  1. I haven't seen this posted here yet, but Baseball Prospectus has a nice collection and run-down of the events that have transpired. LINK Of note:
  2. Didn't he make something like 11 or 12 million last year? I doubt he's taking a cut. He had a pretty decent year at the plate. He made over $14 million last year, and turned down a player option to make $16 million to stay with the Cubs for another year.
  3. Yup. Let's just hope there's no 4th year option/buyout. I'm guessing it's closer to $36 million.
  4. This is a like a bad, bad dream. It doesn't look good for Ryan, but I hope he's in the right. Can't say I feel great about that being the case however.
  5. While the Christmas episode wasn't very original, I actually laughed quite a bit throughout this episode. Kinda nice to not have Pam around. I'm really starting to get into Community. It took me awhile to "get" the humor, but I enjoy it quite a bit now. I've never even watched an episode of Glee last night, but I was quite impressed with last night's parody. Love Abed and Troy rapping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1X6hG2u89xk
  6. Does anyone else feel "icky" for advocating or getting excited about signing ARam? Behind Pujols and Yadi, ARam is/was my least favorite player in MLB. Still hard to wrap my head around the idea of cheering FOR him. I do think his bat would go a long ways in improving the offense once Prince signs elsewhere, but it just feels so wrong to want him.
  7. A deal has to be right for the player too. Prince has already gambled once - playing out his contract with the Brewers hoping to avoid injury to hit the free agent market in his prime. $90 million is a nice chunk of change, but no one can expect him to leave $60-100 million on the table to try and time the market just right three years from now.
  8. I'm a little scared that the Brewers could sign Theriot (assuming he gets non-tendered), although you'd hope they'd sign someone that can play respectably at SS. Is Orlando Cabrera toast? I see had just a terrible year last year. Was he hurt or is he just old?
  9. If there were a team out there willing to give him that, Boras would have found them already. Plus, I don't think you can sign and trade players like that in MLB (other than arby deals). I suspect DM will sign a cheap SS (Yuni or Gonzalez), an even cheaper utility man, and basically call it an off-season. We'll have a strong rotation and bullpen and if Gamel and McGehee can produce we should be in decent shape. Those are some HUGE "ifs" though.
  10. While I agree that the Angels will almost certainly have to trade either Morales or Trumbo, I don't think the Brewers will get involved. We have more pressing needs in my opinion (shortstop). It's looking like this off-season will really lack the big splash that last off-season had. With Gamel, McGehee and Green in the mix, we have a decent amount of flexibility at the infield corner positions.
  11. Finally some good news this off-season. So long Albert. The best thing is, playing on the west coast, ESPN can ignore him and we never have to hear about him! Oh wait, they have LA studios now...
  12. Scott: Yeah, Hi Doug, Scott here. Listen, the market for Prince hasn't really gained any steam yet. I'd like ask for the opportunity to try and convince you that you have a chance at retaining Prince, but am really just hoping you could throw an offer out there that I could shop around to someone else.
  13. ARam, Yuni, Weeks and McGehee/Gamel (at first base).....That infield defense could be epically bad. We have no idea how McGehee and Gamel are at first, but man that's scary. Now that it sounds like Rollins is no longer an option, I'm afraid our big signing will be ARam (he's an OK player, I just really despise him). I hope we at least sign Alex Gonzalez over Yuni to play short to improve the defense. Though I'd still prefer trading for Bartlett.
  14. It might make the most sense financially for KRod to accept Arby's, but I think he really wants to close and his ego will get in the way.
  15. Stewart has had some modicum of success in 3/4 years in MLB. Taylor has 37 MLB PAs. They play 3B and are left handed which makes them a little redundant, but they aren't that similar otherwise. I've always liked Stewart, but given our in-house options at 3B, I doubt we'll take a shot at a reclamation project unless he's non-tendered and given a minor league contract.
  16. Well, throwing out 2011 because he was just truly awful every time he stepped to the plate... 2010: Home OPS of .757, Road OPS of .802 2009: Home OPS of .824, Road OPS of .748 With McGehee, Green and possibly Hairston in the mix at 3B, I admit that taking a chance on Stewart is probably not a priority for DM right now.
  17. Rockies asking for Blake DeWitt from the Cubs for Ian Stewart. If true, I can't really see the Cubs turning that down. I'd still like to take a chance on Stewart. Do they have a blocked SS prospect we could work into a deal at all? http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_19453415
  18. Wouldn't Appleton to Schaumburg be closer to a 3 hour drive (185 miles)? Round-trip gas would probably be around $75. To save hundreds of dollars on shipping or more expensive shelves, I think you should probably suck it up and do the drive. Maybe break up the drive by doing some Christmas shopping or ton of other things in Chicago. Of course, this all assumes you have a vehicle that can fit these shelves.
  19. Theo Epstein has enjoyed a god-like omnipotence since arriving in Chicago. It only makes sense that his first signing as the savior of Da Cubs is Da Jesus [sic].
  20. His bat is about the same as Yuni's, but it looks like defensive metrics like him. But, like you said, he will be 35. I'd be underwhelmed, but at $1.5-2.0 million a year, I guess I'd rather have him than YuBet.
  21. Gotcha, thanks. We should be probably hearing some comments from DM soon about offering to KRod/Yuni. I predict Yes/No. We don't want Yuni to Graffanino us!
  22. When do teams have to offer free agents arbitration by? Is it December 1st every year? It seems strange that Type A free agents can sign before that date. For instance, does Boston automatically get compensation from the Phils for Papelbon?
  23. I agree. Unless it comes down to money and he just can't afford to spend any (I think Yuni will be lucky to get 1 year, $2M), I think we'll end up either Reyes, Rollins, Furcal or Barmes. I'd be disappointed if we didn't get one of those guys really (more likely to be Furcal or Barmes). DM has made SS a priority to start the hot stove season so I think he finds an upgrade there. I don't think we've heard any Bartlett rumors yet, but that wouldn't surprise me either.
