Optically is interesting too because I think a lot of Brewers' fans would say the Cubs are red hot right now and a lot of Brewers' fans would say the Brewers are limping along. -
I am fully on board with you calling Ortiz "Pena" and confusing everybody (x2!) here into a hysteria because they missed your comment here and don't get the reference. Great movie.

Perspective is an amazing thing. If he was wearing Cardinals colors still there is a decent percentage of me that would see this and immediately think "man, St. Louis is a clown show." ... But my immediate thought when I saw this was "hell yeah".

Would we win more without him? My personal opinion is no, I don't think so. I think there are better in game guys who could handle the position but I just am not sure if there are better guys out there who could lead a band of 'misfits' the way he does. This is just my opinion... but Murphy is a classic case of "love him for who he is, don't hate him for who he isn't" type of thing to me. What he brings to the position is an ability to lead and brings guys together, make them believe in themselves. I think it is a super fair critique to say some of his in game decisions and some of his lineup concoctions are suspect. I just see guys like Bauers and Vaughn and Megill and Isaac Collins and Blake Perkins and Frelick and Mitchell and Priester and Durbin and Nick Mears and Grant Anderson etc etc etc ... and I just wonder how much of what they provide/d for us in the last 36 months is because of who their leader is. Would those guys and others have had as much success with Counsell's cold embrace being what greeted them in the dugout every day? I think critiquing Murph is fair game and an opinion I wouldn't challenge. I also think we have a good one leading us and the warts he has are just another piece to the puzzle that we are needing to overcome, while also acknowledging those warts are few compared to the asset that he is.

I guess I would ask why moving from Ortiz/Hamilton/Rengifo to Pratt/Ortiz/Hamilton and moving from Bauers/Frelick/Perkins to Bauers/Lara/Frelick* isn't considered an in-season upgrade? I was open to a surprise bat at the deadline ... just had no idea who that could have been. I think Civale was a trade deadline holdover from '24. -
When Yelich comes to bat with a runner on first AND second base open ... I wonder if that first pitch should be an auto hit and run. Half+ of his at bats end in a ground ball anyway - might as well get the middle infielders off their toes and see if you can't create a hole for yourself. Simplify the at bat, you are swinging at this first pitch one no matter what, put it in play. Hit a ground ball at the shortstop and we have ourselves a rally. I say that with 50% seriousness and 50% blue font.

The biggest shock to me this trade deadline was the lack of movement to "unclutter" the log jam of guys that are holding up promotions. As mentioned above, the only guy who has a fairly obvious promotion now available is Payne. Not that you trade guys just to trade guys... but I thought teams would be all over our phone lines to get some of our AA and AAA "extras".

Exactly. Their money spends the same as anyone else's and they need to be kept happy to keep showing up the same ... but this maybe isn't the kind of carrot to throw them :(

We have such a logjam of infielders in the minors that I assumed pitching was going back but was hoping it was a Boeve or O'Rae headliner. I guess we have the outfield set at the big league level for a bit.. but I didn't think we'd shave off two of our best OF prospects per se. Deep breath.

Lot to take in. The optics of the deadline to the casual fan should and shouldn't play a factor in making moves. It is an interesting dynamic. There are many, many fans who will be at the game tonight who have no idea who either Ragsdale or Frias are so they will see this trade and be great with it. Then there are a lot here who would not have done Frias straight up for May/Jojo.

Nevermind. I just saw you made your account less than a day ago and have posted over 30 times, including saying a part of you hopes the Brewers tank the year. I don't need to be a part of this.

You are just saying things to say things. Watch this... You know full well the guys on the team are excited and inspired that the Brewers front office believe in them enough to get the job done without bringing in hired help. This could be the XFactor in them going on a run here. Young guys starting to believe in themselves... Just as nonsensical to say my thing without any shred of evidence to back it up.

This is actually a really good comparison I think. All of the elite quarterbacks and outside position groups always went to the big name schools and we had to get really good at a different brand of football to compete. Won us a ton of games, but it always seemed we got out done at the end by a team of alpha athletes. Badgers fans now are longing for the Alvarez days coincidentally.

It's always hard to witness fan's first trade deadlines. You guys are in the anger phase right now, grieving will come probably Tuesday. The Brewers will win three of their next five games and Gausman will lose his first start with the Cubs and you will forget all about this experience by mid-August.
