  1. Dickerson actually has a career .273 BA vs. RHP. Link This is Bill James we're talking about, but he did project Dickerson at .271/.363/.422 in a limited role for 2011. I'd agree that Gomez wouldn't be an ideal platoon mate as his offense is just well, offensive.
  2. Huh? I thought Dickerson was supposed to be a great CFer and lacking a little when put in a corner spot.
  3. A commenter on MLBTR brought up the Braves and someone else mentioned Brandon Beachy. His minor league numbers look fantastic and he spent time in AAA last year so he seems to be MLB ready.
  4. Woah. Who are we targeting here? Link 1Link 2
  5. Thanks for the input DOA!
  6. I have a few questions regarding the job application process and I'm reading some contradicting things on the web (surprise!) so I thought I'd see if anyone here has any advice. The job I am applying for requires that an application be filled out and a résumé may be included as well. 1. They give the option of mailing, faxing or emailing the application. Is it safe to assume that email is the preferred way to receive applications these days? I've filled out the application using Adobe Acrobat. I'm definitely going to include my resume and write a cover letter too. Should I convert the cover letter and résumé to a PDF and send them 1 file (the cover letter, followed by the application, followed by my resume)? Or should the cover letter be written in the email with the application and resume attached as a PDF? 2. It's unclear to me whom I should be addressing in the cover letter. The application is to be sent to HR. I'm not writing to HR, right? The job description says the successful candidate will report to the "Program Manager", but there are two Program Managers in the office. Is, "Dear Program Manager" appropriate? 3. Is it OK to include personal information in the cover letter? I live in Illinois, but the job is in Wisconsin. I was thinking it would make sense to mention that my fiancée and I are originally from Wisconsin and are looking at moving back to be closer to our families. That way they have no qualms about interviewing an out-of-stater. 4. References. When I got my current job 5 years ago my references were my academic adviser (I had just graduated), a boss I had at an internship one year prior and a family friend. I would like to continue to use my academic adviser and two co-workers who are in supervisory positions slightly above me. Is it acceptable to just put, "references available upon request"? I don't want my current employers contacted as they do not know I'm job hunting. They don't ask for references on the required job application, but I usually put them on my résumé. Sorry, these questions all seem kind of basic, but I'm a firm believer in making the best first impression I can. Thanks!
  7. Yeah, the Royals could ask for the moon and Melvin might have to give up Lawrie and one of Odorizzi/Jeffress plus 2 lesser prospects to get a deal done. Then I'm not so sure about going for broke in 2011. Glad I'm not the GM!
  8. To me that is exciting as it means we'll almost certainly be involved in a big trade for a pitcher in order to seriously contend in 2011. If we go get Greinke or someone near his caliber, I really like our chances in 2011. If everything goes wrong, we might be able to get a better return at the trade deadline for Prince. Then if its clear we need to re-build we can trade Greinke (or other aquired pitcher) before he hits free agency to to replenish the system.
  9. Yeah, I was pretty sure Latos would be asking for too much. Simon Castro sounds like a good fit. Top prospect for top prospect. The Pads need bats and we need pitching. And yes, getting a Weeks signing done first would be ideal.
  10. I'd say start here, and if talks fall apart, then offer Lawrie. If they're looking for athleticism, then Farris would fit the bill for them. But it sounds like the Padres are after Lawrie and may not have interest in Farris. I think Rosenthall mentions Farris to show that the Brewers have depth at the position and that's why the Crew might be willing to deal Lawrie. I'm always bad at lining up players for a trade, but is Latos asking for too much in a Lawrie trade? Clayton Richard doesn't see like enough, but I don't what kind of arms the Padres have in their system either.
  11. Kind of embarrassing, but how do you pronounce "Roenicke"?
  12. iTunes won't allow you to just synch the music from your iPod onto your computer, but there are several programs that will rip your music from your iPod to your iTunes and many of them are free. The one I use is called CopyTrans.
  13. Find a headhunter. When my sister moved to Seattle with no job she went to a headhunter and they got her a job as a paralegal which was fine until she found something in her field.
  14. It seems that Fox is only broadcasting their sports in some sort of widescreen-only format. The scores are kept in the upper left hand corner of the screen and they get cut off for both the MLB playoffs and the NFL on my standard TV. It bugs me that I have to track the scores on-line and watch the game on TV. And yes, I sent an email to Fox Sports regarding my complaint.
  15. Baseball Reference has runs allowed by inning, but I'm not sure if you can easily compare them league-wide. The worst innings grouping for the 2010 Brewers is innings 4-6, but that's a little misleading since the 5th is their 3rd best inning while the 6th and 4th are their worst and 3rd worst respectively. It might be better to identify the pitchers you feel are "back end starters" and look their career splits by inning. (Fun fact: Dave Bush has a career 1st inning ERA of 7.00) Baseball Reference link
  16. Wow, I guess I should have given The League a longer leash. It started off really dumb and cliched so I turned it once they started racing through airport security. I'll have to give it another chance. I watched most of them last year though I wasn't that impressed then either.
  17. Anyone else pretty disappointed in "Sunny" last night? Coors Light, Subway and Seattle's Best coffee product placements all in the first couple of minutes. That was strange. And the show just wasn't as edgy. Was not laughing constantly through the show like I normally do.
  18. Thanks OldSchoolSnapper! I sent you payment and a PM with order details for 2 jerseys.
  19. Are you volunteering to organize this TracyThom? Much appreciation if so. I'd be interested in four, possibly more jerseys if so.
  20. Even if he needs Tommy John isn't it worth it to sign him at $500K and hope he recovers fully? I believe the labrum tear is more worrisome, correct? That injury sounds more career-threatening. I would imagine that 29 teams will be kicking the tires.
  21. Anyone else going to the 2 game series in St. Louis next week (August 17th and 18th)? I have free tickets to both games. The Cardinals had a promo during a recent home stand. During the 9 game game home stand they took $5 off the price of tickets for every win. They won 8 of 9 so tickets $40 and under were free. A co-worker got tickets for Tuesday's game. I'll be going with 2 Cardinal fans and a Cubs fan. Yuck! My fiance was able to snag tickets for Wednesday's game in a luxury suite from a client at work. I've never attended a sporting event in a luxury suite, but look forward to keeping it classy with the classiest fans in MLB! Hopefully the Brewers play spoiler next week. Go Crew! I don't know St. Louis that well, but one place I'd recommend is Schlafly Brewery. It's a little too far from the stadium to walk I think, but their beer is decent enough and the food is always good.
  22. Five of the six baseball division races are within 2.5 games or less. Could be some fun races down the stretch.
  23. Huston Street named his son Ripken Ray. Ripken Street. That's awful.
  24. Fangraphs gives their take, here. The last paragraph (last sentence, really) sums it up for me on why this is an obvious no-brainer win for the Crew.
