  1. My assumption is we are not exercising the option on Soria and he gets his money elsewhere, so no to the 40 man question. I think Stearns is facing the position of either getting nothing for a few of the rule 5 guys ... or making deals to gain some value somewhere for his big league club. Bulking up the bullpen for a playoff run was offered up him and he cashed in. I really do understand if people dont like this trade... but like you said, final evaluation will come from me after the deadline and then again after the season. Go Crew!
  2. A lot of satisfying offensive production/at bats today. Even something seemingly simple like the 1st inning double followed by 2 ground outs to score him... great to see. Kratz and Braun with rbi singles. Jesus some good at bats. Great offensive game.
  3. Offensive production from the catcher's spot. That has me tickled.
  4. Portland drafting Sam Bowie ahead of Jordan is something that haunts a franchise. Portland drafting Oden ahead of Durant is something that haunts a franchise. The Packers drafting Mandarich ahead of Barry, Deion, and Derrick Thomas is something that haunts a franchise. The Brewers trading Kodi Medeiros for Joakim Soria is not going to haunt our franchise. Promise. You can not like the trade ... but let's keep it in perspective here. Spot on! I don't hate the trade really. Medeiros won't keep me up at night. I just think they got their irons in the wrong fire right now. I really have no opinion on the trade yet. Need a day to digest it. I liked Kodi. I also don't anticipate this is the only deal we are getting from Stearns. My guess is we get a 2B here shortly ... then we try for a big name starter and dont succeed so we end up with a 2nd tier guy last minute. I will like or shrug at this trade much more once I see what else is done before the deadline hits. If this is a deal amongst other deals that make us truly competitive ... I am leaning towards liking it. Our bullpen is legit and we have a pretty serious 40 man crunch this off season. If we strike out in the next few days and this is about all we do... I'm not nearly as happy. All about perspective!

  6. Per Ken Rosenthal: "Seven teams showed up to scout the Brewers' double-A team this week! All sellers: #Mets, #Rangers, #WhiteSox, #Royals, #Reds, #Marlins, #Tigers. Do not file this under "normal coverage." Too many guys in AA that could be a part of many types of trade scenarios to speculate ... but for those saying "if we only get Soria and stand pat otherwise ... it is a waste" ... I think we can largely assume the Soria trade will not be our only move.
  7. Ditto on not liking the trade for a variety of reasons, but losing games when they've lead after 6 innings has not been a problem for this team. And there are going to be days where you are getting blown out and it's just fine to use Drake/Logan/etc. I just think there was zero need to get fatter in the bullpen right now. They need an impact bat or two and a SP that can project as somewhere between ACE and #3. If they go out and get a Ray Durham type, I'll lose my mind. As fun as trading is, I wish they would have just stood pat with their resources this year. They really failed to capitalize on their start for the 2nd year in a row and make a move in early July to push the envelope, a la Sabathia. Instead, they sat on their hands and allowed a horrible losing streak, more than likely, cause a repeat of 2017 and a complete miss of the playoffs. I've read this novel too many times as a Brewers fan. I'll be shocked if they get an impact bat and a worthy SP to go along with Soria. If they don't, I don't see the point in Soria. You are calling the season over on July 26th when we are leading the wild card standings and 2.5 games out of 1st in the division with the 3rd best overall record in the National League? I mean, predictions and opinions are your right .... but that is pretty pessimistic, no?
  8. Jorge Lopez seems like the likely casualty on the 25 man, no?
  9. That's the key quote right there. My guess is they see Burnes as a big help to the pen and would like to keep him there if they can't improve the starting 5. If, in one week, our starting rotation is the same as it is today ... we can start to question that decision. I would be willing to bet good money our rotation will have an additional piece or 2 by the end of the weekend.
  10. He's not growing into power unless he stops hitting ground balls all the time. Dang. You're right.
  11. I do realize these feelings are in the midst of a Yelich hot streak... but I think he will garner MVP votes by the time this season ends... (Cain will as well, and rightly so, as his defense is an attribute...) but what a hitter. Hitting nearly .333 against LHP. Hits to all fields. Currently sitting 8th in Batting Average in the National League. 12th in OBP. 11th in Slugging Percentage. 8th in Runs Scored. 11th in OPS. 13th in steals. If he hadn't missed a few games he would be arguably top 10 in more of the "gathering" stats. I think he grows into some more power in the coming years also. Absolutely stole him. He and Hiura are going to be so much fun to watch the next couple of years.
  12. Guerra had 2 of the others. Not a great day for the offense outside of the two MVP candidates..
  13. A lot of people are saying things like this re: Jennings... I think this might be a case of really remembering only when it goes poorly because lefties are not hitting all that great off of Jennings this year thus far *knock on wood*
  14. Burnes, Williams, Knebel, Hader, Jeffress ... 5 Brewers relievers who can hit 97 on the gun. Have we ever had that before?
  15. Let's get this pitch count into the 40's this inning.
  16. So we all can be like you and never have a doubt? Noticed you made these comments after the streak was snapped, not before. It was a joke man. Next time Ill make the wink face extra big for you! I've gotten hollered at in game threads for being overly positive, as others take it as a challenge to their criticism. Im not challenging your right to have an opinion... just simply offering a life of less stress and better sleep ;) ;)
  17. I’ve never understood the whole “get their feet wet” argument. These guys are professionals who have been playing baseball their entire lives. All of a sudden they get to the majors and play in front of bigger crowds and they forget how to pitch? Or they get so nervous they can’t have success but if they pitch out of the bullpen that isn’t an issue? We don’t need to baby these guys. I honestly just think the Brewers as an organization have more faith in older, veteran guys even if they aren’t as good. They way Corbin Burnes is pitching I don’t see any reason not to let him start games if we need a starter. But they just won’t do it. So you don't believe that different personalities/temperaments require different approaches to becoming Major League ready? Or are you just saying you only want one type of personality playing for your team?
  18. oh boy. Keon leading off? That will make the next two hours on this thread interesting...
  19. This is pretty clearly the correct answer. How is it getting Burnes to the show more quickly when he's also MLB rotation ready now? I understood it to an extent with Hader and would definitely understand it with Peralta given his inning constraints this season. With Burnes it seems like more of a natural fit for him to go straight from the rotation and I'm not sure I really buy the explanation because they're not doing this with all their pitching prospects. When you teach a kid to swim, you start them in a pool with an adult holding on. Some learn slowly and some learn quickly. Gradually you take off their life vest and allow them to go to figure things out on their own. At some point, hopefully sooner rather than later ... they have learned everything they can in that setting and are "ready". What you are suggesting is taking that kid and throwing him off a boat into a fresh water lake for their first swim. Some kids would thrive on that fear and excitement and would start swimming laps. Other kids would panic and struggle because there is no floor, because the water is different, etc and while some will overcome that and still be great swimmers ... some will be forever damaged and will never reach their potential because of that experience. In the latter cases, it is ok to give the kid who is "ready" a life jacket and let them mess around in the water a little while to get used to it before you let them get after it. Each kid is different and I trust the parents and swim instructors know enough of each kid to understand what they will need to succeed. Some kids can be launched as soon as they graduate. Other kids need a life jacket for a bit.
