  1. I'd love to see the NL add the DH. Watching a pitcher hit isn't fun baseball to me, taking out a pitcher because he comes up to bat in a key situation isn't fun baseball to me either. It adds a little bit more strategy but the loss of fun is just too high in my opinion.
  2. Statistical models showed that given the talent on that team he made the smart choice so I don't see what the big deal is.
  3. What lesson is that, drunk people say funny things? You honestly believe they went on to win 4 games in a row because of that one play?
  4. I think they were favorites in both series so its hard to make much of the comebacks. Maybe they underperformed the first 3 games and did what was expected the final 4, thats the big problem with 'clutch'.
  5. When Yost makes these mistakes every other game that ends up to 4 games significantly changed a year. Melvin obviously isn't very happy with the way Yost managed this season given his end of season statement so hopefully if Yost doesn't learn what he is doing by mid season we'll go with someone else. Obviously the best case scenario is Yost learns how to manage the in late games.
  6. How much of that being lost has to do with having a bulpen full of guys that are not really very good? Outside of Cordero and Shouse in the 2nd half, who was reliable? Yost did not use Cordero quite as well as he should have, but when your SP are not getting out of the 6th you are trying to cover 3 innings every night with only 2 quality guys. Linebrink pitched decently for the Brewers. Its not the results that bother me its the decisions. Mench hit against a righty with the game on the line, Aquino was put in a few times with the game on the line late while cordero was avialable. Yost used the bunt very poorly down the stretch, he continued to refuse to IBB guys to force better matchups and it cost the team. He had problems properly using pinch hitting to force better matchups late in the game. Pretty much from the 6th inning on I have no faith at all in Yost pushing the right buttons.
  7. I don't know about that, I've never watched a manager as lost out there as Yost was in the 2nd half of this season. He seems to be a good out of game manager though so that probably offsets a little bit of it at least.
  8. I really hope we dont' go out of our way to pick up empty AVG hitters like this becuase they are 'professional'. I want guys who will talk walks, that is hitting like a professional to me.
  9. ARod's series so far. 0/2 with 2 BB... good game especially since a serious AL CY contender. 0/4 with 4 K, rough game but against a good young pitcher that nobody on the team really got good AB's off of. 2/4 which is a good game. I fail to see how he is choking.
  10. Since he mentioned OBP before as well I assume he just means guys to get on base before the big bats. This team really could use a high OBP guy to bat either #1 or #2.
  11. If the yankees were all clobbering the ball and ARod was stinking you might have a point Geno but the entire team is hitting poorly. That says that most likely the pitchers are just doing a good job against them.
  12. And the 3rd best team in the NL West sweeps the 2nd best team in the NL Central to go on to the next round of the playoffs. Meanwhile the best team in the NL East who is better than both of them loses in the first round. What a strange season this is.
  13. The fact that his entire team struggled during that same stretch says to me they just ran into some really good pitching.
  14. There is one thing Brady does decently and that is get on base. He is one of the worst CF's in MLB and that is most likely why he lost his job, he let 2 and maybe 3 balls fall in for hits that an average CF gets to and that is just in the single tie breaker game. He is terrible in the field.
  15. It was certainly questionable on his part though Zambrano is a good hitter so letting him hit is different than letting someone else hit. That doesn't really compare to using Aquino to face Pence with the game on the line though, apples to oranges.
  16. The biggest difference without question was defense but yes the Cubs using their best RP in games that matter instead of sitting on the bench while Aquino lost the game was a big reason we lost the division. That of course is just bad bullpen usage by Yost more than anything else.
  17. to add to that point logan3825, how much has the shift helped or hurt the offense. It seemed like Yost used the shift on even marginal pull hitters instead of just the hardcore pull hitters and it didn't seem to have good results.
  18. Boston over Los Angeles (5) New York over Cleveland (4) Chicago over Arizona (3) Philadelphia over Colorado (5) Boston over New York (5) Philadelphia over Chicago (6) Boston over Philadelphia (6)
  19. But you can BB to 1st base and you can hit to 2B or for a run. If Weeks repeats this season year after year(over a full season of course) he'll be one of the better leadoff hitters in baseball regardless of his K's.
  20. Why exactly is that? If any player on my team is going to K Id' rather it be the leadoff hitter where it simply doesn't matter at all than any other slot in the order. This is one of those things I've never understood.
  21. maybe Koskie will come back! I think the only way Hall moves to 3B and Braun to LF is if we get a new manager. I don't see Yost pulling that move but a new manager could do it.
  22. CL - Cordero or Linebrink - We will re-sign one of them for this role. SU - Dunno SU - Dunno MR - Derrick Turnbow - I think he can be effective as long as you baby him. MR - Mitch Stetter - MR/LR - Manny Parra - With his injury history and the depth at SP I think he'll be in the bullpen. LOOGY - Brian Shouse - Probably the only no brainer in the bullpen. Rotation Ben Sheets Yovani Gallardo Carlos Villanueva Jeff Suppan Chris Capuano - The only question mark in the list, the other four are likely set in stone. I think we go with Capuano over Bush because of his potential shown in 2006 and the fact teams like to have one lefty in the rotation. I think we are going to have two gaping holes in the bullpen or even three if we let Cordoro and Linebrink walk. I have no clue who we will get to fill them but hopefully at least one of them is a groundball specialist.
  23. Capuano pitched no different than he did in 2005, if anything he was better its just people are using ERA and WHIP to judge pitchers which are poor stats. That being said he's still just a #4 guy who does have more than his fair share of problems the 3rd time through the order in his career (he has a trend of this unlike Bush). I'm fine with him as our #5 but I'm fine with Bush there as well.
  24. I think you are largely correct in your assessment though I highly doubt Parra is a starter next year. He's just had too many arm problems and they already will have enough youth in the rotation.
  25. The mets blew a much bigger lead than we did so they will be the team to talk about as chokers when thinking of this year, not us!
