I was thinking about Kuhnel last night. The crooked hat, the garbage man physique, the hint of confusion in his eyes.. He has a little bit of a John Rocker aura to him. I think if he purposely sailed a 98 mph seed to the backstop every other appearance and then looked at his hand like he wasn't quite sure what happened... I think it would make him fractionally more effective. Just give the hitters a fragrance of doubt that he entirely knows what he is doing :)

I could be wrong about this but I remember Pratt doing the same thing after he signed his? Someone can fact me on that. A little "prove it" pressure, maybe?

I always think about first pro at bats for notable call ups. You only get one. I know situation will dictate how you approach the at bat ... but it would be really hard for me not to sit dead red and take the hardest swing of my life on that first pitch if presented the opportunity. Then recenter and be a hitter after :)

Oh interesting! Good for him. I wonder how they split SS/3B time between he and Jett now. Garcia has been mainly playing third in Biloxi, but if Jett is imminent for the big league roster it would also be at 3b one would presume... -
I wasn't anticipating this. I also assumed IL. I think there is an above zero chance he gets claimed and we get relieved of his salary. Coincidentally he is the kind of guy we usually look for (underperforming from career norms/change of scenery needed types)... so someone else with a hole at 2b/3b maybe takes a flyer ..

The Brewers also make a concerted effort to protect guys against offensive flaws because they hammer splits more than most. Pratt against LHP this year (sm sample sz) is .268/.423/.439 -> OPS of .862 So if Rengifo is indeed the guy bumped out of the lineup it is hard for me to imagine we haven't improved our offering against LHP going from Ortiz/Rengifo to Ortiz/Pratt both offensively and defensively speaking. I do expect Pratt will get plenty of playing time against RHP as well ... but in a vacuum the numbers favor the move regardless.

Just curious why you view Lara differently than you view Pratt in terms of needing MLB exposure?

Of note, Pratt was 10-0 with a 0.14 ERA his senior year of high school. Bauers' days on the bump might be over. Pratt's Uncle played for Murphy at Arizona State. Just another story in the Brewers' FO thinking outside the box to get Pratt (some other guys can clean up my memory if it isn't crystal clear) ... but Pratt was a Top 45 talent coming out of high school but wanted to play at Ole Miss back home and said as much so teams stayed away thinking he was unsignable. The Brewers went underslot ahead of him and were able to drop an extra million+ on his signing bonus to get him to sign in the 6th rd. Creative/crafty by the FO to get him here in the first place... Hopefully it is a forever good story for us.
