I may just be relaxing in the Keon glow right now ... but if I remember Broxton correctly, he had violent hot streaks, more so than most I can remember. He would go cold and be unwatchable ... but when he would have a good week at the plate it was remarkable. It would be really, really nice if we caught gold with his call up coinciding with a violent hot streak ... because he can win games by himself when he does and we could use it with the injuries.
I don't know much of anything about this kid but based on the reaction here I am expecting him to come in and throw 8 scoreless innings in the next week.
Oh boy, I missed me some Villar in the lead off spot. I had a pretty good suspicion Broxton was going to get the start against the lefty. Counsell plays guys if they come up. This is a lineup I expect to get pummeled. But Brent Suter is on the mound and he is gritty. I am reversing expectations and predicting a 6-3 win. Go Crew!
Do we have any knowledge on what kind of inning limit they might have him on this year? How do we stretch him out to give us innings into the late season?
This is a little strange to me because if they wanted defense they would have gone with Phillips I would think. Offense is a wash between Maverick and Broxton as the numbers are similar (both are striking out way too much ... Broxton over 40%!) and maybe they think it is too soon to bring Santana back. This feels like a "thanks for sticking with us Keon" move to me. That is 100% conjecture on my part ... but if there is any truth it is way too bad, because we are a first place ballclub and with our guys down we need to salvage some wins in the next week.
Is there a brewer in recent memory that has hit to the opposite field as good as Ryan Braun has in his career? Jeff Cirillo was great going to right... anyone else you can think of?
Perez, Villar, Kratz, Arcia, Chacin is our 5-9. Woof. Here's to a plate of crow this afternoon I hope? Sidenote: I wonder how Santana feels not getting at bats up here then seeing Hernan Perez getting starts in RF not even 48 hours after he is sent down..
Usually when we speak badly of somebody they get a hit ... maybe the whole group will Participate ! Rally caps! Not a chance Pina comes through in the clutch.
Ego is such a funny thing. I truly want this game to end in a 1 run victory so that Matheny has to face a question from the media as to why.... when his team is 6.5 games behind Milwaukee (with maybe the best team in the NL between them as well) ... having lost 8 of 10 ... with his best pitcher on the mound to maybe right the ship ... against a MKE pitcher who is struggling with his confidence ... ... would he choose to put a Brewer on base for free simply so he could puff out his chest ... only to have that runner score and be the difference in the game. Thanks Mike! Hope it was worth it.
I find it amusing a bit that Miller was bruoght in and sent down to get a crash course in SS play (thus allowing me to assume they are using him to spell Arcia) ... then is brought up and gets the start over Villar while Perez mans SS.
What about Uecker? It’s been touch and go with him lately on dingers. Uecker's call was good. Sounded like he didn't pick the ball up right away... but he realized it after a second and his voice escalated.
I always find it interesting/fun to revisit trades at certain points and ask myself "If I could reverse this trade right now would I do it?" Would anyone trade Yelich right now back for the guys we gave up for him? I know it is only half a season. It'll be fun to revisit next year again, etc
WAR this season: Yelich - 2.1 Stanton - 1.8 Ozuna - 1.0 Obviously it is only a half season or so but Stanton should be at or near peak at 28 and if his k and swing miss rate is increasing that isn't the greatest sign for the future of that contract. Ozuna cashed in on a good season (and good for him!) but I agree the Brewers got the best deal out of that trio of moves.
