I agree the Brewers need an impact pitcher but after Lawrie the talent pool gets a little dry with Kentrail Davis really only being a big possible impact bat in the farm system. Others like Cain, Schafer, and Green maybe everyday players but they are anything but an impact bat. These players may as well be platoon players or just bench players. Then you have the big question marks behind Salome and Gamel. This is not a knock against either of them but it is rather hard to figure out where they fit into all of this also Weeks is getting older and he is nearing free agency. You can't predict if Weeks will stay or not in Milwaukee and if he leaves you have Lawrie as the best 2B prospect in terms of a prospect and I am not sure he is even cut out to be a 2B and I'm not sure he was the work ethic to work at being a good 2B like Weeks has done. With all the knocks you can put on Weeks and his bad defense he at least goes out there and tries to learn the position unlike Lawrie who looks as though he just wants to hit and defense will come later and that is why I see Lawrie as a 1B/3B or a corner outfielder and not a 2B. If Cox is available at the Brewers pick they should pick him unless there is someone better in terms of pitching that is available. You can't draft based on need it usually doesn't work out all that well. You draft the best player available even if you have an overabundance of that player. If MLB allowed teams to trade draft picks I would be all for the Brewers trading down from their pick but since MLB doesn't allow that the best available player strategy should be the one that a team like the Brewers should follow.
Colby you think it is possible for Cox to slip past the top 10 and land in the Brewers lap kind of like Lawrie did? I like Cox better as a 2B than a 3B or an OF though I think defensively he would be better at 2B than at 3B or OF. I think his bat could play at 3B or a corner OF spot though.
The only way the Brewers are getting Buchholz is if the Brewers include Gallardo in the deal. There is no chance the Red Sox trade Buchholz + for Fielder without getting a good young MLB ready starter back in return and the only good young MLB ready pitcher the Brewers have is Gallardo. I don't see the Brewers trading both Prince and Gallardo and I don't see the Red Sox trading Buchholz either. I really don't see the Red Sox as a fit for Prince at this time. If Ortiz continues to swing the bat like he has been then there is no reason for the Red Sox to even think about trading for Prince. I believe everyone should just forget about Buchholz completely because there is absolutely no way the Red Sox trade him. I don't see the Red Sox as a fit if Ortiz continues playing the way he has been playing, I don't see the Rays as a fit either unless the Brewers take on a lot of Prince's salary for this year and next year, and I don't see the Orioles as a fit either why trade for someone when you are not going to be competitive for this year and the next and give up prospects when you can just attempt to sign the player when your team will be ready? A wild card team could be the Nationals but I'm not sure they have the prospects to get the deal done though and no Strasburg is not available. I really like the Rangers as a possibility I really like some of their prospects that they have and I still wouldn't be against taking a player like Davis as long as the Brewers are getting someone like Martin Perez along with an Evan Reed and maybe someone like Wilmer Font or Mitch Moreland. That is probably still to much for Prince but all of those pieces would be a great fit for the Brewers and would give the Rangers an extra boost to their already good offense. Though Vlad is giving the Rangers enough production at the DH spot so I am not so sure the Rangers will make this move maybe if Smoak continues to struggle a little and they decide to send him back down they would make this deal. Then the Rangers would have Smoak and Prince or they could flip Prince in the off season for some prospects when the Red Sox dump Ortiz though the return probably won't be all that great.
Yes but Winn is horrible. Even with that I don't see the Yankees as a fit the Rays are probably the better fit but I don't see them giving up all that much in terms of talent for 1.5 years of Hart who is going to be rather expensive next season for his production. If either Thames or Swisher gets injured I could see the Yankees really going after someone to plug that LF/RF hole. Winn right now is currently hitting .213/.300/.295. That is worse than what Gerut is currently doing and they both have about the same amount of PA's. So there is need for an improvement over someone like Winn but I believe Winn right now is probably the 5th OF for the Yankees so not really something they really need to address. I don't think the Brewers will get anyone above AA for a pitching prospect in return for Hart if they trade him to the Rays maybe someone like Wilking Rodriguez or David Newmann is probably going to be the return for Hart. So you would be looking at 2013 or 2014 to see those prospects in Milwaukee. I don't see Hart bringing back anything above AA if the Brewers trade him for some pitching the Brewers could get someone that is almost or near ready in terms of a positional player though.
The Rays need a RF with Kapler right now being the RF. The Angels may also need a RF/LF depending on where you think Abreu fits in. Maybe even the Yankees could be a fit but Thames right now is giving them some good production though Wynn isn't doing all that much for the Yankees right now. The Mariners are another possibility but if they don't start figuring things out there I don't see them trading for anything other than trading Lee for some prospects. I'm not exactly sure what the Brewers could get for Hart but if Hart continues what he is doing maybe a trade for someone like Adam Warren from the Yankees that might be a little bit to much for Hart though. I'm not sure exactly what to expect in return for Hart since if Hart continues what he is doing and if there are any injuries Hart's value could increase and not knowing who else could be available is rather hard to judge the return that the Brewers could get for Hart.
Maybe not the perfect stat to look at but he was keeping the team in the game and that is what counts. As long as the starting pitcher is keeping the team in the game nothing else really matters. It doesn't matter if the pitcher is getting lucky unlucky or whatever you want to call it the pitcher was still getting results which in the end lead to the team staying in the game. The pitchers job is to keep their team in the game nothing more nothing less.
Actually that was in the strike zone. The first pitch to Prince was a strike that was called a ball the second that was a ball was called a strike so that fourth pitch was probably going to be called a strike also since it was a strike last inning also.
How was that first pitch there a ball but the second one was a strike? I just don't get umpires anymore. I think it is time to go to a computerized strike zone.
I'm sorry but that isn't even true. 10 Game Log DATEOPPRESULTIPHRERHRBBSOGBFBTBF#PitDec.Rel.ERA 05/21@MINL 3-150.1677020261036L(1-5)-- 5.59 05/16PHIL 2-46.09330429153099L(1-4)-- 4.27 05/11ATLL 3-116.073313381327102L(1-3)-- 4.24 05/06@LADL 3-75.0431034962295---- 4.19 04/30@SDL 0-37.063314371429107L(1-2)-- 4.60 04/25CHCL 2-123.210974228112387L(1-1)-- 4.84 04/20@PITW 8-17.03000421472796W(1-0)-- 2.41 04/14@CHCL 6-76.07221029122477---- 3.86 04/09STLL 4-55.2433126592296---- 4.77So two very bad starts now equates to Suppan? Seriously? If I told you that a Brewers pitcher would give up 3 runs or less 7 out of 9 games who would you guess that pitcher was? You will probably say Gallardo or Wolf right? I just don't understand how you can equate Bush to Suppan. Bush has a very good curve ball while Suppan has a very good look alike in Braddock.
Yeah because only having 3 bad starts this whole year for Bush is a stupid reason for not having Bush on the roster. Other than Gallardo Bush has been the second best starter on the Brewers pitching staff. To put this in perspective Bush has only given up 3 or more runs twice this year. TWICE! So how is that again stupid to have Bush on the roster?
I don't see Scheppers being in the same deal as Smoak. I believe the Brewers could get something like this Smoak , Wilmer Font and Evan Reed. With Reed he is either a starter or a reliever and with Font you have a #2 or #3 type pitcher though Reed has the higher upside with #1 or ace like stuff. I love this description from texasleaguers.com about Reed though he does have his command issues I still wouldn't mind getting him kind of reminds me of Jeffress and Parra in terms of potential with the same problems that Parra and Jeffress have.
A 3-team deal involving the Red Sox, Brewers, and Mariners would fit. The Mariners need a DH and it would fit. The Brewers or the Red Sox would probably get a low A ball prospect in return for Ortiz and maybe a AAAA type player in return for him.
Wasn't really responding to your post but yeah I did see Parra in there also you are still not going to get all that much in a return with Zaun being the main piece. You may be able to get a good reliever or a #5 or #6 type of a starter if you throw in Parra. So you would be trading a starting catcher and a #5 or a #6 type pitcher in Parra (as of right now Parra is a #5 or a #6 starter potential is there for a #2 or #3 type starter) for a positional player or a pitcher. If you are going for a starting pitcher you are probably going to get a #4 at best. I'm not sure the return would be worth trading both Zaun and Parra together.
And where does Green sit in all of this? I believe Green defensively is more valuable than Gamel. I would rather stick Gamel in RF with Green at 3B and Lawrie at 1B. Even if the Brewers do not have a 1B option if they trade Fielder this year there should be plenty of external options like Dunn and others to fill the void at 1B for the next 2-3 years until Lawrie and Green will be ready. I would expect to see Green and Lawrie in Milwaukee by 2012 no later than 2013.
You are not going to get much in return for Zaun if you are looking for a pitcher. You are looking at someone like Dillard at best in return for Zaun. So trading for a positional player may actually give you more value than trading for a pitcher. I'm sorry but you are expecting way to much if you are thinking you are going to get anything of value in terms of pitching for Zaun.
