  1. The Padres could just sit on that deal and not take it. It is not like Peavy is going to be leaving at the end of the season and the Padres will be only getting compensation through the draft. The Padres can afford to keep Peavy for another year or two before his contract really starts to get expensive. You are onto something but I don't see the Padres accepting a deal where Scarpetta is the key pitching prospect coming back in return. Jeffress, Scarpetta, Lucroy, Gillespie/Schafer/Gindl would be more along the lines of what the Padres would be thinking in return for Peavy. Anything less than a very close ace type pitcher in return for Peavy would be unacceptable for the Padres and their fans. The GM would be killed if he doesn't get back at least an ace type pitcher for Peavy.
  2. I believe Kennedy is more like a Dave Bush type of a starter. I'm not sold on Buchholz at all and he maybe all hype from the Red Sox. Masterson I like a little bit more but Kennedy is someone I would really like on the Brewers. Yes more would be needed for Masterson but not much more would be needed to be added to get Buchholz depending on how far Buchholz stock has dropped with the Red Sox. If the Red Sox were confident in Masterson and Buchholz to be in the rotation I don't see why they would have gone after both Penny and Smoltz.
  3. I don't believe that Rivera is going to go on the 15 day DL. If anything Rivera will be limited to a pitch hitting role for a week at a minimum and 2 weeks at a maximum. Rivera gets what 1 start a week? Rivera wouldn't be scheduled to play again as the starting catcher until Sunday. If he is scratched from that game his next start would be on next Friday. Plenty of time for that ankle to heal. Not even worth it to make a roster move at all unless Rivera goes on the 15 day DL which I doubt he will have to go on.
  4. Masterson and Buchholz come to mind in a deal. I would rather get Kennedy from the Yankees over both of them though. Masterson and Buchholz is probably asking way to much in return for Stetter Masterson more so than Buchholz just depends on how far Buchholz stock has dropped in Boston.
  5. Rickie with another good night. Hart is also looking good at the plate showing a lot of plate discipline at least just watching the game it seems like that. Hopefully Rickie and Corey will both continue staying hot at the top of the order.
  6. Yes finally a series win! Great game by Bush, Braun, and Fielder today.
  7. Not really an in-game thread really just a general question here. Wouldn't it be better to bat Kendall 9th in the lineup when Looper, Parra, and Gallardo are pitching? The number 7 hitter really wouldn't get much to hit though so theres a negative. But is it any different really to have Kendall bat 8th and the pitcher bat 9th? Gallardo has more power in his swing than Kendall does right now so I don't see a problem with getting Gallardo an extra AB whenever he starts. With Kendall it looks like he is starting to go down hill really fast with his production at the plate. If Macha is going to continue putting Kendall in wouldn't it be a better idea to move Kendall into the 9th spot when those three pitchers are pitching?
  8. The NFL 2K series and NBA 2K series on the dreamcast were some of the best sports games. Only other sports game I have liked since are NFL 2k5 and the current MLB The Show.
  9. Bedard is just not a good fight for Milwaukee and no he will not cost less because of that. We already have a pitcher like Bedard in Gallardo we need someone more like Sheets than we do someone like Bedard. If Bedard were more like Sheets an injury liability but someone who could pitch deep into games then sure but Bedard starts to shut it down once he hits the 7th inning. The Brewers do not need someone like that. Peavy makes sense because the Brewers need a lot of their younger players if they are going to compete in the long run. If you are going to give up a lot of cheap players I would want somone who I can control for longer than a season. Bedard doesn't really improve the Brewers and neither does Peavy really Halladay does though. Halladay is someone you can expect to go 7+ IP. While Bedard you can count on him going 6-7 innings. The Brewers already have 5 of those kind of starting pitchers. The Brewers really do need someone who can give the bullpen the whole day off or give them a very easy day 1 or 2 innings pitched.
  10. I believe Dillard is going to be a good #4 or #5 starting pitching option in the next couple of a years. Though this depends if he can develop that 3rd and 4th pitch more. I know Dillard would be a great option in the bullpen but I would rather see him become the teams #4 or #5 starter. I would rather have someone like Dillard be the teams #4 or #5 pitcher than pay for someone like Looper or Suppan to fill those spots. Julio is just wasting space in the bullpen right now. He is the teams whipping boy so to say. I would rather have McClung out there doing that since he can give you more innings than Julio can and he is more valuable than Julio.
  11. He is to injury prone for the Brewers to take a gamble on Bedard. I wouldn't take Bedard with the pitching staff we have right now. Bedard isn't really a guy you can count on to get you 7+ IP a game. I believe Roy Halladay is more of a possibility depending on how well the Blue Jays do this year but he may not even be an option the owner and the GM of the Blue Jays have been quoted in the offseason they are not interested in trading Halladay. There has been some extension talks between the two parties also. If Chien-Ming Wang could also be a possibility for a trade. Everyone is talking about Kennedy and Hughes being trade bait for the Yankees don't forget about Wang. Wang is not happy with his contract situation and if he continues to pitch like he has I wouldn't be surpised if the Yankees trade him. But like Halladay Wang is more than likely is not on the block to be traded. I don't see the Brewers moving early and getting a starting pitcher. If the Brewers do do a trade early in the season it will be more than likely for a relief pitcher especially if Riske is not able to come back before the All Star break. Julio won't be with this team for very long I believe and I am not sure if there are any pitchers in the minors who could step up and help the bullpen this year.
  12. Peavy will come to Milwaukee it is just that his option for the final year will be picked up and he will have a full no trade clause.
  13. The real reason is when Weeks first hurt his wrist the Brewers allowed Weeks to come back way to early. He should have rehabbed in AAA before coming back with the Brewers.
  14. I like the Garmin one I have the Nuvi 200 and it tells me to turn in x amount of miles and then feet. I don't get lost anymore with that thing now.
  15. No. The Brewers just do not have the pitching prospects to get this deal done.
  16. I should clarify what I'm talking about here. The no risk investment is what I am referring to as being no such thing that exists. There is always risk involved in investing even in government bonds. There is always some risk to any investment that is made and if there were no risk at all everyone would invest in the product since you would get 100% plus in return of your investment. Money market vehicles have the risks of interest rate changes and inflation, bonds have the risk of inflation, and stocks have interest rate changes inflation and anything else that may change an investors view on the stock. There is no such thing as a no risk investment just what type of risk the investor is willing to take.
  17. No such thing exists. If it did exist everyone would be investing in it.
  18. I would like to see Hart to stay where he is at and move Cameron to the #5 spot and Hardy to the #6 spot.
  19. They could trade Wang for Suppan. Suppan only has a 12 ERA Wang has a 30+ ERA. I thought the Yankees were suppose to have the best pitching staff ever?
  20. Maybe Melvin can trade Suppan for Wang? Suppan is obviously a better pitcher than Wang is. Wang 2009 Season Stats SPLITS G GS CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB SO W L P/GS WHIP BAA ERA Season 3 3 0 0 6.0 23 23 23 2 6 2 0 3 44.7 4.83 .622 34.50 Suppan 2009 Season Stats SPLITS G GS CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB SO W L P/GS WHIP BAA ERA Season 2 2 0 0 7.2 8 11 11 2 7 2 0 2 70.0 1.96 .276 12.91
  21. Carpenter with a torn left oblique. Possible DL stint. It sounds like he will be rehabbing after a second evaluation next week. In the articles title it says the time table is 4-8 weeks. If that is true Carpenter would be back around the All Star game after a couple of rehab games I'm guessing.
  22. Depends how far Kennedy and Hughes stock has dropped in NY.
  23. A Gillespie for Kennedy/Hughes wouldn't be a bad trade just not something I would like to do. It does though give the Brewers a #5 starter to throw in if Suppan continues to do what he has been doing. I wonder if Kennedy's and Hughes stock has fallen enough for a Gillespie for Kennedy/Hughes trade. I do believe Kennedy/Hughes need to be traded in order for them to have success in the majors. I would take Kennedy over Hughes way to many question marks about Hughes compared to Kennedy. I believe Kennedy to be a Dave Bush type of a pitcher.
  24. Fangraphs has Weeks OBP at .352 career wise.
  25. I'm surprised no one has posted this or I just didn't see it when it was posted. Nothing turned up in the search of the forums. Fangraphs has ranked the top 10 prospects for each team in each division. NL West, NL Central, NL East, AL West, AL Central. The AL East will be there tomorrow I believe. From the fangraphs article. The Milwaukee Brewers 1. Alcides Escobar, SS, Nashville (AAA) 2. Mat Gamel, 3B, Nashville (AAA) 3. Brett Lawrie, 2B, Wisconsin (A) 4. Jeremy Jeffress, RHP, Huntsville (AA) 5. Angel Salome, C, Nashville (AAA) 6. Cutter Dykstra, OF, Wisconsin (A) 7. Lorenzo Cain, OF, Huntsville (AA) 8. Jonathan Lucroy, C, Huntsville (AA) 9. Jake Odorizzi, RHP, Extended Spring Training 10. Taylor Green, 3B, Injured Other Players of Note: Cole Gillespie, Zack Braddock, Caleb Gindl, Cody Scarpetta, Eric Farris, Lee Haydel, Efrain Nieves, Joe Koshansky, Nick Green Former Brewer prospects Cleveland Indians 2. Matt LaPorta, OF, Columbus (AAA) 7. Michael Brantley, OF, Columbus (AAA) Pretty close to what the national media thinks of the Brewers minor league system. I'm disappointed Logan Schafer didn't make the list.
