  1. I would take a flier on Hughes but I am not sure the Rays would want Aoki though you do have the right player that I believe the Rays will trade in Hellickson. Depends on what the A's what for him. He doesn't look to have all that much value right now it could be a good buy low and then sell high during the season if he stays healthy that is. I have always liked Anderson but he sure has been injured a lot. The most I would give up for Anderson would be Gennett or Aoki. I am not sure he is worth more than that especially with the injuries and how he pitched last year.
  2. BA is a horrible basketball play by play guy. My ears are bleeding from listening to this broadcast.
  3. Not really if the players come back and play good enough they can be traded for something the Brewers are missing which are good prospects. I would take the chance on Johnson and try to flip him for a prospect at the deadline. Johnson wouldn't be blocking anyone in the minors that would be deserving of a spot and he would more than likely be traded by the time he was actually blocking someone. Nelson will start out in AAA next year and that is the only prospect he would be blocking and that really isn't a problem as Nelson needs to work on his control more before he should be called up to the majors.
  4. I think you missed the point... They tried to be objective by assigning point values to players in each leagues top 20 prospects, then the league with AAA weighting more heavily than A ball, then turn those numerical numbers into a list of near term MLB impact by total points. Nope check out the prospects they listed for the Yankees all of them are AA or below and the majority of them are A+ or below. If it were near term MLB impact the Yankees should have a lower score but they do not. This list is garbage and is not at all objective. It is a rather poor way to judge a teams farm system strength. I am not arguing about how good or bad the Brewers system is I am arguing that what they are using to judge a teams farm system strength is rather dumb and the farthest thing from being objective. The Dodgers still have Puig as a prospect in this list and the Rangers have Profar listed both of those players bypassed the prospect stage a long time ago and now are rookies. There is a difference between being a prospect and a rookie. If you take Puig away from the Dodgers their ranking slips and it puts them more in line of where they should be. The Rangers don't change all that much and would be a few spots lower. I just can not get behind this list as it is a very subjective list.
  5. The Brewers already have prospects better than or on the same level as Davis, Gindl, Schafer and Gennett. I am not sure what they have to do with the Brewers getting their act together unless you are talking about the Brewers drafting players that are actually impact talents unlike Davis, Gindl, Schafer and Gennett who are not impact talents.
  6. I don't see how Coulter was mishandled. It was the injuries that derailed him this year and he may ultimately have to move off of the catcher position which I believe would be the correct move but he is still fairly young yet so it is hard to tell where he is development wise.
  7. That is one horrible list. I don't see how you can rank the Yankees farm system so high. The Tigers also have a far worse farm system than the Brewers do.
  8. Not to take this thread even more off topic but the Brewers are not missing Hardy, Parra, Gamel, LaPorta, Lucroy, or Hart type of prospects the Brewers actual have plenty of those type of prospects in the minors. The type of prospects that the Brewers are missing are the Weeks, Gallardo, Braun, and Fielder types. The Brewers have the B and C type prospects Hart, Hardy, Gamel, etc. but they are missing any type of A type prospects Braun and Fielder. Wrong. All that you list there, with the exception of Lucroy, were top 100 BA prospects at one time or another. Hardy, Gamel, and LaPorta were top 20-30 if I'm not mistaken. That means they all were A, A- prospects at worst. Obviously, some are going to flame out. But the fact that they are in OUR organization should give us a leg up on determining which ones will and which ones don't. DM, on numerous occasions, said Gamel was "untouchable." That should tell you all you need to know about DM's understanding of prospects. The highest ranking I would have every given Hardy would have been a B+ grade which means he is a possible All Star level player but won't be a Super star level player. I don't think any rankings ever had Hardy higher than a B+ grade. You don't have to be an A or an A- grade prospect to be ranked in the top 100 or in the top 25 eihter. Peralta was ranked in the top 30ish player and he is not an A grade prospect he is more of a B leaning towards a B- prospect at that time there were a lot of question marks about how he would transition to the majors and a lot of those question marks have come true. Gamel was never an A grade prospect either as he had a lot of question marks concerning him. The A type prospects are reserved for players like Braun, Fielder, Trout, Harper, etc. There is no way Hardy would ever be given a grade of an A as a prospect he just is not any where close to those type of players talent wise. There are a lot of players that are B and B+ grade prospects that make it into the top 20-30 prospect lists. It all depends on what these guys are looking at. For example I wouldn't rate Billy Hamilton any higher than a B and yet he still gets his name in the top 20-30 prospect lists. Actually when it comes down to it there are very few A or even A- type prospects in the top 10 let alone in the top 30. I believe the highest rated prospect in the last 10 years for the Brewers has been Weeks at the 5th spot no other Brewer prospect has finished any higher. These lists are not all that accurate and are actually a poor way to measure a teams farm system. I am not sure exactly what would make a better review of a teams farm system but looking at a list that is very subjective and stating it is the be all end all of a teams farm system Gamel was untouchable because at times that was the Brewers best prospect and for awhile their only good prospect. I believe some of the posters on here had Gamel as labeled as an untouchable prospect so I don't really get at what you are saying here.
  10. If the Giants had offered him a QO they still could have signed him to a multi year deal. Not sure where you got this information from but it is incorrect. The QO is exactly like offering a player arbitration previously the team can still negotiate with the player for a longer term deal they are not locked in at only being able to sign the player to the QO.
  11. I think the Brewers take a bat again this year and I think Jack Flaherty is the pick here. I don't believe he has the arm to play 3B and may have to move to the OF or 1B it is a risk I would be willing to take. I believe he will be the BPA by the time the Brewers are picking unless someone like Michael Cederoth is available. I believe Flaherty could be a better version of Weeks more power with just as quick of bat speed before the wrist injuries to Rickie. I believe where the Brewers will make a pick for a pitcher is during the competitive balance pick and I believe they will take Justus Sheffield. I don't believe Sheffield is a 1st round pick but he is close to being one and I hope he is available around the 39th pick. He isn't an overpowering lefty but he does have the potential to have 3 plus pitches. Sheffield may very well be a 2nd round pick also as there is not much upside left for him. Another player I like in the competitive balance pick is Kel Johnson OF/1B who has a lot of power. If the Brewers go pitcher with the 1st pick I hope they take him as he would add power to the Brewers farm system which they are lacking a lot of.
  12. The Brewers do not have the prospects to get Price. You are talking about talents like Profar, Machado, Bogaerts, Trout, or Harper and it won't be just one of those players you would have to give up but two of them plus a couple of B+ and B- prospects. In the end I don't see any team giving up the talent that the Rays would need in return for Price. I believe the Rays will hold onto Price unless they are overwhelmed by someones offer. The Brewers currently do not have anyone that profiles as an A- prospect let alone an A or an A+ grade prospect. The Brewers have a lot of B+ to B- and lower prospects but that is not enough for the Rays to even consider listening to a trade with the Brewers for Price. Hellickson is is someone that the Brewers could get from the Rays but that is about it. If I were the Brewers I would look into seeing if I could get Hellickson and Zobrist from the Rays depending on the price it would take to get both.
  13. I wouldn't call those players as being success unless you are talking about wanting the Brewers to take low ceiling players which is going to bring down the wrath of other posters who have been howling about the Brewers doing this exact strategy. BPA should be the strategy if it doesn't work it is fine as you are taking the best player that is available when you are drafting.
  14. A salary cap would not help in keeping their own players through the length of their careers either.
  15. Just because there will be a salary cap does not mean there will be parity or even come close to parity. When was the last time the Browns were relevant in the NFL? How about the Jaguars which are a complete joke right now is the salary cap helping them become relevant? What about Tampa Bay in the NFL are they relevant also because of the salary cap? If money really does buy championships then why did the Yankees and the Blue Jays not make the playoffs? I believe you can look at all of the sports and come to the conclusion that the teams that spend the most will be competitive teams and the teams that do not will not be competitive. This is true with or without a salary cap.
  16. If you haven't picked up the new Alter Bridge album then you are missing out on some real good music. I am really loving the new album.
  17. If Butler is this bad wouldn't him playing more minutes be a team tanking?
  18. Again no. You should never be making a pick based on need ever. I don't care where you are picking you never pick based on need you always take the best player available. If the BPA is a pitcher and you are stacked at pitching guess what you are taking the pitcher because they are the BPA.
  19. Gennett shouldn't bat any higher than 7th. He shouldn't be getting a lot of PA's a year.
  20. I can see why he was fired as he didn't really get all that much out of Castro and Rizzo. Rizzo looked as though he regressed talent wise this year which is a reflection on the manager. When you have a team where you are trying to build around young players and one of your best prospect looks as though they regressed from the previous year you have a problem. I don't believe the Cubs were looking at how many games Sveum won or lost but at how the younger players progressed with him as the manager.
  21. This is basically it unless a team comes in and offers a fairly good prospect I don't see a reason to trade Ramirez just to trade him. If you are not getting back something of value for Ramirez then I don't see the point in trading him.
  22. I think you can get something good it is just how much are you willing to pay of Weeks salary. I would pay a majority of the contract if it meant getting a decent prospect in return as the money is already budgeted for Weeks next year so paying for a part of his contract doesn't really have much of an impact on the teams budget.
  23. The players that will be available from 6-12 are going to be about equal talent wise in this draft. I would go even further and say the players from 6-20 will be about equal in talent which is not a bad thing. This draft is rather stacked in talent but not so much in college pitchers as I don't really see anyone who has ace potential mostly #1's and a few #2's with an assortment of #3's and #5's mixed in. The high school bats and pitchers are going to be very intriguing this year. This is not the year to draft a college pitcher as there is a lot of question marks on the ones that will be available even if the Brewers were to pick in the top 5. As for the money it really isn't a concern as the Brewers have never spent all that much on international talent so that pool isn't all that important as I don't see the Brewers changing their strategy with international free agents. In the draft there are ways to be creative in spending money wisely. You can do what the Royals did last year and take a guy who will sign at or below the recommended slot value. This would then give you more money to spend on players in the competitive balance round and the 2-10 rounds. On the draft board for the Brewers: Michael Cederoth RHP San Diego State, Sean Reid-Foley RHP, Tyler Kolek RHP, Sean Newcomb LHP Hartford, Ti’Quan Forbes SS, and Kodi Medeiros LHP. Cederoth and Newcomb are both big bodied players that the Brewers have targeted in the past. Depending on how both progress in terms of their accuracy they could both be available when the Brewers pick. I would watch for Ti’Quan Forbes as he rises up the ranks this summer. I don't see him as a top 5 talent right now but he sure does have a lot of potential and if he could stick at SS he reminds me of a more athletic Tulowitzki. He may not develop as much power as Tulowitzki has but he should be as good as Tulo is defensively at SS.
  24. Apparently Roenicke was to be fired at some point this season according to some posters here.
