  1. I can't imagine what everyone around here will do if Milwaukee wins today and we take the series from the best team in the NL. 80% of this board is currently sitting in a puddle of its own tears over a really bad week... Can't wait for the sun to come out again so you all can get back on board
  2. I'm not advocating one way or the other ... but you picked the absolute worst day to start this thread. The Brewers beat Clayton Kershaw and the best team in the National League yesterday precisely BECAUSE neither Burnes or Hader are starting (assist to muncy for giving us a show over at 3rd). I want to see them given a chance to start as well... just thought your timing was funny.
  3. Since July 1st - the middle infield contingent of Perez, Saladino, Orf and Villar are a combined 31 for 149 (.208) with an OBP of roughly .284 with 4 HRs and 13 RBIs. Basically I'm agreeing with you that we need more offensive ability up the middle. My gut tells me that Arcia is going to get his job back soon and we will make the upgrade (Dozier) at 2b.
  4. Villar is hitting .300 with a .352 OBP vs LHP this year. He is a better hitter than Perez against lefties.
  5. Yeah, they are giving up. No use even showing up anymore. Sheesh! I get that it hasn't been a great week for Brewer baseball, but the Debbie Downers are starting to get a little overpowering around here. If we haven't had a history of falling off the cliff in the second half of a season more often than not we wouldn't be seeing these depressing posts. Until the Brewers show us they can overcome these bumps in the road we will continue to see negative posts like those in this thread. Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain and our current middle infield and most of our bullpen and half of our rotation and to a smaller extent THE ENTIRE REST OF THE ROSTER except for Braun have nothing to do with this team's past failures to close out a September. Let's give them a chance, yeah?
  6. How is our roster going to look? We put too many guys on the DL in the last week for me to keep track of who went where and when... Thames, Villar are both out for a bit yet, yes? Braun? Pina? What roster moves are we making in the next 24 hours?
  7. You have to take the good with the bad on these in-game threads. 3 or 4 years ago these in-game threads were one of the best parts of this message board. The conversation was insightful and clever and people really didn't over react to the ebb and flow of individual games like many do now. That isn't necessarily a bad thing... But I do agree with you that the immaturity grinds on you at times. I mainly come here if I miss something live and need an update on an injury or a play or something. Otherwise it is hard for me to stomach the "youthful" turn these in game threads have taken...
  8. Miley threw 9 yesterday. OK but those days have been few and far between lately. I just looked at the last 4 games. Miley threw 9 yesterday in the 1st. Peralta threw 16 in the 1st on Wednesday. Chacin threw 20 pitches in the 1st on Tuesday. Anderson threw 14 pitches in the 1st on Monday. 3 out of the last 4 have done so. I don't mean to be that guy but if you are going to say weird things I have to call you on it!
  9. Also, as a caveat to the Woodruff talk... it would likely really behoove us to have Woodruff throw well when he gets in this weekend. I can't imagine he isn't a big piece of the trade conversations out there... and having him sit down some bats this weekend would be a nice aid I would think.
  10. I hope the Brewers are making a hard play on Ramos. Would cost a fraction of a Machado or Realmuto type deal and you can deal from the lower portion of your 40 or with a few players we will have to offer in the Rule 5 next year to make it happen. His .295 average and .829 OPS would look so good with our club right now.
  11. I think the plan is going to be to piggyback Woodruff on top of one of Saturday's starters, probably Suter but depending on the score and situation of Game 1. Since Suter and Woodruff are essentially "extras" at this point that just leaves 3 games left for our conventional pen, which is fairly fresh at the moment. Hader, Burnes, Knebel, Williams, and Jeffress can all probably cover either one multi inning appearance or two appearances of an inning or less. Asher, Barnes and Jennings can probably give one appearance more each before the break. Barring a disastrous short start I think they're fine. Yeah, I think Woodruff will piggyback on the first starter that shows wear. If Guerra struggles tonight Woodruff will be his backup ... if Guerra pitches well then Woodruff gets held to be in the same position all day tomorrow.
  12. I think what they are saying is the money will be spent irregardless. If you and three friends go to a game this weekend you will spend ~$200 total on tickets/food/beer/parking etc. If you and three friends can't go to the game this weekend because there is no arena and sports team in the area ... you will go grab a case of beer and some snacks and rent a pontoon boat for the afternoon and spend ~$200. Economic impact = the same
  13. Guerra is as close to an ace as we have right now. Time to stop the negativity and get us back on track! Are we expecting any moves before the game? We just called up 3 guys and they all got used, are they on their way out now?
  14. Villar is still hitting over .300 as a right handed batter. I would assume he is in a straight platoon with Miller?
  15. Almost positive Miley is going to be on some sort of pitch count tonight. I would be elated if can get 5+ from him.
  16. At bats are just about the last thing these scouts are here to see. Using Nottingham as your example, how does he prepare for an at bat in the on deck circle? How does he react when he doesn't like an umpire's call? When he is in the dugout is he talking to his pitchers? Is he a nurturing personality on the field/in the dugout like Buster Posey? Hoo Rah Rah guy like Manny Pina? Wear your emotions on your sleeve like an AJ Pierzynski? Is he forming any kind of relationship with the ump while he is calling a game? How does he direct his infielders on cutoffs? How often is his pitcher shaking off his signs on payoff pitches? Every position has its nuances and leadership needs, etc that are particular to how you want to build a ball club based on vision and current make up. You can't see any of this from a TV screen or in a box score and if you are David Stearns and are trying to make a run at a pennant ... it is worth a couple of thousand dollars to send a few guys to check in on guys like Happ and Lowrie and Dozier etc to get a better feel for what they are bringing and not just trust an old colleague who thinks he is a good dude, etc Due diligence is important when rebuilding a culture or putting the finishing touches on one.
  17. Holy crap. I don't know where to start. 1) Breathe. 2) Breathe again. 3) "Winners beat the bad teams that they're supposed to beat." - The Brewers took the season series from the Marlins 5-2 ... so, check mark on that one? 4) "I am bleeping so sick of this team. " - We have the best record in the National League. Literally no team in the National League has had a better season to date than we have. What would your reaction be if we were a .500 team right now? What is acceptable to you? 80-13 record? 85-8 record? 5) "Losers find a way to f it up. And that's what this team is." - Once again, factually inaccurate. We have lost the least amount of any team who has to bat its pitchers. 6) "meaning a win against a team that should be an automatic series win" - If you really have been a baseball fan for 40 years, you would know this comment makes absolutely no sense. Bad teams win 70 games in a season or roughly 43% of their games. Very good team win 90 or roughly 55%. Good teams win about 12% more games than bad teams... that is a big deal, but not so much that you should lose your mind if a "bad" team wins a series over a "good" team. 7) "And here we are, yet again, getting ready for our annual fall swoon." - Again, I'm assuming you know this as you have been a great fan for forty f#$&%*^ years ... but we have had a fall collapse like, 6 total times in our history. Most of our history has us out of the race right about this time ... and Packers season getting our attention. 8) "I'm fed up." - Please call Mark Attanasio and tell him how bad a job David Stearns is doing. I would love to know what the response is. 9) Go to sleep. Try again tomorrow. Or don't, it won't hurt me that much if you jump off the bandwagon. This season has been a joy for me.
  18. Braun is never healthy, and not better than the 3 OFers starting tonight, so not really relevant. Agreed about the middle infield. Maybe someone out there can help. Not including Lopez' at bat ... the guys who came off the bench today in either a double switch or a pinch hit appearance went 0-7 with a pair of walks. Not having Ryan Braun hurt us tonight. He hasn't been great, but he would have given us better at bats than what we ended up with.
  19. Did you think this after last night when we scored a bunch of runs and the pen shut down the game? Or is this just a knee-jerk reaction because today didn't go well...
  20. Holy crap guys. Get a grip. "i agree these type of game when the brewers don't win will come back to bite them like last year" "This team is an Aguillar 0-10 slump from being in free fall. This is ridiculous." The Brewers scored 35 total runs in their last 7 games. That is 5 per game. That is really good. The offense is fine. Frustrating... but we have an unhealthy Shaw, an unhealthy Braun, and a make shift middle infield. We are going to have droughts. Regarding the "come back to bite them" silliness... the Brewers have been near AMAZING in late inning games this year. The clutch gene has been all over us. We aren't going to win every one and we aren't going to look pretty in every one. Chill. Everyone go to sleep.
  21. It is too bad we won't be getting Manny Machado then
  22. If Lopez needs to throw a couple innings today i can only assume he will be sent to AAA after the game to get another arm up here. 5 games in 4 days and we are burning through everyone tonight.
