  1. Team ERA was 4.44 with Estrada at C. 4.46 with Miller. That stat doesn't begin to tell the whole picture but it is the only one I had available to me.
  2. ESPN also posted their top 100 which only had 2 Brewers. La Porta - #37 Parra - #41 http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/columns/story?columnist=law_keith&id=3221365&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fmlb%2finsider%2fcolumns%2fstory%3fcolumnist%3dlaw_keith%26id%3d3221365
  3. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=7092 LaPorta came in at #31. Parra at #42 jeffres at #76 Somehow they messed up and didn't list Gwynn! There are a lot of Reds on the top half of that list, that team should be pretty good in the next few years. Soto and Vitters are only Cubs on it.
  4. I don't think the Diamondbacks were ever the favorites to most people. It is the media, they are just in it to get a reaction out of people so the article doesn't really bother me. The Brewers had a 12-25 stretch in late july through august and we choked away the division. Hopefully now that the young guys have been through a pennant race they won't repeat that next year and we'll play more like the .568 team we were the rest of the year.
  5. Yeah they did but not until Lo Duca hurt his knee so they had no other choice but to get another C who could play every day.
  6. Yes their record was a fact but that has nothing to do with their talent. I find it really funny that you posted that and then listed them as the 3rd best team in the division even though they most likely had the biggest offseason in the division.
  7. 1. Mets - Seems pretty obvious 2. Dodgers - This is a really good team if they let the younger guys play 3. Phillies - A lot depends on Lidge but this is still a good team. 4. Braves - Good lineup, ok pitching, strong bullpen. 5. Brewers - The cameron signing is biggest upgrade in the NL Central this season, the defensive rearrangement is worth 4-5 wins. 6. Rockies - Took a hot streak to sneak into the playoffs, I don't see a repeat. 7. Cubs - Soto won't be as good as people think, Fukudome will take some time to adjust, the rotation will regress. 8. Diamondbacks - This was a sub .500 team last year and even with the Haren upgrade they'll have problems competing in that division this year. 9. Padres - This team is on a downward trend. 10. Reds - I love the Reds young guys, they are the one team that could mature early and be 4-5 spots above where I pick them. 11. Astros - this is a really poorly built team with no long term future, this is a huge drop from #10 with the Reds having as hot at .500 and the Astros having a shot at 90 losses. 12. Marlins - meh 13. Giants - worst franchise in baseball when you take $$ into account and yes I think it is worse than Baltimore which is shocking. 14. Cardinals - They need to rebuild big time. 15. Nationals - No pitching 16. Pirates - small market + poorly run = bad results.
  8. If Capuano looks good in spring training I think he is very easy to move to some team. He has the all star game and 18 wins in his past etc which some teams go for. Bush and Vargas seem like harder sells to me.
  9. I'll take the opposite side, I'd rather watch the league that doesn't' have a guy who can't hit in the lineup every day (I HATE watching pitchers bat). As much as people complain about the Red Sox and Yankees I still prefer the league with them in it, they are sort of the bad guys you cheer against in a movie. The NL has become the NFL, so much mediocrity that it just isn't fun to watch random games anymore (ok not quite as bad as the NFL). Of course since I'm a Brewer fan I still pay much more attention to the NL since they are the games that matter more to me, I just think the AL is the more fun league.
  10. Cameron won't be on the 25 man because of the suspension. I agree that Parra starts the year in AAA unless we find a trade. Bush/Capuano actually have options but I can't see them going to the minors at this point unless it is Capuano going for 'rehab' to buy time on a trade.
  11. This topic is already ongoing at this link, might want to add to that one. http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=10529?page=1
  12. That is selling things a bit short, looking at minorleagueball.com. Gomez is still considered a B to B+ prospect where Gwynn is more of a C to C+. Mulvey is also considered a B prospect and Guerra a B+. It would be more like Gamel, Parra, Jeffers and we don't have another P that fits though Rogers would be it if he were healthy probably.
  13. I still don't like that rotation if Martinez gets hurt again which he very well might. It obviously is better than last year but I still don't think they are a lock for the division or anything. I don't know what the Twins were thinking unless the Red Sox/Yankees pulled their offers.
  14. yeah I'd rather have Shoppach. I do think Estrada is better than he played last year when fully healthy. I'm glad he isn't on our team again but I doubt he is as miserable at the plate as he was in the 2nd half last year.
  15. Davis wasn't exactly a good pitcher last year, an argument could be made that he would have been worse than Vargas with our bullpen/defense behind him.
  16. Why would we need another OF? Braun shouldn't be moved back to 3B and even if he is then what do you do with Hall? I just don't see the fit here.
  17. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080129&content_id=2358547&vkey=hotstove2007&fext=.jsp Thought they already had Estrada with a different name (Lo Duca). They claim it has nothing to do with Lo Duca's injury but I somehow doubt it.
  18. I would think this points to the fact that Yost doesn't know how to manage the bullpen more than anything. The reason RP's dont' let in 3+ runs very often is because most managers yank them before they are in a position to do that and then replace them with another good RP instead of someone like Spurling. That being said I'd rather have Howry than Turnbow any day of the week.
  19. Pie's #1 comp by age is Corey Patterson... I find that more than a little funny and I hope that is how Pie ultimately ends up playing out.
  20. Good. I'm not so worried about the Cubs getting Roberts if they have to trade pitching depth but if they picked up Bedard that is scary.
  21. All those years wasted with Mesa as the closer hurt too. Teams with nowhere to go should put a younger guy in at closer and auction him off to the highest bidder when they find one that works. The Pirates have been just poorly run for quite some time now.
  22. Definitely Cameron because he'll bring us 3 wins just on defense alone with the defensive switches.
  23. I don't think we have prospects that match up with what the Twins look for in a ball player. They highly value defense and all of our biggest hitting prospects are defensively challenged. They are a family value type of team so I doubt they go for Jeffress. I don't think a deal focused on Parra would be enough and we don't have very high end bargaining chips other than him that would fit into the Twins plans.
  24. I think getting swept would be more painful because of who we are facing, but if we only take 1 of 3 or win 2 of 3 it won't really be a big deal.
  25. I'd take Ramirez and move him to the OF most likely. Reyes had a 103 OPS+ last year, Ramirez had a 145 OPS+, that gap isn't going to be made up with Reyes' defense which is good but not great.
