series last year.
  24. The Reds have played to about their 90th percentile stats as a team and are going to miss the playoffs by 5+ games. Not giving any sort of award to a team for that. The Bauer trade was probably a big loss for the Reds too. They aren't very likely to compete next year and after that they just threw away a high end prospect for nothing.
  25. Red Sox bullpen was awful going into the playoffs last year and they won it. There is no true path to winning it all, just get hot at the right time.
