  1. If we were 12 games over .500 in the 1st half and play .500 the rest of the way that would leave us with a record of 87-75 which, coincidentally and unfortunate for your argument, was exactly the record we would have needed last year to make the playoffs.
  2. But he did and the depth has been exposed. The future isn't "just fine" if standing pat and hoping Nelson comes back in full is what everything is leaning on. This isn't my point. My point is that we have gone through a tough stretch of baseball to bring us "down" to being only a 1/2 game up in the wildcard and we have posters talking about giving guys chances in September tryouts and others posters starting threads asking if there is hope for the future. IF we had our ace ... we would arguably be games ahead of the wild card chase and the likely temperature of the fan base would be how quickly Stearns and Co built us into a contender. Instead we have to talk about whether we have hope for the future. If Jimmy Nelson didn't get hurt this thread would not exist. But he did and now some think the direction of our franchise is flat or heading in the wrong direction.
  3. The condescension continues towards certain users. Ya, no reason to worry st Louis right on our feet, they will fade ( we know their history). But keep up that condescension towards people who are realists. Why would some people worry? After all it's the brewers, we know they got this(we know their history) I wonder what some people are gonna say when they can't say stuff like "It's only one game" I guess these people forgot about how many games we missed the playoffs by. I don't think he was being condescending... I think he was merely saying there are multiple areas on this board where this topic is being discussed so another thread is a little overkill.
  4. These seem like a pretty pivotal 6 outs to the sanity of our season. Hold on and we are back 'in the playoffs' having gotten out of St Louis injured but not dead. Blow a game in the final inning or two to get swept and end the series more than a days' work out of the playoffs and the panic will be real.
  5. They got real mad at Cameron for untucking .. I'm sure Cain probably drives them nuts with his 'antics' too.
  6. You said nothing wrong. He took it in a really weird way for some reason but what you said was fine.
  7. I mean, if we are going to be bringing guys up for "a look" ... we will have to lose out the remainder of August and be 6-8 games back of the wild card to consider it. The Brewers will be playing meaningful games into the final week and will be battling for a playoff spot ... no one is going to get a look if management doesn't think they will help win games this season.
  8. If Jimmy Nelson didn't get hurt this conversation would not be happening and we would be gearing up for a long past season run. Yes, our future is fine.
  9. I'm 100% convinced of this. It's really, really sad. If you were a Packers fan during the 2010 season ... this is absolutely confirmed. The hatred of Ted Thompson led many to actually have mixed feelings of the Super Bowl win because 1) TT would receive credit and 2) his leash would be extended. The same would be true here albeit to a much lesser extent. If the Crew catches fire and goes the whole way this year ... there would be a trail of "we got really lucky and we still haven't put together a team for sustained success" jabber that would find its way here. I'm not mad at those who are never satisfied, it is just foreign to me is all.
  10. Some of our best players have come from the so called trash can. What it says about our team is that we don't have the necessary payroll to consistently play in the deep end of the Free Agency pool. What it says about Stearns is that so far he has shown an ability to extract value from players who other organizations believed would provide none. That is an important & much needed ability for a GM, especially soin a market as small as Milwaukee. We have gotten value...but Have any of the scrubs we picked up cost us any games this year? Thay would negate some of that value. I just don't remember us doing this in the past as much. It reeks of desperation. The contributions of Aguilar, Jeffress, Miley, Pina's handling of the staff and to a lesser extent Saladino/Jennings have vastly outweighed the deficit brought about by Sogard, Zagurski, Miller, Kratz, etc and I don't know that it is really close.
  11. The main benefit for Tampa was unloading a few million, which we could have easily taken on. I've never heard of a "PTBNL or cash considerations" being anything of significance. In almost all cases, if a PTBNL is significant it is known ahead of time. It is going to be a light return. IF it ends up being a player, probably something along the caliber of a Yeison Coca PTBNL. Yes would have been nice to get him...jeez and for nothing?? Well played Stearns. You say this as if Ramos was available to us at a small cost and Stearns decided against it. This may or may not be the case, but what inside information do you have that says Stearns never initiated talks on a Ramos deal?
  12. My head slap was at the assertion that our GM isn't qualified for his position and that Cal Eldred has anything to do with this current roster and its projection.
  13. "Usually once you start to regress, it happens faster and faster" This is an opinion, not a supportable fact really beyond anecdotal evidence, especially considering some of the players you are likely referring to are Santana, Arcia, etc who are young kids still learning how to play the game. If you are talking about Pina, sure. Talent eventually declines with age. But if you are worried about young players who show promise, none of us can predict how they will play moving forward. My assumption, based off your first two posts in this thread, is that you are worried about Santana, Arcia, etc and whether they can contribute to the Brewers moving forward. That opinion is warranted based on this season. Another fan might consider them obvious assets based on potential and learning curve and be fully expectant they will be big pieces next year and beyond. Also a valid opinion based on prior evidence. This isn't a baseball question you are asking, it is an outlook on life question.
  14. Really funny that he was traded along with Corey Knebel for Joakim Soria back in the day.
  15. Two game sweep will not make us the favorites. Losing both games will cause many to abandon ship, but really doesn't change much of anything. Cubs are the favorites before and after this short series, regardless of what happens. There's still a month and half left, so nothing critical about this series. Oh, I entirely agree with you. I'm talking specifically about the reaction of this board and our fan base. Many tend to live and die day to day with results.
  16. I'm stating the obvious ... but potentially a crucial 48 hours for the Brewers and the temperature of the fan base. If we get swept I'm assuming many will be jumping. If we can sweep everyone will make us the favorites. #fandom I'm cautiously optimistic about today, go Crew!
  17. A lot of pessimism on the boards since the trading deadline. Quick reminder, since the All-Star break: Dodgers 1-2 Nationals 2-1 Giants 3-1 Dodgers 2-1 Rockies 2-1 Padres 1-2 Braves 1-1 12-9 overall with a chance today to win another series. If we can pull off today we will have won 5 of the 7 series we have played in thus far since the break. 12-9 is roughly 57% and would project to 92 wins over the course of a year. Bad games are frustrating but try to keep in context that over the course of a season (the Red Sox withstanding) there are going to be rough patches. All things considered the Brewers are in a good position. Enjoy the ride! Go Crew.
  18. You won't have to worry about stress for too much longer. You think they will be eliminated from playoff contention soon? Welcome to PinaMadness. Go read through his/her post history ... he/she hasn't posted anything positive about the team in about 600 posts.
  19. Lot of hits out of the bottom of the order today. Pleasing.
  20. Let's take a picture when you post something positive. +1 +100
  21. I don't think it is much more complicated than... If a media outlet adds "Chicago" or "Yankees" or "Los Angeles" into its headline... it gets X number of views. If a media outlet adds "Milwaukee" or "Brewers" into its headline ... it gets X number of views. The media outlet will write stories that get page views.
  22. Our Sunday lineup now includes Moustakas and Schoop. It is light years better than a month ago.
