  1. Yes I know the Brewers needed pitching after the 06 season but there were other options available and better ones than Suppan. Ted Lilly comes to mind and would have been a great pickup by the Brewers at that time along with Meche who would have been a great pick up also. Just going by the stats here for each players 2006 season. Suppan SeasonTeamWLSVGGSIPK/9BB/9HR/9BABIPLOB%GB%HR/FBERAFIPxFIPWAR 2006Cardinals12703232190.04.933.270.99.30172.3 %46.8 %10.8 %4.124.704.661.6 Lilly SeasonTeamWLSVGGSIPK/9BB/9HR/9BABIPLOB%GB%HR/FBERAFIPxFIPWAR 2006Blue Jays151303232181.27.934.011.39.30073.8 %37.7 %12.1 %4.314.794.522.3Meche SeasonTeamWLSVGGSIPK/9BB/9HR/9BABIPLOB%GB%HR/FBERAFIPxFIPWAR 2006Mariners11803232186.27.524.051.16.30070.0 %43.1 %11.3 %4.484.634.502.2 All three had very close IP that year. All three got very similar contracts though Lilly and Suppan are more close than Meche. If it came down to it I would still have taken Lilly over Suppan and it would have been a push in taking Suppan or Meche. All three of these players also had very similar stats in 2006. I know looking at just 1-year is not a good statistical analysis of the situation this is just the easiest and non clutter way to put it on here. Meche and Suppan really do match up really well though if you were just looking at IP Suppan would have been the best player to pick from. Looking at the whole picture Lilly should have been the #1 target followed by Meche and Suppan.
  2. Evidence? Or just more conjecture? The evidence you will never find but Mark A definitely had a strong hand in signing Suppan. Per the reason of the Suppan deal was a hey look at me I am the new owner and I am signing an expensive free agent signing. You know the signing that says I am going to be spending money on the team even though this is foolish spending for a pitcher who is a career #5 pitcher.
  3. Sigh. I hate bunting I don't know why Escobar was even asked to bunt. I wish managers would just abandon the bunt unless it is the pitcher hitting.
  4. For tomorrows game we need to have an over or under on how many pitching changes Larussa will make.
  5. Why because he doesn't have the bat to play at 3B his bat plays a lot better at 2B than it does at 3B. Gennett is still athletic enough to be a SS. Though I do wish Dykstra would have done better at CF last year if he isn't going to be a 2B then CF would probably be the best spot to put him. As for Lawrie he is not a 2B. He should really be the one playing 3B or a corner OF spot.
  6. This is true but talent level Meche and Suppan were about the same maybe an edge to Meche in his stuff is a little bit better than Suppans. The option was out there though and Suppan definitely was the more safer pick in regards to getting someone who would give you about 200 IP every year. I just wish the Brewers would have given Suppan a 3-year deal with an option for a 4th year instead of the 4-year and the option for a 5th year. Though I don't think the Brewers wouldn't have been able to sign anyone for less than 4-years or 5-years that year.
  7. I did see that but he is still having a rather quiet year for what he has been doing this year. Though I do wish the Brewers would move him off of 3B and put him back at 2B where he should be.
  8. Incorrect. Mark A was the one who wanted Suppan and they overpaid for getting him also. There were plenty of other players who were just as good or better than Suppan who were available for the Brewers to pick up Meche, Lilly, and Padilla come to mind. I'm not sure if the Brewers could have gotten Padilla but Lilly and Meche would have been strong probables. The contracts would have been about the same for both Meche and Lilly that Suppan got. The Suppan deal was hey look at me I am the new owner and I am signing an expensive free agent signing. Although the Brewers did need another pitcher who could stay healthy and give them about 200 IP and Suppan did that in his first two years with the Brewers. As for the Hawkins deal that was a good deal and I still believe it was a solid pick up by Melvin this off season it just hasn't panned out. I still believe Hawkins is one of the better relief pitchers the Brewers have right now.
  9. In the OF the Rays are fine with Jennings who will be replacing Crawford next year. So the OF is not really a concern though they do need another corner OF so Hart could make some sense to the Rays but you are not going to get Hellickson in return for Hart. I think you could get Barnese, Wilking Rodriguez, or David Newmann for Hart. Barnese would be pushing it for the top end of the talent you could get in return for Hart. The only reason I put Barnese in here is because of his shoulder issues he had in 2009 which could make him more available to the Brewers in terms of a trade for Hart. I think Rodriguez or Newmann would be more realistic though for a return of Hart. I am not sure in regards to a catcher though if the Rays would or wouldn't need a catcher.
  10. I wouldn't be surprised if Dykstra gets promoted to A+. He is currently hitting .297/.385/.385/.769. I love the OBP from Dykstra this year though he really needs to get his power numbers up. He is having a good quiet year after last years horrible year. I have noticed that no one has even been talking about him lately. I think Cain will be up in AAA once Schafer comes back by the way has anyone heard anything on Schafer and his injury lately?
  11. From what I have been reading I will have to find the one where it states his slider is rather flat and there isn't much of a break in his curve ball. His change up is what intrigues me the most though. From here.
  12. I would be happy with McGuire at 14 if that were the pick for the Brewers. He definitely isn't a #1 type of a pitcher unless his breaking ball pitches get better but he could be a good #2 or #3 type pitcher. Is there something wrong with McGuire for him to be falling in Keith Law's mock draft? He had a healthy 118 strike outs to 41 walks last year. He commands his pitches fairly well and throws a lot of strikes though his curve ball and his slider are not really that good.
  13. The Angels really don't have much to trade for Prince. The Angels will probably trade someone like Reckling for Lee or Kornerko. I'm not sure that the Angels right now would be a good team to trade with if you are looking for something that will help out the Brewers next year both of those players wouldn't be ready by next year the earliest would probably be 2012 and more realistically probably 2013-2014. Not really a trade I would do with the Angels.
  14. Actually not really. There were three or four pitchers who were as good or better than Suppan who Melvin could have gotten. Padilla, Lilly, and Meche were all available and Meche signed a contract similar to what Suppan got. Meche definitely isn't a great pitcher but he would be better than Suppan right now and well Lilly would be injured right now. Though we would be stuck with Meche next year I don't believe he has a buyout in his contract.
  15. I wonder if the Mets would do this now. Was listening to Homer today and he made a good point lets give garbage for garbage. Suppan and Riske are garbage right now and so is Perez so a Suppan and Riske trade may work or heck even a Suppan for Perez trade may work. Perez can't be as bad as Suppan and the only thing I don't really like about trading for Perez is that you would be moving Parra or Narveson out of the rotation. I don't believe that would be a good idea though. But I wouldn't mind Perez in the rotation though his contract really does suck compared to Suppan's. With Suppan and Riske really only being on the books for this year you will still have to be paying for Perez next year at $12m next year. I think the Brewers may have to add something to a Suppan for Perez deal but that won't be much since the Mets would be saving $10m next off season and that could get them a reliever or a decent positional player.
  16. 15-12 Tie breaker: 2+2+3= 7
  17. You can add Fielder to that list. I don't see Mark A trading Fielder this year there maybe a possibility that Mark A allows Melvin to trade Fielder this off season if a deal can not be made between the Brewers and Fielder at that time. Fielder is just way to much of a cash cow for Mark A right now to just let go of even if it does make the team better in the long run. Basically what I am saying is you are setting yourself up for a big let down if you think Fielder is going to be traded by this deadline for a bunch of prospects.
  18. If you trade Weeks and Fielder you are looking at a .400 win ball club at best really. The Brewers probably won't sniff .500 for the next 2-4 years after those trades. Weeks will be rather inexpensive to extend considering his injuries in the past also the Brewers have absolutely no one ready to take over for Weeks at 2B and no Lawrie is not a 2B he is worse than Weeks defensively at 2B. Lawrie is going to be either a 1B or a corner OF for the Brewers in the future. I don't see why the Brewers should even think about trading Weeks unless the Brewers get an offer that they can not refuse. Weeks best value to the Brewers is resigning with the Brewers.
  19. What kind of TV do you have? What kind of video card do you have? Is it a factory video card or a card you installed after buying the PC? Does your video card have a HDMI, VGA, DVI, or S-video input? Otherwise do you have a Playstation 3? If you have a PS3 you can use MLB.TV on the PS3 now. I know with the PC to your TV that if you use VGA, DVI, or S-video input you won't get sound so you will have to hook up your sound card to your TV or entertainment system which may cause some lag between the sound and video. If you have HDMI then you would be able to use just that input for both sound and video I believe you may have to work on some settings for that though.
  20. I wonder if a Rick Ankiel move would work with Willis also. I believe Willis is a good enough athlete where he could transition from pitcher to outfielder he could probably be just as good as Ankiel.
  21. No. The Diamondbacks wouldn't be looking to trade 3 years of Haren for 1.5 years of Prince. That makes absolutely no sense at all if anything the Diamondbacks are going to be looking for pitching and hitting prospects than someone like Fielder it just does not make any sense at all.
  22. Didn't look in the thread if someone had already stated this but the Frontier Airlines radio commercial is starting to bug me no scratch that it is annoying me.
  23. I have been wondering but what if the Brewers hold onto Prince for this year and then go ahead and trade Prince to the Nationals after this year. The Nationals definitely have the budget to afford Fielder and they will be looking to make a big splash this next off season. I am just not sure who or what the Brewers could get in return for Fielder from the Nationals though. What I really believe is going to happen is that Mark A. is not going to let Melvin trade Fielder away (to much of a cash cow right now) this season at least and maybe not even this off season. I think Mark A. is going to at least try to resign Fielder this off season and if they are not able to get Fielder resigned they will trade him then. I really don't see Mark A. doing a mid season trade for one of the Brewers biggest players which will probably hurt the team but I do see some suitors that will be available like the Nationals and other teams like the Angels, Yankees, and Red Sox will also be in consideration.
  24. Both McGehee's and Gamel's trade value should sky rocket this off season if Chipper Jones decides to retire. If McGehee continues to play like he has then I think you could get back a pretty good AA or AAA player. Gamel will probably still have some good value left but if the Brewers trade Fielder that makes this a moot point. You can't trade Fielder and McGehee/Gamel in the same year and expect the Brewers to be anything but a cellar dweller for the next 2-3 years while the next crop of talent comes up. That is just way to much offense to be giving up in a one year span and expect one of Gamel or McGehee to pick up the offense.
  25. Shouldn't the title read the re-re-return of Stern?
