  1. Furcal has the same agent as free agent......wait for it......Aramis Ramirez. AHHHHH!
  2. I didn't have any experience in home improvement projects before we bought our home either, but I've done a couple of light fixtures. Being that your house is quite old, you might have knob and tube wiring. I would watch a few instructional Youtube videos on how it's done and see where your confidence is after that. Also, ask friends. Someone might be more than happy to lend you a hand. Electricians charge around $75-100 an hour so it could add up if your doing three fixtures.
  3. Anybody still watching? I've opted for football every Sunday night, but am starting to get caught up on Season 2 via OnDemand. I've watched the first two episodes. I actually like it a lot more than I did in Season 1. I'm starting to actually care for the characters some.
  4. I saw your post a couple weeks ago. I was heading to my grandpa's shack in northern Wisconsin the following week so I thought it would be appropriate to read. I couldn't put it down and finished it up before I even got North (and considering it's a thriller, it's a good thing I finished it before I was up there). Fantastic read.
  5. Lowe had good peripherals last year (his FIP and x-FIP falling in line with his career numbers) and has been a valuable back-end rotation starter. To pay $10 million for a guy just to go away and only get back someone who is at best a LOOGY isn't that impressive to me. The Braves have younger, better options though and the extra $5 million will obviously help them elsewhere, but I think Cleveland did pretty well here.
  6. But it was once again ruined by NBC showing the clip on previews throughout the week. I'll keep watching, but I don't expect much anymore. Jim wrote an entire book on throwing a garden party just to make Dwight look like an idiot? Really? We're supposed to believe that this could really happen? Things don't have to be entirely believable, but I found this concept just preposterous and couldn't get over it which probably ruined any chance of me enjoying this one. Robert California is great. I wish they would have just let him take over for Michael at least for a year. Community is always hit-or-miss for me because if I don't get the joke that week it all goes over my head. This last episode was probably my favorite of all time.
  7. None of these are THAT historic or anything, but they stick out to me. In chronological order : June 25th, 2005 vs. the Twins. The Brewers scored 6 runs off of Johan Santana and Rickie Weeks and Prince Fielder hit their first career HRs in a 7-6 victory. April 22nd, 2006 vs. the Reds. Bill Hall, Damian Miller, Brady Clark, J.J. Hardy and Prince Fielder all homered in the fourth inning. I was with my parents - my mom, a casual fan at the time, thought it was a good time to mosey around the ball park. She missed all five homers. September 6th, 2008 vs. the Padres. Ben Sheets out-dueled Jake Peavy in a 1-0 complete game shutout. My friends and I were out at Mader's (I think?) later that night and Sheets was there at the bar with a lady friend, playing one of those touchscreen bar games ALL NIGHT. We tried to buy him drinks, but he politely refused and obviously just wanted to be left alone. Several Padres players showed up too, including Mike Adams.
  8. LINK Looks like it's a beefed up MLB.TV with the big difference being NO BLACKOUTS. At $4, I think I might buy this just to watch Sunday's game AND the Packer game at the same time. Not sure if it works with the At Bat mobile app, but I doubt that it does because I'm sure they'd mention it in the demo if it did.
  9. Well, you're right, they don't need to be made yet, but hopefully before game time tonight. I'd argue that we need pinch hitters and more double-switch flexibility than we need a 13th pitcher. Agree? Those minor leaguers will be sitting on the bench in less than a week anyway. Their development won't be hampered by being up a few days early.
  10. This is exactly what they do in college football and it is at least 5-10 minutes each time. The reason is that if someone is held accountable for the call, and if he gets it wrong it will be shown on ESPN for days, he is going to take his sweet time watching every angle and making sure it is correct. Each replay at the college football level and NFL average 3 minutes. The NFL averages slightly more than 1 review per game. I can't find the number for NCAA. The length of a baseball game has actually been shortened over the last 11 years by 6-8 minutes. MLB pressured umps to speed things up a while back. LINK Think how much time is used when a manager, player or bench coach comes out to dispute a call? Instead of arguing with the ump for a couple minutes, the ump could just refer to the replay official and solve the problem that way.
  11. Nothing like Brewers baseball in the morning! Go get 'em Crew!
  12. Animal Collective's Strawberry Jam
  13. That's interesting, especially because I'm pretty sure I read a "vote of confidence" quote from Ricketts within the last month. It's pretty crooked to claim a guy will still be working for you next year when you've already fired him. I think it was around two months ago when Ricketts made the "Hendry is my GM" type of comment that was viewed as a "vote of confidence" type of comment. That scared the crap out of Cubs fans obviously. Earlier in the week, Ricketts announced that he would have a press conference in the near future and he would give his vision of the Cubs future. The general consensus was that if he wasn't announcing Hendry's termination, that Hendry's job was pretty much safe for 2012. Cubs fans got their wish. There was a lot of talk the radio in the last week about how anit-sabermetric Hendry was. He took his hate of "Moneyball" to a pretty far extreme in that he made it known that he didn't like walks and made that known to the kids in the minors too. He may have screwed up that system for a while (one can only hope!). FYI, The Cubs are last in baseball in BB%, while Yanks and Red Sox lead baseball in BB%. edit: They also noted on the radio that all of the Cubs minor league teams were either last or 2nd to 3rd from last in BBs in their respective leagues. That would be pretty concerning to me.
  14. Hendry was notified a month ago he'd be let go, but Rickett's allowed him GM the team through the trade deadline and sign 2011 draft picks. Kind of strange in my opinion. Might explain Hendry's inactivity at the deadline. What was his motivation?
  15. I think that's what we'll end up doing. In the past we've gotten nice tax returns, but nothing so large that I've monkeyed with my withholdings before. I'd hate to owe money on tax day and with the significant decrease in our withholdings, it might be close. I still plan on running an estimate of our total taxes when time permits just to be sure. Thanks for all the advice.
  16. Well, Kershaw has pitched better at home this year. So there's that. How 'bout an offensive outburst today? Go get 'em Crew!
  17. No, we have a tax preparer do our taxes, but I have all the paper work. I guess I'll have to pull last years paper work, find our itemized deductions (2011's should be similar), determine our projected taxable income, look up 2011 tax tables and see what we should be withholding. Agree? Thanks!
  18. Pre-marriage, my W-4 tax marital status was "single" (obviously) and I claimed "0" federal allowances. I got married 5 weeks ago, changed my tax marital status on my W-4 to "married", but left a "0" for federal allowances. My wife did the same. We plan on filing jointly. Anyway, we noticed that on both of our most recent earnings statements federal witholdings were reduced by about 30%. Is this just because married couples get some kind of tax reduction? I just don't want to owe money come tax time next year. I know this is the type of question I should be asking the payroll department, but that answer could take weeks to get and I bet BF.net answers this for me in less than a day!
  19. Nah he's been there. He was there last night. I thought I was the only one! They'll show that shot and I'll see The Doorman and a few people to the left is this man around DM's age with a classic DM 'stache. He always fools me and I always think it's Melvin. Then I realize that DM wouldn't wear a plain T-shirt to a game and he would probably sit with Mark A or in his seats.
  20. Umm.....Awesome!
  21. I always give a card with a present unless it's Christmas. But there's no way that kids care about cards. I remember pretending to read the card so I could get to opening that mysterious box ASAP! So, make the kid happy and skip the card, or make your mom happy and buy a card.
  22. I have no complaints with that lineup. Other than the on-going annoyance that Jon Luc should be hitting higher in the order, but that's something I've accepted at this point in the season.
