  1. Davis is not going to be just coming off the bench. If you go by Roenicke's past with Kapler and other players we should expect to see Davis play in RF or 1B from time to time. Also Davis is going to play a lot of Sunday games where either Braun or Aoki will be getting a day off. Schafer will play for Gomez on those Sunday games also. Davis is going to get his chance to play and I wouldn't be surprised if he is playing in RF more than people will want him to be playing there.
  2. Brewers 2013 opening day roster: Pitchers 13 Axford Badenhop Estrada Fiers Figaro Gallardo Gonzalez Gorzelanny Henderson Kintzler Lohse Narveson Peralta Catchers 2 Lucroy Maldonado INF 5 Gonzalez Betancourt Ramirez Segura Weeks OF Aoki Braun Davis Gomez Schafer http://mlblogsbrewers.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/2013-opening-day-roster.pdf The Brewers have a nice bench with Davis and Schafer not so sure on Betancourt and Gonzalez as being the RH bench bats. The Real question now is who does Hart replace or will the Brewers just drop one of the pitchers probably Figaro or Betancourt if they decide to keep 13 pitchers would be my guess.
  3. Depending on the players around him Gennett could be a very good top of the order bat or even better at the 7th or 8th spot in the lineup. You don't need power at every position to win games having one or two players who you put at the lower end of your batting order who are mostly singles and doubles hitters isn't all that bad. Now if you would be talking about Gennett at 3B and batting the 3rd or 4th hole traditionally your power bats then yeah it would be a problem. I think Gennett would be an average to a below average starting 2B and again depending on who he was playing with that should be fine.
  4. Looks like you are going to get your way there This should be a very fun and exciting year to follow the T-Rats.
  5. We are not even close to rebuilding as long as MA is the owner of the Brewers. Maybe if Braun, Gallardo, Weeks, and Segura all had career ending injuries then we would be close to rebuilding which would really be a forced rebuilding. I just can not see MA going through a rebuilding process. It sucks though because I would really like to see what the Brewers could get for Gallardo. I really wish the Brewers would have traded Gallardo to the Royals for what the Rays got in trading Shields to them. Those players would look real nice right now for the Brewers. I fully expect Hart to be resigned with Gallardo getting a rather lengthy and expensive contract extension.
  6. If they made me Commissioner I would: 1.) Realign the divisions: AL: Division 1: Yankees, Red Sox, Nationals, Mets and Phillies Division 2: Cubs, Tigers, Cardinals, White Sox, and Reds Division 3: Angels, Dodgers, Giants, Rangers, and Mariners NL: Division 1: Orioles, Rays, Braves, Marlins, and Blue Jays Division 2: Brewers, Indians, Royals, Pirates, and Twins Division 3: Rockies, Astros, Diamondbacks, Padres, and A's 2.) DH for everyone 3.) Legalize HGH I want to see players be healthy and not sitting on the bench half of the year. 4.) International draft minus Cuba and Japan as these players are not amateurs. 5.) Pool all revenue made by the teams and distribute it evenly with a stipulation that a team must maintain a $80m payroll from the beginning of the season to the end. 6.) Get rid of the compensation rules for free agents and instead just have a franchise tag a team can place on any player once. If a player is signed who is a franchised that team will give up their 1st round pick (no protected picks) and if a team signs multiple franchised players they have to give up their next 1st round pick and are not eligible to sign a franchised player the following off season or more if more than 2 franchised players are signed. 7.) Get rid of Loria. 8.) Allow teams to trade draft picks.
  7. I'm old now. The tubes confuse me. Get off my lawn. Any combination of Gran torino and Yuni B makes me smile... I'd like to add a dash of Waterworld in there for perfection. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qDdnwPOuokU/TxNMk4iUxFI/AAAAAAAAAoI/HyLL3sHS4jg/s200/clint-eastwood-disgusted-gif.gif http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m3gdjk1Vfx1rnj9uho1_250.gif
  8. I prefer LED over Plasma so to me yes. It is still a good idea to see the TV's and conpare them yourself if you haven't done so already.
  9. You need to consider the time value of money. This makes the deal a little better than if it was a straight 3 years, $11 mil/year. Spreading it out saves the Brewers around $1 mil over the course of the contract. [sarcasm]But we are paying him after he is gone oh noes what are we doing.[/sarcasm] Serious side this looks like it is the end for Rogers and probably either Narveson or Fiers won't make the starting rotation. Trading Fiers to the Padres would probably be the best move for both the Brewers and Fiers. I wouldn't mind seeing the Brewers also dealing Thornburg also as he may bring back a nice piece would prefer a prospect preferably a position player. I believe the rotation will settle in as Gallardo, Lohse, Estrada, Narveson, Peralta/Fiers/Rogers/Thornburg/did I miss anyone else?
  10. I love Kyle Blanks and I have advocated trading for him in the past a few times. I wonder if the Padres would take Fiers for Blanks and either James Darnell or Brad Boxberger. Not a great haul for Fiers but the Brewers would be getting a decent prospect about the same value wise as Fiers in Boxberger. Fiers would be someone who would thrive at Petco and in the NL West as long as he doesn't have to pitch to many games in either Colorado or Arizona.
  11. MLB and the MLBPA are looking to have a deal done by June for an international draft. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/03/mlb-mlbpa-talking-worldwide-draft.html This may start to even the playing field a little bit on international players depending on how they decide to implement this.
  12. Not the be all end all but ESPN has the Badgers predicted as being the 4th seed in the East and Marquette as the 4th seed in the Midwest. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology
  13. Also if Davis would replace Green off the bench I would be all for this. Bianchi is a more valuable bench player than Green is right now. I wouldn't even mind seeing Melvin trading Green for cash at this point.
  14. Why not? Its not like Braun is going to be healthy the whole year and in a pinch I don't see the Brewers being all that concerned and playing him in RF. I have seen worse players play RF in a pinch or for a day or two or even more (Brad Nelson, Adam Dunn, Gary Sheffield, Nate Mclouth, Bernie Williams, Brennan Boesch, Bobby Abreu, etc.). I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers played Davis in RF for a few games and then subbed him out late in the game for someone like Schafer or Aoki. I also wouldn't be surprised if he played a few games at 1B and don't forget there are interleague games throughout the whole season so he will be the DH or play in LF for Braun in a few of those games.
  15. I don't believe there are many GM's that will trade off parts when there is a reasonable chance of contention other than Friedman consistently. Hart was shopped a few times and I believe the best offer to ever come out for Hart was Beachy (I believe it was Beachy) and Jonathan Sanchez. Beachy would have been an interesting target for Melvin but that Sanchez for Hart trade would have been a really bad one. I believe at the time Melvin was trying to get one of the younger arms from the Giants and all the Giants wanted to give up at that time was Sanchez or nothing. I know there was that far out there rumor of Hart for Cain but that wasn't even close to being realistic. You could say that Melvin should have pulled the trigger on Fielder for Cain but that is the only non trade that I can think of that would have been a big benefit to the Brewers.
  16. Any kind of suspension that MLB would come up with would get struck down by an arbitrator and they would basically state this. Now if MLB went after every single player that is named in connection then it wouldn't be a witch hunt but to just go after two other players specifically then it is just a witch hunt. I can not see how an arbitrator would rule in favor of MLB to uphold any kind of a suspension if a players defense is that this is just a witch hunt.
  17. I believe both Marquette and WI could easily get bounced in the 1st round of the tourney. With WI horrible shot selection and combined with some very bad shooting I can see them getting bounced in the 1st round by just about any team. With Marquette they haven't learned the whole season on how to step on a teams neck and kill them off. Look at the Notre Dame game in the Big East tourney and also look at the Georgetown game and there was a couple of other games where Marquette was up and then just let the other team back into the game. This is a huge flaw for Marquette as they are not able to put a team away when they have the other team beat. If Marquette is matched up with a team that has a good inside game that may also be the end of Marquette or any team that forces Marquette to actually shoot long range jump shots it will be ugly. I have no faith in any player on Marquette to hit any kind of long range jump shot. But both Marquette and WI could also easily both make it to the sweet 16 and I wouldn't be surprised if one or both make it to the elite 8 and then one of them making it to the final four.
  18. Green and Gamel have very little to no value on the trade market especially Gamel with his recent injury. At best for Green you are looking at someone like Veras who the Brewers got for McGehee and that would be the best case scenario I would expect some journeyman minor league player or cash to be a more likely scenario for Green. Schafer would net the Brewers a player similar to Schafer so not much value there actually Schafer has more value to the Brewers as a 4th or 5th OF than he does on the trade market. Green is already a bench player/platoon player as it is so if he gets traded or not that is what he will be and is. I know I have argued this with you before but Green is not an everyday player and at best he is a platoon player but he is probably more along the lines of a bench player than he is a platoon player. Back to Gomez, I am still not a fan of the signing but it is not as gloom and doom as some have pointed out and it is not all that rosy as others have pointed out either. The signing is nice for the Brewers I would have just done something different than signing Gomez to an extension.
  19. You can do what trwi7 said or you can just sign up for a business account: https://business.twitter.com/
  20. Hah didn't even notice it was written by Jeff Dahn then again I had a hard time even reading the article with the background and the text color that person chose but maybe that was on purpose. The only question I have now is how committed is Puk to play for the Gators? Is it going to cost an early slot money to get him to not play for Florida?
  21. Taking into consideration what Upton and even Bourn got this year in free agency this is an absolute steal. Gomez if he did hit free agency would have easily gotten a 4 or 5 year deal worth on average $10-14m a year. Gomez projects to be about the same as Upton maybe a little bit less than Upton offensively over the next 4 years. Value wise Gomez is on par with Upton and if you compare the contract Gomez received to what Upton got it basically makes this a steal for the Brewers. I agree that Gomez would have to play at his 2010 numbers for this to be a bad investment for the Brewers. Again I don't really agree with this but it is not a bad deal for the Brewers when you consider what he could have gotten in FA.
  22. The more I read about Puk the more I like about him. I am starting to like his pitching a little bit more and more. Also how nonathletic is he? He did play QB in HS. So he can not be that bad can he? I know his size may limit him on how athletic he will be but I am having my doubts on him being as bad as some scouts say he is athletically. Sure he is not going to be someone like Gomez or even Schafer but he can not be as bad as some scouts are making him out to be on the athletic side. If Puk falls to the Brewers I will be very disappointed if the Brewers do not draft him. Even if he doesn't make it as a pitcher his bat should be enough that he can play just about anywhere on the field. I love this article on him.
  23. I hope this does not come true. Davis for Norris would be an extreme overpay for Norris in my opinion. To me Davis is a Beane type of a player and I wouldn't be surprised if Davis ends up with the A's at some point in his career. If you want to target a Bud Norris type the A's have a young version of him in Ian Krol.
  24. I don't agree with this move but I can see the reasoning behind it. The contract is not all that bad though I would rather pay Schafer to play CF at league min than pay Gomez the salary he will be getting. It is not a bad move and the contract is fine it is just not something I would do unless there is another move to be made. Schafer to the Rays for Niemman is probably my guess here. I don't really agree with that as I believe this trade is a couple years to late. At least the Brewers now have some depth in the OF and well we can see what the Twins got this past off season with their depth in the OF. The Twins got some nice players in return for their depth in the OF from the Phillies and the Nationals.
