If Braun clears waiver he has a lot of value if we agree to eat some of his contract since so few impact players are available that late in the season.

To be fair I don't think Arcia will sign a long term contract with the Brewers. The way Stearns likes to load up on athletic middle of the field players i think we will always have a SS of the future in waiting and Arcia will be traded down the line. I'd just like that trade to come a year later than it might now.

If those are really the 4 choices for PTBNL I'm happy with this trade. My perfect playoff scenario is now the Giants beat the Cubs with Will Smith saving a few games and then they lose to the Rangers in the World Series.

Guy is struggling at AAA why call him up early. This is a move simply to appease fans who are sore from us trading other players.

If the PTBNL was a good prospect I'd have been 100% fine with this deal. It is the Jeffress straight up for the other guy that is my hiccup.

If the final selection is a another top prospect I'm fine with this deal, it seems pretty fair. If it is some lottery ticket guy I think we got a little bit too little. Regardless I think the days deals combined were overall a plus.

I agree that it seems a little light unless the PTBNL is a real prospect. The two trades today combined looks very reasonable though. Overall I feel the organization is in a really good spot for the start of the rebuild.

It is really hard to trade a player in the last year of their contract. For a player of his quality you likely have to find a team willing to sign him long term. It isn't impossible but he loses a ton of value if he isn't traded today.

Peter Gammons just said the Indians organization considered Mejia to be their best prospect. Just found that interesting considering how down on the trade many were.

If Lucroy is worth $1 today he is worth $0.75 at the end of the year and $0.50 after game 1 of next year. It might not be the end of the world but it is a big deal.

We all want the same thing, first and foremost a contending major league club, as well as a solid farm system to create consistency in the years to follow. Fact is, the Brewers club from top to bottom was in shambles because since 2012 they focused on the MLB team while the farm system fell apart. not trading guys at peak value for the sake of "going for it" with a mediocre team, free agent contracts to aging pitchers, poor drafting and developing, etc. That is why we are in this mess to begin with. If the Brewers could put a legit contender on the field next year, of course they would. But realistically it is going to take 2-3 years to assemble enough talent to put together an MLB contender. This MLB club is not 1 or 2 players away from contending, and the we do not have the resources - financially or in prospects - for the number and quality of guys that would get us there without mortgaging the future in spectacular fashion. We all want to win now or next year, but most realize that is simply unrealistic and prefer a higher chance at competing - and doing so consistently - in a few years above a short-sighted win-now approach that would likely lead to more mediocre non-playoff teams and a wasteland of a farm system with a bleak future. This is kind of a joke, right? Two short years ago, the Brewers led the division the entire year until a late collapse. Last year, Lohse and Garza were inexplicably horrible and Lucroy got hurt. This year, we are supposed to be terrible, yet keep finding ways to sweep teams like the Pirates despite pitching Chase Anderson and the aforementioned Garza for the weekend and sitting the only two established sticks on the roster (who we would love to trade). I thought Melvin was a great GM, as the last 10 years were light years more fun than the previous 15 years. That was not a "tiny window where we hope to get lucky"--that was 10 years of meaningful games in August and September. How many meaningful August and September games are being played by the Rays and Athletics and Twins this year? Admittedly--I am being a bit of a contrarian, but this site seems a little bit out if balance. no you are completely correct. Those saying a rebuild was in order in 2012 are relying on hindsight being 20/20. We didn't know Braun would be suspended, we didn't know that a ton of key players would underperform or get hurt. There was no reason to consider the 2012 or 2013 team to be teams that couldn't make the playoffs, the 2014 team was a wait and see type of team and they got off to a great start so it made little sense to rebuild, The 2015 team is debateable at least but we went into it trading one of our best pitchers so it felt like it was already a rebuild season.

I don't specifically want a C. I just think Mejia is a good defensive C who also may be a very good hitter and those are rare. Gallo has one skill and everything else is a flaw, players like that flame out way too much for my tastes.

My money is on Mejia having a better career than Gallo. Hope they go with a different headliner if it happens.

Nobody cares about average anymore so he was posting the more important stats, especially for a player like Branyan.

My wife actually told me she was sad this morning because her boyfriend was traded. I somehow hadn't found out about it yet. Her and some of her friends all think he is hot. You can trade Lucroy without getting a teams top prospect. He doesn't have to get Gallo.

Rangers are back in on Lucroy so maybe something happens today.

Mlb network just said they are going to talk to lucroy about the veto next. edit: he didn't really say anything useful. He is thinking long term for what is best for his family.

A comp pick would be a disaster. No way it is remotely close to the value of this package.

I expect that 5 years from now we regret the fact that Lucroy turns down this trade. His value is only going to go down.

So that's the plan? Winning in 2021? Where do I get my World Series tickets? I love how the Brewers have snowed fans into actually believing they can target within a year when to a. try to start winning and b. actually winning so they can accept abject failure in the interim. Sports don't work that way. There's front offices in Chicago, St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati who are all working to prevent that from happening and in 3 of the 4 spots, they have better track records than the Brewers' front office. Put a major league quality team on the field and develop the talent below that better. If you do your job, eventually you'll win. Predicting when that will be is fool's gold. What a pleasant chap you are. You must be a blast at parties. I never stated a specific year, I specifically said 3 years minimum. It is just how rebuilds have historically worked, the turnaround takes at least 3 years. Sometimes it takes way more than that.

I don't see any reason to call up any of these guys until September. Arcia hasn't shown me much in AAA for a top prospect. His BB rate is improving some though which is a good sign.

I really like what Stearn's has done so far. It is too early to see the results of the trades but I think that is a bad way to look at things anyway. The process can be great and still have bad results it doesn't make the process bad.

I would expect 3 years minimum before we start thinking about winning as the goal and then probably another 2 years after that to actually achieve the goal. The team absolutely should be targeting younger players, not those close to the majors.

Garza is nowhere near the worst pitcher in baseball over this period. He isn't in the bottom 45 pitchers in WAR and there are 2 different Brewers who have been worse over this time frame. There are at least 10 pitchers who make way more than he does who have been worse in the past 2 years.

All star break makes all kids of weird things happen, this is not a big deal.
