  1. If you personally dont' think he has improved there is no amount of proof I'm going to be able to give you to change your mind. I can accept that. If he puts up a 3rd year in a row of improved metrics and you still don't accept it you are probably just being pig headed about it though.
  2. You can usually point out why a pitcher is lucky though. Weeks 2007 was better than his 2008 too so we have 2 years where he was one of the worst in the game at 2B and two years where he was below average but not painfully so. There is no reason to think that 2 of the years data are any better than the other two and since I personally feel he has improved from watching him and since most players defense improves in those age ranges, I can safely say that in my eyes he is improving. When numbers, trends and "scouting" say the same thing you usually have a winner.
  3. Well you can never be 100% sure of anything. He is making fewer errors, his range metrics look significantly better, he looks better to my naked eye. There isn't much more that he can do to convince me he is getting better. You can disagree with my opinion but yeah I can conclude that his 2007+2008 defense is better than his 2005+2006, I can back it up with numbers and with empirical observation.
  4. Weeks was awful defensively in previous seasons but the last season or two he has improved quite a bit.
  5. You obviously haven't seen Towles try to hit major league pitching. This is a big upgrade for them and to be honest would have been an upgrade for us if we had signed him. Having said that the Astros still have 1.5 viable starters so I don't see them going anywhere without a lot of luck.
  6. Unfortunate to see Swindle go, we will have at least one RP who doesn't deserve to be on the team on the roster now.
  7. This Mexico vs Korea game is really good too. Been a lot of really good games in this thing.
  8. What they really forget is those were our #3 starters most years http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.
  9. His AVG, ISO, BB/K have been all over the place as well as his HR/FB. If we 'expect' the worst we have a .234 hitter who walks less than 8% of the time and has an ISO of only .125. If we expect the best we have a .279 hitter who walks 16% of the time with a very solid .198 ISO. The difference between those two lines are staggering. He is not an easy player to project at all. Even if you throw out 2006 and assume 2007/2008 are his 'level' you see hsi BB, K, ISO all over the place. Out of all the Brewers hitters he is the one I'm least comfortable projecting for this year. He could be an all star, he could be benched or anything in between.
  10. His last 3 years have all been extremely different, so hard for me to agree with this.
  11. Beltran is in tier 2 for me with guys like Carlos Lee. But yeah like someone else said this was about fantasy baseball. Doesn't matter how good they are in reality, just how good they are in the context of fantasy baseball and Beltrans AVG holds him back a bit as well as his age now.
  12. Trade Fielder, let Weeks walk when his contract is up, leave Braun where he is, move Gamel to 1B. That is the most like scenario for the 2011 season in my opinion. I hope they let Hart walk too since he refuses to walk which cuts into his value but probably won't cut into his paycheck.
  13. I'll add that my money is on Hardy beating that projections. His 2007 was slowed by the hip injury and his 2008 was slowed by him getting sick and losing 10 pounds right before the season started. He is just hitting his prime and if he can stay healthy all year I will agian be picking him as my breakout player of the year for the team. This is the year that Hardy gets the media attention as he flirts with 30 HR and that attention comes just in time to make him too valuable for us to sign long term. This was the offseason for us to buy out a year or two of FA, next year is too late.
  14. Not at all. We do not have a small market salary at all, we are mid range. We are in the same boat or better off than at least 50% of the teams in baseball. We just need to make smart choices instead of throwing money at every player we develop and at marginal free agents. Deals like we gave Suppan are just killers to a team like ours.
  15. I don't think anyone disagrees that $10.5M a year wasn't too much for Suppan. But I don't see what McClung has really done to suggest he'd be a better option in the rotation.
  16. Yeah I can agree with that. Suppan is older so he is probably slightly worse than his career ERA and with a mediocre infield behind him I'd probably expect him to sit at a 4.50-5.25 ERA or so. McClung is probably in that same 4.50-5.25 range as a starter.
  17. Well if that happens then hopefully DiFelice gets a chance because I like him more than McClung. But yeah I wouldn't worry much about spring training. If I'm worried about any pitcher it is Gallardo so far.
  18. I have Braun as my #1 because of Sizemore's average. Nobody else is really in the mix for discussion of top 2 except for those guys now that Holliday has changed teams.
  19. Lamb the last 3 years - 2006 $7.4M, 2007 - $5.9M, 2008 -.6M. 3 year average - $4.2M Counsell the last 3 years - 2006 $5.4M, 2007 $3.9M, 2008 $4.6M. 3 year average - $4.6M Over the last 3 years counsell has been as valuable as Lamb and plays more postions. I just don't see where Lamb makes the team over McGehee personally.
  20. When BPro talked about McGehee they said he doesn't really have a split. Minorleaguesplits shows a career .810 OPS vs LH and a .736 vs RH though last year it was a bit closer at .793 vs .767.
  21. Julio hasn't been decent since 2002. Can we just cut him please.
  22. If 2nd half Bush shows up all year and throwing mostly strikes Parra shows up all year this is going to be a very solid rotation.
  23. Escobar put his hand on the ball more in the minor league season last year than any major league SS did in a full 162 games. He really is supposed to be special defensively. Adam Everett comes to mind because I don't really think Escobar will be much of a hitter.
  24. Hardy is one of the 5 best SS in baseball right now, I wouldn't move if I were him either.
  25. I think the setup is kind of a joke, too many of the best players sit out and the timing is terrible. But I'm watching part of every game and most of every US game. So I'm enjoying it, I just think it could be done a lot better.
