  1. Hall is pretty terrible at getting to line drives which almost always get by him. I'd say he has been pretty close to average to maybe a tiny bit above verage overall at 3B this year though it is a 'flashy' average. Guys like Feliz and Zimmerman are better fielders and someone like Wright with the reputation and east coast big market background is more likely to win it. edit: I looked up some numbers, Hall has been just slightly better than average according to the numbers so far, however he was at like -10 UZR/150 after the first week so he has made up ground lately. The team in general is #2 in baseball so far with only Fielder being below replacement(though I agree he has looked good this past week too).
  2. Certain hitters are going to be better against certain types of pitchers so I don't have a huge problem with it. I'd rather they say that "pitcher" X likes to pitch low and outside and our "hitter Y" likes the ball there so it is a good matchup. As for Macha vs Yost, it is too early to tell. Macha is getting to know the team so things like leaving a pitcher in a little too long is understandable right now. For the most part I haven't had as many head shaking reactions to his moves as I generally had with Yost. Yost made some moves that weren't just bad but so bad that it was almost like he wanted to lose the game.
  3. The Marlins were not the best team in baseball either year they won the world series, so I don't see this being a compelling argument. It is a strong case for trying to build teams that have a chance to get into the playoffs because once you reach the playoffs anyone has a chance to win the world series, even if they aren't the best team out there.
  4. I would think by no more fire sales they mean they wont' sell off every little bit of talent they have in the same season like they did a couple times in the past. Trading away say Ramirez before the last year of his contract is most likely still going to happen, but that isn't a fire sale.
  5. I don't know what Hart was doing with that slide, but a normal slide is safe there.
  6. Julio is probably gone when Hoffman is back and then the worst RP is probably McClung. Don't think there is room for anyone. PitchFx says he is throwing 88 MPH this year compared to 91.9 last year for the fastball. His slider is down 3.5 MPH and change up is down 6 MPH. Of course it is only 52 pitches so hard to know how accurate it really is.
  7. I think Gallardo and Owings are probably better hitters than Zambrano at this point, though your point is probably correct. This isn't something new for Kendall, last year he had 3 completely miserable months and 3 very tolerable months and they alternated. When he is hot he can still put up a .700+ OPS for a month, when he's not it is groundout to 3B and pop up over and over.
  8. Kendall had 3 miserable months at the plate last year too and then 3 servicable months so there is hope that he turns it around. I would still LOVE to see Rivera out there for 2 pitchers instead of 1 at this point. Having an extra black hole in the lineup for months at a time is not going to work this year. We got away with it last year because of how good the pitching was but since we took a step back in pitching we need to take a step forward in offense.
  9. There was a comment in a BPro article that the HRs are likely to fly out of there the most when the winds are a certain direction and at least 10 MPH, conditions that generally happen in spring and not summer. They suggested that about 1/3 of the way through the season things would settle down, kind of like how Wrigley swaps from pitcher to hitters park at times.
  10. I would think each player reacts to something like that differently. Yelling at one player might motivate them, yelling at another might just make them perform worse.
  11. Really? Because every ball put in play of Hardy's that I can recall has been a shallow pop-up. You quoted something from the 15th, Hardy was smoking balls all over the place the first 2 weeks but they were just right at people. He has struggled a bit more the past week.
  12. So basically Yost made a comment about Parra's mental toughness and now fans will throw it at him every time he has a couple bad starts is what this is all about. I guess this is how these types of things usually work. I mean Looper looks like he is freaking out on the mound after every ball, doesn't mean he isn't mentally tough. McClung is 'tough' yet he can't throw a strike to save his life half the time. If anything the problem Parra has had in his career is he struggles that 3rd time through the lineup, if I'm worried about anything with him it is that he won't be able to go more than 5-6 IP per start even when he gets his control. Parra's 'wall' was almost completely BABIP which does suggest fatigue naivin. His K/9 and BB/9 were fantastic late in the year, this is a very different issue he is having with not being able to throw strikes.
  13. You are still just nitpicking though. The point is pitchers all over baseball are having problems throwing strikes just like they do every single season in April. The fact the Brewers have a few more BBs than other teams doesn't really matter much. It is more or less random which pitchers have the problem, we just happen to have more guys off to slow start than some other teams do. There is no real reason to worry about this just yet. April is not a very useful sample when it comes to this subject. It stinks that it has happened, it has cost us some games already, but it isn't really indicative of the future in any way.
  14. Really? Not being able to throw strikes makes him mentally soft? Was he mentally tough last year when he had his very good stretch?
  15. That is all fine and dandy that you think this, but it obviously isn't true. I mean every single season walks are high in April, this isn't some random occurance, it is something that happens every season.
  16. It is pretty much random, same thing happens every single season. About 30% of the pitchers just can't throw strikes and it is different pitchers every year. It seriously is not worth worrying about for a couple weeks still.
  17. At least he found a bit more unique way to hit into it!
  18. Yes it is. Walks are somewhat random in April. I am a huge fantasy baseball guy and the one thing I have learned is that April is the most meaningless month stat wise(sept being a close 2nd with all the minor league players playing). You probably would get a better picture of players if you completely throw out April. Every year a bunch of random guys get off to terrible starts offensively and a bunch of pitchers just can't throw strikes at all. The players who have issues seem to mostly be random every season though a few repeat offenders do exist. Generally speaking by May most of it has settled down and you see the real players in action. If we still have a ton of BBs the last week of April and the first week of May then you can really start to worry but right now this is just normal April baseball. It isn't a positive attitude, I'm just a realist. Seriously April is just like this, you would be better off just ignoring the month completely other than cheering for the team. Don't start worrying about guys until May.
  19. You are arguing semantics though. Every single season tons of pitchers walk tons of guys in April and then settle down and pitch more like expected from May on. This really is no different than any other season. I posted it on the main forum but just tonight we've had like 6 teams with 6+ BB and at least 4 players walked in with the bases loaded today. Walks are high in April, thats baseball. We are just getting hit with it a bit more than some other teams.
  20. The injury is the type you have to 'manage', not the type that you can fix with surgery. While it is absolutely great to see him hit 2 HR this is the kind of thing that could bother him all year and just have good days and bad days. Or it could be something that isn't bothering him at all too, it is really hard to say at this point.
  21. Mota just walked one in for the Dodgers. Contreras has 6 BB for the White Sox. Washington+Atlanta have combined for 8 BB in 6 innings. The Reds have walked 6 so far in 6 innings Houston walked 5 in 5 innings The Mets have walked 6 through 7 innings KC walked 8 today I have seen 4 runners walked in with the bases loaded so far tonight and I missed the first half of the early games.
  22. But it isn't any different than other teams. I am watching a bunch of games right now and I just watched the Reds walk in a run and then flipped over and watched the Mets walk in back to back runs. People are walking players all over the place just like every single season in early april.
  23. This is no different than last year. I just watched as the Reds walked in a run, then I watched the Mets walk in back to back runs. April always has a ton of walks, especially the first couple weeks. 7 of 15 teams in the NL have walked over 4 batters per 9 innings at this point. The league as a whole has walked 765 hitters in just 7606 PA. This same exact thing happens every single season in April.
  24. This really is no different than last year early so not sure why everyone is making such a huge deal about it. pitchers walk a lot of guys in april, happens every year. Last season after 12 games we had 51 BB, this season we have 56 after 12 games. The pitchers will settle down come May and everything will go back to normal.
  25. Miller Park cost $400M. Pretty sure new yankee stadium was 1.5B if that makes you feel any worse!
