  1. If Archer does well for the Pirates, they'll have a pretty good rotation and their offense picked up once a few guys got out of slumps. You mean once almost everyone on their team played way over their heads at the same exact time. Almost none of these guys are as good as they are playing right now, they are just all streaking together.
  2. I remember part of this forum thinking he was the backbone of the trade for some odd reason even though it was really clear he was the throw in at the time.
  3. The difference was that Gomez was a plus defender so you could excuse some of the other flaws. Villar is bad defensively so if he isn't working out elsewhere he has no value at all.
  4. Braves are insanely deep in the minors. Their #15 prospect would probably be the Cubs #1 and is probably similar to our #9 or so.
  5. Nope. We did something similar with Gallardo in the playoffs one year but that was because everyone else was hurt and we had no real choice. It would have to be a situation like that where Anderson and Chacin were both dealing with something for me to consider it.
  6. Agree to disagree Fangraphs has him as a 40 to use a 3rd party source, though that was going into this year. Not that he has done much to change that.
  7. You giving him a $17M QO? If he plays anywhere close to what he did in 2017 of course you are. He has been a 6.7 WAR player over the past 2.5 years. That is certainly worth a QO.
  8. Dozier will be a free agent at the end of the season. Schoop has 6 times as long a contract as Dozier at this point. That probably played a role in things. You cannot go into 2019 relying on a rookie with no backup plan either.
  9. I don't think this is going to be Schoop playing SS like people suggest, at least not every day. It is going to be mixing and matching a lot at 2B and 3B and some SS. Probably see Shaw sit some early because he has been banged up lately.
  10. Thought all that stuff had to be done by the deadline? It does need to be done.
  11. I think Archer is better than his stats suggest and that some of what he is doing lately is for real as he seems to be developing the change up he needs so badly. I still don't think I'd put Hiura in the deal.
  12. A if the pitchers name is DeGrom. C for the rest including Thor who is a total no go for me.
  13. Just the Pirates overreacting to a hot streak. The will sell him off this time next year and recoup a lot of his value.
  14. Not sure what the Sox gave up but this is a good fit. They really needed a 2B of some type and didn't need to be a total power house offensive player.
  15. The most classic issue with young pitchers is pitch count so this really isn't a Peralta thing.
  16. He is a guy who doesn't have all that good of stuff but has great extension and is great at hiding the ball. These types of pitchers tend to find it hard to find success long term. He loses the extension when he has to pitch out of the stretch and that is when he really starts to get into trouble. This means he will likely be inconsistent as games where he can keep runners off he can be dominant but when he doesn't have his good stuff and he is putting guys on he is going to get hit hard. Whether we trade him or keep him just depends on the Brewers scouts and whether they believe they can fix these problems.
  17. Lets be real here, it is Counsell's fault when this happens.
  18. Nationals made it clear that Harper is available...
  19. Not if you are playing into October. October? I didn't think we have any regular season games scheduled past September. He wouldn't be stretched out enough to start and he wouldn't get the work in to really be trusted in the bullpen. Sure there is a small chance he helps the team somehow but to be realistic you cannot count on him for anything at all this season. Most likely he is not going to help the team until 2019.
  20. I see the Cards are open to trading Jose Martinez, he could be a nice upgrade at SS.
  21. Yeah because so many NL teams have no holes on the team. Nobody says this is a perfect team, it is not a perfect team, it doesn't need to be a perfect team, no team it is directly completing against is anywhere close to a perfect team.
  22. Well don't get me wrong here, I don't blame the Cubs for what they did. I have just been saying for 2 years now that the Cubs are no longer the super team they looked like and I have caught a ton of flack for it. They are a top tier team competing with other top tier teams in the NL but they are not a stand out at this point.
  23. Silly? Silly is your condescending post. Many guys have went into the derby (which I didn’t even mention) and come back ice cold. I was more so mentioning being an all star because he’s probably needed a break. He’s a big guy that could’ve probably used 2-3 days off. Not only that but those all star things can be a distraction, especially if you’ve never dealt with it before. Is that the reason his swing and approach all of a sudden looks sloppy? I don’t know for sure but it sure could be a factor in it. It’s as good a reason as any. Along with the fact that he’s probably not the Babe and is regressing towards who he truly is as a hitter. Many guys go into the derby and come back hot. Many guys go into the all star game and come out hot or cold. Many guys get the all star break off and then come back hot or cold. If Aguilar were hot right now people wouldn't' be blaming it on the all star game. If he hasn't participated and was cold people wouldn't be blaming it. There is absolutely no proof that the HR derby had anything to do with what is happening now and assigning blame to it is just throwing out random conjecture to fit the story you want to tell.
  24. Why though? He couldn't beat it last year when there wasn't competition on the market and he isn't having as good a season this year. I could easily see him not get the deal he wants and I could easily see him being spooked by what happened last year and just taking the 1 more year in a hitters park to prove himself. Assuming we wanted the option.
  25. I mean, 1 day off, sure, but the guy is still OPSing like .950. And that’s great but he just doesn’t look right. His last whole month he is batting .214 and in his last two weeks he is ops’ing about .530 The all star nomination might’ve done more harm than good with him. This is cool and all as long as you realize how silly it is? Baseball is so darn streaky that trying to pin a good stretch or bad stretch on something like this is completely worthless. Since the HR derby Harper and Hoskins have been hot, it doesn't mean the HR derby fixed those guys and wrecked Aguilar. That is trying to fit the story to the results and nothing more.
