It's always hard to witness fan's first trade deadlines. You guys are in the anger phase right now, grieving will come probably Tuesday. The Brewers will win three of their next five games and Gausman will lose his first start with the Cubs and you will forget all about this experience by mid-August.

I know these things can't be consolidated into one bucket but Stearns ended up trading Jett Williams and Brandon Sproat for the Rays number 15, 26, and 27 prospects and 2/3 of a season of a replacement level starter. This one falls into the 'not so good' category.

I think you need to reverse your filters on available pitchers to see who we are targeting. We are not going after the guy having his best season, paying appropriate value for him, to hope he continues it here. We are going after the guys who have shown to be capable/good guys in their careers who have had a rough 3+ months, that we can acquire for a song, and hope they return to their normal. I would be FAR more shocked if we trade for Robbie Ray than I would we do something a little wacky and trade for Jose Quintana and his sprained elbow or something.

I agree and even if the Padres were selling we are not trading for Mason Miller. I'm just saying removing Skubal from the pool helps quell some of the noise in the coming days.

My favorite part of the trade is that it happened tonight and so it saves us 2 full days of having to dance around it. I know the pipe dream scenarios all just transfer now to Mason Miller... But this saves about 9 pages of comments on the deadline day thread.

Little wandering side quest from my brain... I wonder how this affects Ginger Paulson and the folks in those positions when stuff like this happens. Put all the time in to discover/go to bat for. Have him picked. Watch the rise and call up. Then overnight he is gone. Not your job once after they are picked obviously but I wonder to what degree there is sadness, etc

Low key my favorite type of fan over reaction is the "you can't make a move unless it is THE move" kind of thing. Packers sign a CB in free agency - fan response "WHY ARE WE SIGNING THIS GUY WE NEED OFFENSIVE LINEMAN". It is like your front office has to ignore any phone call unless it pertains to one specific area of need.

Yeah, I don't know. It was just the first thing I thought of. Young guy, positive WAR every year until now - MLB experience. Quero might be a sell high candidate in my eyes. With a lockout looming and Dinges/Wood a year away this gives you at least something in the cupboard if teams are trying to get Quero, etc. Maybe he and Quero are the combo in '27 and we ship out Bill this off season, who knows. Like I said it was just the first thought I had when I read the headline.

My very first thought when I saw this headline was "Quero is gone". Could be wildly wrong. That was just the instinct. Just a note, Quero was a Stearns era signee.

I am about here as well. O'Rae and Boeve might be the 6th and 7th or 7th and 8th best hitters on Biloxi's roster and I'll have a sad moment for both. I like both guys a lot. -
I think OP assumes that the optimists don't see the imperfections. We all see the same thing. The difference here is the same in any hierarchy whether it is business or family structure or a sports related fan message board or whatever ... Do you focus on and announce the bad while quietly understanding the good or do you focus on and announce the good while quietly understanding the bad. OP says "we don't have enough power". Responders say "we score a lot of runs". I assume OP knows we score runs. I assume also responders know we don't slug the stuffing out of the ball. Just a difference in perspectives. No one is right or wrong and we will always clash as we interrupt the other side's way of enjoying the game.

Given the success with our international scouts/DSL squads, etc... I wouldn't even be upset if we started haphazardly trading guys for extra international pool money. What is the rule - we can trade for an extra 50 or 60% of what we are allotted to begin with? Might as well give those guys as much as they can handle until they fail. You want Coley for $50k international? Sure! You want Tyler Black for $150k international? Great!

The TRats broke their record today for most team home runs in a season. We have yet to reach August.

Might as well trade the entirety of the position players in AAA and just bump both AA and A+ rosters up a level. Gracious. I haven't decided if I want to put that statement in blue yet.

So a consistent offense is an offense better than the Dodgers' offense is what we have landed on as your definition. Your stance has recency bias all over it unfortunately. We beat Sanchez this year. We knocked Skubal out with a lead. Why weren't you upset at our consistency then?

Well, we were facing a guy we have never beaten in a ballpark we historically don't play well in calling up a guy from AAA making his first big league appearance in 3 years... The spreadsheets kind of knocked this one out of the park if we are being honest.
