  1. So you've said! Fortunately, 4-2 wins count the same as 8-6 wins. I think scoring 4 runs is going to be a challenge. Last year's Brewers scored the 5th LEAST amount of runs in baseball and still averaged over 4 runs per game. Our offense this year will be better than last with ANY bounce back from Yelich, Hiura, Garcia, Narvaez, etc. Our defense will also be better than last year's. If our pitching can replicate last year's performance... the Brewers have gotten better.
  2. Using baseball reference numbers... Over the last 3 seasons, Lorenzo Cain has an offensive WAR of 5.1. He is an above average offensive player. Over the last 3 seasons, Avisail Garcia has an offensive WAR of 2.5. He is an above average offensive player. Over the last 3 seasons, Jackie Bradley Jr has an offensive WAR of 5.6. He is an above average offensive player.
  3. They signed two players for what Braun made last year, and a handful of other free agents with multi-million dollar deals walked. Haudricourt still isn’t wrong. Bingo!! While people want to see this as "the Brewers spending money", it's basically just replacing a contract you had on the books last year(Braun). That's not INCREASING the $$ you spent last year. truly spending money to me, is increasing the payroll consistently, and never dropping it down below a certain level So if Milwaukee steps way over their line this year and increases payroll to $200 million in a 'go or it' move and then next year that digresses to $150 million to get back to a salary supported by the business structure, did we stop spending money because we dropped in payroll or ... ?
  4. I can't remember the last time we have had a left handed lineup with as much potential. Bradley Wong Yelich Hiura Vogelbach Narvaez Shaw Cain/Garcia Urias If all do what they are supposed to do that lineup is really, really good.

  6. I feel like Taylor has earned, at least conversationally to start, the front runner award for the 4th spot. Behind that .. I'm assuming we are going to want a left handed bat off the bench? If they think Arcia can fill in in a pinch .. then the 5th OF spot might just go to a utility bat rather than an OF. With the current crop of guys though .. I would assume an acquisition will fill the roster before opening day?
  7. Should have clarified that he was switched back to the pen a few years ago and has worked there since. I would only be interested in him as a bullpen arm I think, not as a starter.
  8. This was the 40 man roster casualty from the Bauer signing. Looked him up and seems like there is plenty of upside. 2015 2nd rd pick. College World Series MVP at Virginia. Started career as reliever, turned starter for 2016 and was California league pitcher of the year (8-4, 2.66 era, 108 k's). Couple of bumps along the way since then and has had some appearances in the bigs the past few years. 27 years old. Fastball/Slider out of the pen and his fastball apparently can hit 95. I'm assuming he gets grabbed by someone before us, but I'm all for it if not.
  9. This is a such a great move for a guy like Freitas. If you can have minor league success and flirt with the majors, you can likely earn a life changing contract overseas for a year or two if the big leagues don't seem to be in the cards. $550k isn't what these kids dream of obviously... but if he is smart with it he will be comfortable the rest of his life. Well done young man! And yes.. I like the 40 man spot back
  10. I don't want to go back over the 10 pages .. but has it been mentioned that Wong might be a classic "lefty who hits better at Mill.. err, AmFam Field" candidate? If he is a 6-10 HR kind of guy .. maybe he becomes an 9-14 HR guy in Milwaukee? Contact hitter, great defense, and a veteran with playoff experience; if he can add a little more pop to his bat... great piece.
  11. The first thing that jumped out to me (and this can be contributed almost directly to Cain) is that our DH spot performed below replacement level. When the DH was announced, the Brewers (with Braun/Garcia, etc) were one of the most mentioned teams that were expected to benefit the most from it in the NL ... and it ended up hurting us. That is sad to see.
  12. Top 5 Brewers of all time. Arguably Top 2. If this was it, what a run. Thanks for the memories #8.
  13. Ahh gotcha, I stand corrected. Thanks for the info and sorry Plush for stepping in..
  14. the brewers hold an option for $2.55 mm with gamel. I swear I have heard of teams declining options and still tendering contracts...but maybe I am thinking of a different situation in a different sport. It happens all the time. I'm pretty sure we did that with Claudio just this last year.
  15. If we don't protect those guys, they are goners... There is a sadness in losing the minor league season for these types of players - guys that would have gotten a shot had we had a full season. Nottingham/Narvaez struggling at the plate as they did ... one or both of these guys would have gotten looks. If we lose one or both, hoping it doesn't come back to bite us. The exciting part of that equation is EVERY team went through the same thing this year and every team is going to have their own versions of Feliciano and Henry throughout their system that they will have to make decisions on and if Stearns and his crew are up to the task of treasure hunting as I think they are... there should be some gems out there to grab.
  16. If you would have told me we would have had Yelich as the tying run at the plate in the 9th before the game started I would have been surprised and excited... I was entertained at least. Let's get them tomorrow.
  17. I love what Braun brings to this team, but he's held together by paper mache and binder twine at this point in his career. If he's back next year, it needs to be at a substantially reduced salary, and in a reduced role. Unfortunately, I don't think he has a role next year given the play of Gyorko and Vogelbach. If the DH stays, it is Vogelbach's job. Gyorko will be cheap at $4+ million to have as a RH 1B ... so I am not sure even if Braun took a big pay cut that he would have a roster spot?... unless he takes a reduction down to like $3 million or something..
