  1. If we're getting Aviles instead of Betancourt I'll sing.
  2. I remember there was a report that the Royals wanted "up-the-middle talent". I guess Doug Melvin was listening (allegedly).
  3. I swear if this rumor is false, I'm gonna lose it...
  4. It all depends on who's giving and who's taking...
  5. So this signing is basically just the Phillies feeling more comfortable about game 4s in the playoffs, right? It's not like we can say "now this makes them a playoff contender". They were already penciled in as NL East champs just like any other year. I understand it was Lee's choice, but Philly still made an offer. I guess the difference between a Roy Oswalt start and a Joe Blanton start once a series is worth the gajillions they now owe Lee.
  6. I'd rather have 2 years of Blanton than 3 of Pavano. But I'd really like to have somebody better and 0 of both. But maybe that's being unrealistic.
  7. Really? Good god. If Brett Lawrie is truly worth Shaun Marcum Zack Greinke must be Bob Gibson. He's really good but he's not THAT good.
  8. I'm excited. One name I hoped the Brewers would target. I'll guess Bucci and Rivas. Too little?
  9. If this is seriously a possibility I would hope that DM does everything possible to help make it happen. I just don't know where else the pitching help is going to come from. I know a lot of posters here, including me, have attached themselves to some of our farm system's best, but I would trade just about anything to get a guy like Greinke. Assuming the package is all current minor-leaguers, the Brewers would instantly become a legitimate playoff contender and a really tough out once they get there for a couple years. I would be really disappointed if Milwaukee is on his no-trade list. If nothing else it would just kill my false hopes.
  10. I think if you can find a way to acquire Greinke without parting with Rogers or Jeffress I say do it. But I'm not sure if that's possible.
  11. It's up to Carlos to accept a bench role, as far as I'm concerned. Could be an automatic pinch run/SB option every night. I didn't realize he was formerly a SS...like the idea of him getting work at more positions to make him more versatile. I think he'd be the ultimate weapon coming off the bench, but I don't get the impression he's interested in that.
  12. Yeah, concussions aren't "bad" in the NFL because they've just ignored them for years. It's completely out of control.
  13. Being dull and generally disliked (or at best people seem indifferent to him) makes him a worse manager than someone who has a better ability to connect with people, motivate, etc... I'm not saying that they would have won 90 games or anything, just that it would have made the team better. And there is absolutely no way to prove that.
  14. Hate to be the grinch, but I won't get excited until one of these guys establishes himself as a starter. Rogers is the closest but he has major control issues. Jeffress hasn't started at all this year and has had even more problems with command as a starter in the minors. I watch games now just to see these guys, which is great, but as far as having a huge impact on the team? Doesn't seem realistic at this point. I like how the Brewers have 100000 potential bullpen arms for next season, but it won't matter until they get better starting pitching.
  15. Plus he's really good.
  16. I think Gamel is beyond the "needs to play every day" treatment. He's major league ready offensively, now they just have to decide what to do with him. Very excited for Jeffress though, can't wait to finally see him in live action.
  17. A bit anti-climactic but still pretty cool. Great outing for Odorizzi.
  18. I wouldn't be all that shocked if Sam Narron got a call-up at some point before the end of the season. Feels like he's been in the organization forever and up until recently he's had a really nice year at AAA. Surely not a long-term option in the rotation, but I wouldn't mind finally getting a look at a guy I've been absentmindedly following for the last several years.
  19. So Johnson would've won automatically had he gotten into the playoff? Come on. Kaymer completely earned that win, a fact that will be completely overlooked because of Johnson's miscue. And it's not a stupid rule. If you've ever played golf you'd know why the rule is in place.
  20. This was just crappy all-around. It was the correct call, but it just comes off as bad form due to the timing. In reality Dustin should've been aware of the local rule and someone - whether his caddy, his playing partner (Watney, though apparently he doesn't read the rules either...), or even the rules official should have made sure he knew he was in a bunker. It was just a matter of several people getting caught up in the moment and forgetting their surroundings. We all wish they would've looked it over but there are no exceptions; you can't ground the club in a bunker. It potentially improves the lie and despite the fact that it clearly wasn't intentional it still happened. I can guarantee there won't be spectators standing around in bunkers at Whistling Straits in 2015. That's the main problem here. If the gallery hadn't made the trap unrecognizable this is never an issue. Plus it would help if the players *actually* read the rules.
  21. Because the Yost decision came straight from the top? I thought it was pretty obvious that wasn't Doug's call. He seemed as upset about it as anyone when it happened.
  22. I think it's crucial the Brewers move McGehee this offseason. No matter what teams are offering for his services his value will never be higher. It's not a matter of him being fluky good, it's a matter of him being cheap MLB production, which I imagine must make him attractive on the trade market. Unfortunately I don't think the Brewers are willing to sell high on a guy who has won over the fans with good performance and being extremely likable. The bottom line is get the best pitching possible through trades this offseason but I have to think teams will be more interested in McGehee than Gamel at this point, right?
  23. He doesn't have one reliable off speed pitch.
