How do you think David Stearns' day is going?

Yeah Stearns and Counsell are in different stratospheres when it comes to how and why they left and the intention behind it. I would welcome Stearns back for the potential parade if he wanted to come. I would tell Counsell the wrong date and location if he asked. -
I didn't peruse the whole page but this entire thread is 75%ish or more of Dodgers' fans saying they are cheering for us. The OP throws shade and the vast majority of comments are disagreeing with him/her. Not saying your take is wrong ... but this was the first thing I clicked on and it is pretty pro Milwaukee.

I understand the appeal of wanting Contreras long term and I do think there are some Yadi intangibles that he mimics here but I will just note that giving him a multi-year lucrative contract is the exact opposite approach of what has gotten us to this point as a franchise. I personally would be shocked if it happens. We will run it back next year with him in his age 29 year. Then if he wants to play on a 1yr QO deal at ~$26mil+ in '28 we can absorb it for a season. He likely turns that down for a big contract somewhere though. Contreras might be one of the anomalies, but catchers don't generally age well, I just can't see Arnold & Co tying up big money in him long term.

Someone yesterday mentioned Contreras "encouraging" a few strike calls by immediately raising his hand to 'threaten' a challenge before the pitch has even been called, possibly to encourage a strike call. I thought it was an interesting observation. Like most of you I've watched the final pitch 600 times now and the thing I can't NOT see now is Bill doing the same thing, albeit different scenario. He doesn't just point and ask for an appeal. He comes out of his crouch and offers an opportunity for the 1b ump to be the star and end it while celebrating. I can't not see it now.

I guess I would zoom out a little bit before using that phrase to anyone's specific benefit. Baker has thrown 3 innings in the last 7 days. Megill has thrown 1. Our leverage arms were slamming spotted cows down in the 3rd ward for a full week while those guys were throwing high leverage pitches. I actually wish our arms weren't as rested as they currently are tbh. I know what you are saying though..

If I'm a Rays' fan I am a little distraught to be honest. They need to steal one from us, not the other way around. Last night felt like one to steal.

I'm assuming veteran starting pitching has been a key component of most World Series winners. Maybe an impossible question to find the answer to - but I wonder how often the youngest starting pitching staff in baseball makes the playoffs and then to what degree it has success.

.. and not just Miz. Henderson and Drohan. Given his finish probably Harrison. Given his injury come back maybe even Gasser. Nearly the entire starting pitching staff. The story of the 2026 Brewers is asinine.

But it is lacking context. Miz has qualified for a quality start one time since Sept 1 and that was the Cubs series when we more or less ended the division race. He has thrown OVER 5 innings one time since that series. He has thrown over 700 more pitches this year than he did last year. He and the Brewers are just trying to get home at this point. You are wanting the Miz from June and that isn't him anymore. That guy will be back in April of '27. If we are offered 5 innings of 1 run baseball (against the 2nd best team in baseball) in Game 5 in a few days we should all be taking it and sprinting away with it. Miz won't say he is tired but Murphy has said it numerous times. Expecting him to perform like a prime post season Randy Johnson or Pedro and Schilling or whomever is a really high ask of a 24 year old running on fumes in his first full MLB season.

Just got home. Not going to go back to read the thread but a couple of comments and questions... Not pulling Sanchez and hitting Lara to get left vs right when Lara was coming in anyway was confusing. Would love to hear an answer there from Murphy. Both caught stealings were incredibly big. TB must be kicking themselves. Wild Bill is in a heater. Another note, the double steal in the 9th might have taken the bat out of Caminero's hands.. I don't think Megill gave him a fastball after that if I remember correctly. Unintentional intentional kind of thing. Fine with bunting Mitchell but after ball 1 I think it is an auto take there. I don't know if he threw a strike to Turang? In my head he had thrown 5 straight out of the zone... I could be wrong about that. Had to win that one. The Rays put a little odd pressure on us by throwing NM. Similarly now, the Rays really need their ace to deliver tomorrow. Pressure has shifted. That 9th inning turned my stomach inside out. 3 to go.

Can't believe we are here. I arrive confident yet at peace and oddly a little nostalgic somehow. I'm gonna miss this team. We have at least 4 games left with them... I'm going to enjoy this, come what may. Let's fricken go. Take care of business for one more week then let's party forever.

To me this is the only way it makes sense to put him on the roster. If his shoulder doesn't respond/recover from revving up and throwing competitive pitches ... that is it. He is a one use guy. Murphy has mentioned that a few times ... I don't think the Brewers would risk it. So you start him in Gm4 and are asking him to get 9-12 outs or whatever. Your Gm4 starter likely isn't going to be used again anyway... May slides into the bullpen role and provides both length and an available righty to combat the Caminero/Diaz inning as many times as needed.

Just realizing the Rays 4 scheduled starters are all right handed. It will be Yelich/Frelick/Hamilton the rest of the way.

I didn't say either of those things. I think there are a bunch of factors in play. Protecting Freddy against being overly emotional in a Gm2 in Milwaukee isn't the worst idea. Rolling the dice that the Brewers bats are a little rusty and trying to sneak 9-12 outs from Martinez using that possibility isn't the worst strategy.

This is exactly what I would have done if I were Tampa. This gives them a paper pitching advantage in 2 of the first 3 games and then gives them Raz and Freddy for 6 & 7 if it gets there. If you are the Brewers - you are the better team and have home field. You play your game and make them come get you. If you are the Rays, you need to tip the scales somehow. This is what I would have done to give myself the best chance. If the Rays steal Gm1 the Crew suddenly has a big uphill climb.

Someone said earlier the total wins would be Top 10 all time. Considering the path and the legacy team that was just slayed... I think that would have to bump up a few spots. Top 8?

There is the scene from The Office where Andy is wrapping up the series and in his monologue he says "I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them." There is a lot left to accomplish and as much as I want to stay serious and locked in on the ALCS and "do my part" by scouting and scouring opponents... I know we are just about at the pinnacle of the best era of Brewers baseball I will ever know. I have a week left in this current moment. To revel in the Dodgers series. To revel in the Mason Miller game. To see World Series ads with our guys on them. That's where I currently am. Metaphorically, I'm sitting on a bench looking out over a lake at sunset reflecting how lucky I am to be in this moment. Ask me on Thursday when Gm1 starters are announced... I'll get some fire back in my eyes. Right now I'm just thankful.

What Does Going to the World Series Mean to You?

I was nostalgic/peaceful. I felt it after Gm3 also when this became inevitable. So happy for everyone - so grateful. But there is a part of me that has a "the fight is over" release. I had the same feeling with the Bucks. I root hard for underdogs. Unknown musicians, brand new restaurants, etc. I will overspend and overhype to give them a chance. Then if and when they get their footing, I have this proud papa feeling of pride and I go searching for the next little guy to try and help. This is obviously different. I'm never leaving the Brewers and there is still a lot more to do this year to finish this up. But I am sitting in the same 'proud papa' feeling right now. We've all fought so hard (relatively speaking) ... and a portion of that fight is over now. -
.. also our trade deadline would be a general flop and Sproat, Patrick, Woodruff, and Drohan** wouldn't pitch. What on earth.

Had you told me back in June the Brewers were going to win the pennant and Miz and Harrison were going to pitch a combined 3.1 innings in the series (without a successful trade deadline) I would have been so confused.
