  1. Hey Mr. Gott, if you could go ahead and be this year's discovered gem we would all just be tickled. thanks much.
  2. This is a random thought. I'd be curious what the rate of 3 sports high school athletes are in the colder climates vs the warmer ones. I am making this up, but it would make sense that the further south you go, the easier it is to access year round competition in a sport if you are wanting to specialize. Up here in the cold, you have to go south to play any kind of competitive baseball past October or before April. I wonder if there is a correlation.

  4. I think the point is that the author made it seem like we will have a long long time to wait for a WI kid to be on our mound again and, as pointed out, we have a AAA arm currently in the system. So 'long time' in reality could be a flu bug in the clubhouse next week.

  6. Wisconsin only has one D1 collegiate baseball program in the state, at UW-Milwaukee. That shouldn't be overlooked... even our best in state talent has to get recruited out of state if they want to develop. There are a few dozen D3 kids from Wisconsin college floating around the high minors and a dozen or so in the last decade that have made the big leagues... but it matters when you don't have D1 schools to recruit and develop your in state talent that wasn't highly recruited out of high school.

  8. Hey, it is nice to be watching the Yelich that goes 1-4 on the day and his average goes DOWN.
  9. Guy who was a sub 3 ERA for us last year has shaky command in his first appearance on a chilly day in Chicago on opening day.... "Can't use him". Man it is good to be back to baseball season!
  10. Really tough spot for Caratini to be. He probably hasn't met any of these guys he is catching right now, much less seen how their pitches move. Definitely not his fault and it is the job ... but he has been off frame on the corners and it has helped the squeeze of the zone.
  11. Is McCutcheon a habitual first pitch swinger? As noted on the broadcast, he has swung 1st pitch 3 of 4 today.
  12. Golly, that is a tough ball to tag on. Happ must have had a tough read on that because you shouldn't score on that ball. Also, kind of a gross at bat from Yelich, Got him in though.
  13. I am a nobody so my opinion is trash, but I agree. I think folks would be surprised how many moves are made within an organization simply to protect the development of the teams Top 20 prospects, both on the MLB and MiLB levels. If a team acquires a AA 2B who has a career .206 BA, the fans lose their minds because this guy is a nobody and will never sniff the big leagues... In reality, I don't think the parent club cares if he hits .065 or .465. They just don't want to move the prospect in A ball too fast so this guy is a warm body that can cover the position for 3 months. Things like that. So in this case, we lose our backup catcher and we need Mario to get playing time at the AAA level so move(s) needed to be made. Had to fix the situation. Well done.
  14. Jenkins gives up a 2r single to his first batter, both credited to Boushley. Caleb Ends up with 4ER on the record, a little tough luck. He pitched better than that. Durham up 4-1.
  15. Boushley out after 4.1. A little tough luck in the 5th and we will see if it runs his numbers up here to finish the inning. 4.1, 5h, 2bb, 4k, 2ER and is responsible for the runners on 2nd and 3rd. 1 out walk in the inning and then Brujan hit a one hopper that ate up Mathias and trickled into right, it was scored (rightfully I believe) a base hit. Next batter swung at the first pitch and put it in the left center gap to score one. Boushley gave up 5 hits, 3 of them to Brujan. Durham up 2-1.
  16. 1-1 through 4. Sounds only have one hit but it is another Singleton home run. Ceiling scraper to center that just got out over the wall. Boushley getting a lot of weak contact. A couple of flair singles to left from lefties and the one solid hit thus far was a double to right center from Brujan, who I think is a top 75 prospect in all of baseball. 3k's, 1bb, 3h and 62 pitches through 4 so far for Caleb.
  17. I believe Boushley is getting the start tonight for Nash. Rule 5 acquisition.
  18. I don't know if this is possible - but we used to have a Brewers live pop out game chat somewhere here. It was honestly the funniest part of BFNet when we had it. It got toxic as always when things weren't going our way ... but man do we have some witty people on this board and I was in there way to often enjoying the chatter. Can anyone help me with what that exactly was and why it went away?
  19. Do you want the Brewers to acquire a high priced SS this offseason yet or are we ok there?
  20. You've said this in a few different spots now. What contract would you give Castellanos right now? Why hasn't he signed yet with someone? Do you think he wants to come to Milwaukee? If you are giving this guy $20+ million a season for over 5 years which is what he is asking for to run our payroll more than 10% higher than it has ever been.. he better win us a world series. Because if he hits .270 this year and only hits 20 Hr's and you could have gotten the same production from a guy like 'Cutch for 40% of the price without the longevity risk... you are fired as the GM.
  21. I mean, I would love for him to hit .285 with 25Hrs as much as the next guy but I think we have to have realistic expectations of what he is being brought in to do. Kris Bryant just signed a 7 yr bazillion dollar contract with the Rockies and I think .285 with 25hrs is more or less where he is going to end up (maybe inflate a touch more with the Denver air). 8.5 mil for 'Cutch at this stage in his career... we are asking him to upgrade the offensive production that we got from Hiura, JBJ, etc from last year. If he replicates his numbers from last year and provides 1.5 WAR .. he will be worth the contract. I'm optimistic like everyone else he can do a tick better, but if he ends up hitting .240 or something but otherwise his numbers hold - I will be a bit bothered if this is seen as a negative signing.
  22. It must be devastating to be a Reds fan right now. Their owner is one of the few who voted against the signed agreement and this almost seems like an 'ef you' type of fire sale. The NL Central isn't a hard division comparatively this year... this deconstruction is heartbreaking for the fans there.
  23. But it is bad business at this point unless the money makes sense. The Brewers are the favorites in the Central by a good margin. The rest of the division outside of StL is confused. So while 'anything can happen' is always true, if all things are equal we will be playoff bound this year and it makes much more sense to make a deadline deal or two to fill in holes that arise during the season rather then overreach right now for a piece you think you need but will handcuff you in the future, UNLESS the deal makes sense. There's no reason to give Castellanos a 5yr, $140mil deal right now or whatever it is he is asking for. Now if in 3 weeks you can get him on a 2 yr, $48mil... then great. But more bad business is done right now around baseball than good business. I think both Mark and David are good businessman, so the relative quiet from the Brewers during the initial rush of FA is typically a good sign.
