  1. Definitely not Posey. A lot of the front offices around baseball think the Brewers need a starting pitcher. Not sure if this is something that Stearns is looking for or if this is just other front offices opinion on the Brewers roster. When I talked to my friend he felt as though the Brewers weakness is their starting pitching even though they have good young pitching he is skeptical that it will work. The Brewers being linked to all of these starting pitchers is not just smoke being blown by beat writers and others. He didn't say who in the Brewers system as he is not familiar with the Brewers minor league system. He said something similar to what the Yankees gave up for Paxton is what he would call the going rate. Again these are all his opinion and not any insider information.
  2. Take this for what it is worth but here we go: Spoke with a friend who works for the Dbacks. Asked him a few things on the baseball off season. He said the Dbacks are aggressively trying to trade Greinke and haven't found any takers a few things here and there that fell apart but nothing serious. Says Milwaukee didn't come up when discussing Greinke. Goldschmidt talks are in the early stages right now Dbacks could extend Goldschmidt or wait until the trade deadline to trade him. He was very general on that but he believes Goldschmidt won't be traded. Also asked him about Patrick Corbin and he believes he will get a 5-7 year deal at about $20m a season. The holdup right now are the Indians, Mets, and the Giants. Though he doesn't believe the Mets will trade either Degrom or Syndergaard if the Cano and Diaz trade goes through. Before the news broke he said the Brewers were desperately trying to find a trade partner to trade Schoop. This started around September everyone in the league didn't believe the Brewers would extend an offer to Schoop. Asked him if there were any potential trades he thought could happen and he believes the Brewers and the Giants are a good fit for a trade. But he doesn't see the Brewers and the Marlins being a good fit. He went on to state the Marlins are over valuing Realmuto and they are not going to get the value that they want from him and he will be with the Marlins until the trade deadline. He says it is the same problem with Goldschmidt though with Goldschmidt there are not that many teams looking for a 1B or a DH. Value for the 1B and DH types is extremely low. Finally I asked him about Moustakas and he said he shouldn't have declined his option. The 3B market is just about as bad as the 1B and DH market he will be lucky to get 3-years. He predicts that Moustakas will resign with the Brewers for 1-2 years. Again take it for what it is worth just a conversation I had with a friend who works in the front office for the Dbacks.
  3. Outdoor hockey games are awful for every viewer. Says who? You? When I went to the one at Wrigley it was rather fun.
  4. You are over estimating the trade market. Maybe the Astros will give up one of their top prospects and that will drive up the cost but Brown and Stokes is not that far off of Bumgarner's trade value. Syndergard and DeGrom have the highest value and then you have Kluber and Bauer. Not to mention there are a few free agents who are going to bring that cost down for Bungarner. The Giants are not going to get a haul for Bumgarner. They will get 1 maybe 2 top 100 prospects and Brown is a top 100 type.
  5. Maybe Albers, Anderson, Braun, Thames, Schoop and a prospect for Diaz and Cano plus cash?
  6. I wouldn't even do a Braun for Cano plus prospects deal. That contract is just ugly it looked ok when he signed it but wow now it is just horrible.
  7. I thought Mertz selected WI because he wanted to be an early enroll.
  8. Close and it would depend on what the Mets think of Woodard and Ray. Probably need a third prospect like Brown if you are not including Hiura or Burnes.
  9. Yes, it was horrible worst experience ever. I'm not delving into this any further because I can see where it's gonna go. But the "I stopped reading when I saw this guy's name" is pretty lame. People say stuff like that when they want an out. I stop reading anything by Krueger because he is an idiot. It has nothing to do with wanting an out, I have read enough of his opinions that I know almost exactly what he is going to say before even getting through half way through the article. It is dumb Keynesian fake economics theory.
  10. Yes, it was horrible worst experience ever.
  11. The Brewers would have to move Braun to someone to fit Greinke in the budget. Without moving Braun there is no way the Brewers could take on Greinke's salary and Braun is not going anywhere.
  12. I stopped reading the bloomberg article once I saw the name Alan Krueger and the usatoday article just spews the same horrible economic theories. Thomas Sowell and others are far and above smarter than Krueger ever will be in economics. https://www.nationalreview.com/2011/03/union-myths-thomas-sowell/ A functioning union is not needed for a healthy middle and lower class. Actually unions hurt the middle class and the lower class more than they help them. Unions look out for their workers as much as a corporation does which is basically not at all.
  13. Would it make sense to have an NHL game played at Lambeau? I would think a Detroit vs Nashville game would draw a lot of fans. The real question then would the Packers allow something like this?
  14. Hiura named AFL mvp . https://www.mlb.com/news/brewers-keston-hiura-arizona-fall-league-mvp/c-300866128
  15. All good points especially about cell phones, internet, and cable. The only thing I see though is that cable is being replaced by Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu. It is slowly happening but cable is starting to die slowly. Cables major subscribers are the boomers and once they are gone you will start to see the death kneel of cable. Cable companies are already doing the transition from cable TV to internet only. There are also more and more jobs popping up that are work from home where one person can take either a part-time role or a full-time role working at home. Some of these jobs are low skilled and low paying jobs but they are there. Some call center jobs are now moving to work at home jobs as I know UPS and a few other companies have started to move from actual physical call centers to work at homes. It is cheaper to hire someone to work at home and set them up with a phone at their house and have them clock in when they can than it is to set up a call center and set up daily schedules for those employees. Now for retiring there are a bunch of other ideas that you can do to retire at an earlier age. For example I choose to be more frugal and put in 10% of my paycheck to my retirement account. I also do $200 a month to an annuity. While I won't get a lot putting in $200 a month to the annuity I will get about $800 a month which I plan to use for any medical issues. I probably won't retire at an early age but that is by choice and not by financial concerns. Even when I go on vacation I can't be on vacation for more than a day or two as I get overly bored and I am looking for something to do. I usually check in on work and read emails as I am out and address any issues that have come up. I just can't do the vacationing stuff even if I am doing something I am extremely bored and need something to do. I am thinking my retirement will be from my current job and then transitioning to something that doesn't pay all that well but keeps me busy. I might just become a professor at a smaller school and that is how I will spend my retirement.
  16. It was nice not seeing the Bucks panicking after being down by so much in the first half. The continued to play their game and waited for the Bulls to cool down which they did. The Bulls were shooting incredibly hot in the first half especially from the 3. They cooled off in the 3rd and the Bucks got hot in the 3rd. Middleton couldn't even buy a bucket in the 1st and then started to get going in the later part of the 2nd.
  17. Watching the Bucks on ESPN and is it just me or does Doris Burke just sound absolutely horrible calling a game. It is like she is completely bored and uninterested in the game. No excitement at all in her voice. Ben Stein has more excitement in his voice than she does.
  18. Nice straw man.
  19. You wouldn't even fill it for 80 dates. I doubt it would even be half full for all of the home games. You might be able to sell out on the weekend games but I don't see the weekdays selling out. The demand is also being overstated due to the personal bias being discussed here. At best you are looking at about 40% of the days for the games filling up the hotel. You have another 200+ days to fill the hotel. Unless you are willing to pay a premium to stay at the hotel $200+ per night I don't see how this is a viable option.
  20. Speculation here but I think Thon hasn't been in the games yet as Bud doesn't feel comfortable with him playing significant minutes meaning he is either not running the plays correctly or he is not meshing correctly in the way they are playing. Bud has already called a timeout when they were winning to yell at Henson when he didn't run the play correctly in the 4th quarter. I think this was the game against Toronto when this happened. As for FA next year I think the Bucks will have enough and they could go over as the 20-21 season only Giannis, Snell, Ilyasova, Wilson, and DiVincenzo are on the roster. So the Bucks have enough room to sign both Middleton and Brogdon if they want to. Bledsoe will obviously be gone as I don't see how they can afford him which I am fine with. I am not sure I would keep Brogdon as he looks like he is better as a 6th man than he is as a starter. I think the Bucks may trade Wilson at some point and after this season Snell is easier to trade but after the 19-20 season he has some value where you can trade him for a draft pick (2nd round) with the expiring contract. For this year I think a trade with Cleveland for something like Dellavedova, Wilson, and a protected 2nd round pick for Korver and Dekker. Korver replaces Dellavedova at a smaller rate. Korver played for Bud in Atlanta so he is familiar with what Bud is trying to do. Dekker is an expiring contract after this year which sheds Wilson's salary next year. This then allows Cleveland to be bad this year and next year. I fully expect Love to be traded once he is back healthy again and once he is eligible to be traded. Another trade option could be Dragan Bender on the Suns. He would be an expiring as the Suns have declined his 19-20 option making him a free agent after this season. I like Bender over Thon as I believe Bender is more advanced offensively and defensively than Thon is. If the Bucks grab Korver that means they could trade Brogdon to the Suns for Bender plus something more to even out that trade.
  21. Castellanos has the same value as Jesus. Castellanos is not an OF he is a 1B/DH type. Castellanos was worse than Thames in the OF last year. Davies for Castellanos would be a fair trade with the Tigers getting more value out of it than the Brewers would but it is close enough right now. Castellanos as a 1B/DH is equal to trade value in Jesus. The problem here is that the Tigers are going to want a younger player with more control for Castellanos. Davies is close to that but I would believe they would prefer someone who is in the minors versus someone who is already in the majors and has eaten up some of their cost controlled years.
  22. Jung-Ho Kang is an interesting option at 3B. I wonder if he could play 2B he has played some SS. Wouldn't do more than 2-years I would prefer Marwin and I am leery on DJ.
  23. Castellanos took a huge step back last year defensively. His advanced defensive metrics: -19 DRS; -12.9 UZR; -12.3 UZR/150; -20 def WAR Every single advanced stat says he is a bad OF maybe if he switches to LF he would be better but I wouldn't count on that. All of Castellanos value is in his offense and that is it. If you trade for Castellanos he either has to play 1B or LF. Castellanos has some nice stats against LHP. He also has some decent OBP skills he did take 49 walks in 2018 when he was basically the only offensive threat on the Tigers. Not sure what it would take but the Tigers are probably going to try to trade him like he is an OF and get at least one or two decent prospects for him. He is really a 1B which drops his value significantly.
  24. The Brewers don't unless they include Hiura and Burnes as the Braves can basically match any offer and beat any offer the Brewers put out there.
  25. This team is garbage how were they ranked so high in the preseason?
