My top 10: 1. Braddock 2. Scarpetta 3. Jeffress 4. Odorizzi 5. Heckathorn 6. Anundson 7. Arnett 8. Peralta 9. Fredrickson 10. Lintz Braddock when healthy is a better pitcher than Jeffress and Scarpetta is going to be something special. Only reason I have Arnett at the 7th spot is because he hasn't proved himself yet in the minors and I haven't seen him pitch at all yet the others I have seen pitch.

Promotions/making room for the draftees

When Melvin was being interviewed last night in the booth he said that Arnett would be in Helena because of the amount of innings he has pitched. -
I was going to suggest the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton which is only about a 2 hour or so drive from Cleveland. But since you are just looking for places to eat and drink I'm of no use. I haven't been to Cleveland in a long time.

If they are an alumni the university should have contact information for them. Since you are trying to get funding for a sport I don't think there would be a problem with you getting contact information of former alumni from the university.

Trade chatter heating up (6/11)...
nate82 replied to Brian the Automator's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Why would you send someone with a high walk rate to the bullpen? That is the last place you would want someone who walks a lot of batters to be. -
To be fair with Hardy he did have a hot month of May. He had a .313 .400 .488 .888 line for the month of May I don't think Escobar would be capable of doing that right now.

Is there even a player on the team the Brewers could platoon with Hart? I'm thinking the Brewers are going to have to go out and trade for someone to get someone with more production but if they do that they should just get a full time replacement for Hart. I wonder what it would take to get Hermida from the Marlins who would be the left handed version of Hart. I don't see a Catalanotto/Gerut platoon with Hart providing much of an improvement over playing Hart everyday. There is not much in house that the Brewers have that will be a good platoon option with Hart I believe. I don't want to make this into a trade discussion so I will just stop there but I do believe the Brewers are going ot have to look at acquiring an OF if Hart keeps on playing the way he has been.
-
Why are the Brewers still starting Hart? Other than not having anyone to platoon with Hart why is Hart still starting so many games? You would think that Gerut would be getting more starts the way Hart has been playing the last month. Hart is still struggling this month yet going 4-26 so far this month I believe that doesn't count the game today. Yes I know small sample size but I don't see Hart doing any better than what he has done so far this month. I expect Hart to have a line somewhere close to this .180/.200/.275 for the month of June and that is just absolutely horrible for a starting RF let a lone someone to be platooned with. Hart doesn't even have that good of splits so far this year against lefties. Hart versus lefties so far this year: By Breakdown AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS vs. Left 45 8 11 3 0 0 3 4 0 12 0 1 .244 .306 .311 .617 Yes I know small sample size again. But Hart does have good splits against lefties in the last three years though. Hart right now is the last person I want to see come up to bat against anyone. I would rather have Hall or Kendall bat than Hart right now. Maybe McGehee can get some playing time in RF or Gerut can get a little bit more playing time in RF also. Right now Hart is doing much other than playing defense in RF which is not all that great all the time.

And they do take him with the 4th pick.

Anyone know why the Cardinals released Tyler Herron?
nate82 replied to nate82's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
But why give up on a guy who is only 22 years old? It almost sounds like there is something personal going on between the two or maybe I am reading too much into this quote ""We need to give the valuable innings to other players who deserve the opportunity."" That sounds like they are just giving up on him and have some kind of problem with the way he either handles himself or there is a personal problem that he needs to fix. It just doesn't make any sense for a team to give up on a guy who is only 22 years old this is like if the Brewers would have released Jeffress when he was struggling in AA. I just don't get this move at all unless there is something extremely wrong with this guy. -
April / May / June Transaction Thread
nate82 replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
As much as I love Schafer and Cain I don't see either being the starting CF in 2010 that job will probably belong to Cameron for one more year. -
I figured here would be a better place than in the transaction forum since people who know more about the minors would be looking here to answer my question. Why did the Cardinals release this 22 year old pitcher a former 1st rounder. Would the Brewers have any interest in him? Has anyone seen this guy pitch or know anything about him? Parra & Escobar for Cliff Lee & DeRosa?
nate82 replied to GormanHarvey's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Lee for next year is very cheap and will bring as much in return in a trade next year as he will this year. $8 million dollar starting pitcher at the caliber of Lee don't grow on trees. It would be foolish to trade Lee this year for the Indians. I don't see many pitchers in the Indians organization that look to be ready next year so keeping Lee and not spending the money on free agents next year is a better option. Plus the AL Central is very weak and they could win it and keeping a competitive team on the field is all you can ask for as a fan realistically. The AL central will be wide open for the taking next year and is still wide open right now I don't see anyone in that division running away with it. The Indians still have a chance at competing this year and next year it is foolish to dump one of your best pitchers just to trade him. I still believe the Twins strategy is the best way to go when building a team trade only when you absolutely have to Johan Santana. The Twins were probably better off taking the compensation picks than what they got in return in that trade though. Carmona is only 25 years old I don't see why the Indians should panic with him he is still very young. Carmona is probably not as good as his 2007 year and he is not as bad as his 2008 and current year. 2007 was his first full year as a starter in the majors so I'm not gonna take to much stock into those numbers. Like Parra, Carmona is still young and will be around for a long time yet I don't see why the Indians would trade Carmona away either he looks to be a good #3 or #4 pitcher definitely not a 3.00 ERA type pitcher though more along the lines of 3.60-4.00 ERA. -
That OF in STL is already crowded with Rasmus, Ankiel, Ludwick, and Duncan. Not so much Duncan but I don't see why the Cardinals would trade for Holliday I would think Derosa, Atkins, and Beltre would be someone they would go after. It doesn't look like Glaus is going to be coming back anytime soon. The only way I would see the Cardinals trading for Holliday would be if they traded Ankiel away for some pitching help. Otherwise I don't see the Cardinals trading for Holliday. Dunn would make a lot of sense for the Red Sox as a DH. He would give them more production than what Ortiz is giving him. I still wish the Brewers would have traded Hart this offseason to the Rays for Jackson and then had went out and signed Dunn. I wonder what the offense would look like with Dunn batting in the 5th spot behind Fielder. Defense would have taken a loss but Jackson + Dunn is > Hart + Looper.

Since we have a pitchers thread on who will or could be available at the deadline why not start one on the batters available or who could become available. IF: Mark Derosa: He is obviously available and could fill a hole the Brewers have. Though I believe McGehee and Counsell will be fine at 2B. Would probably take a B level prospect pitching being what Cleveland would want in return. Possible trade pieces: not sure on this one. Dan Uggla: He has been on the block ever since the beginning of the offseason. He has a lot of power but I don't see the Brewers trading for Uggla for the same reason I don't see the Brewers trading for Derosa. Possible trade pieces: Jeffress, Brewer, Dykstra, Gindl, Braddock, and Taylor Green. Aubrey Huff: If the Brewers see Gamel as not being ready to play everyday at 3B right now b/c of his defense and Hall continues to struggle Huff would be a nice option to pickup. Possible trade pieces: Taylor Green, Aguilar, and Rogers. OF: Matt Holliday: He will become available but the price is what maybe become a concern. The price of prospects could swing either way, if Holliday continues to hit like he has been since May or if he plays like he was in April his stock could go either way. Who the A's would target in a trade: Gindl, Dykstra, Schafer, Braddock, and Nieves. Jeremy Hermida: Supposibly the Marlins are open to trading Hermida along with others in their current OF. Hermida could be an interesting platoon player with Hart. Possible trade pieces: Gillespie, Brewer, Braddock, Nieves, and Dykstra. Cody Ross: Another player from the Marlins supposedly also on the block now. Ross could be a good platoon with Hart or Cameron also. Possible trade pieces: Gindl, Braddock, Brewer, and Dykstra Jermaine Dye: This is a possibility that I could see the Brewers looking at but I don't think the Brewers would be able to get a pitcher also if they go after Dye. Possible trade pieces: Braddock, Jeffress, Green, Gillespie, and Salome. Adam Dunn: Another possibility but I'm not sure the Brewers would give up the prospects to get Dunn. Possible trade pieces: Jeffress, Braddock, Nieves, Green, Salome, Lucroy, and Dykstra. Did I miss any other players who maybe or are available right now in the trade market? Also the trade pieces I listed are just players I believe would be likely in a trade to get the player. I am not suggesting all of the players listed to be traded for the one player just putting them down as players that teams would look at in return for their players and starting from there.

Parra & Escobar for Cliff Lee & DeRosa?
nate82 replied to GormanHarvey's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
It is arrogant to suggest blowing up the Indians especially trading Sizemore that would be like someone coming onto here and saying the Brewers should trade Braun if the Brewers were in the same position as the Indians are in right now. You don't trade someone you have control of for a long time like Sizemore or Braun especially when they are still young and in their prime especially when there is a long time before the Indians should even think about trading Sizemore. -
Why? Think about this if you go out to the movies once a month how much do you pay for everything? Lets say it is a dinner and a movie. You pay about $30 for dinner (being very conservative here on that price) then you go to the movies and since it is a matinee (did I spell that right) it will cost about $9 a ticket. Lets say you are paying for this two tickets at $18 plus popcorn which is about $5 plus two sodas at $10. So far you have paid $63 for about five hours of entertainment. Now lets say that MMORPG you have been paying $15 a month for you play once a week for 4 hours. That is 16 hours a month for $15 while going to the movies and dinner costs you about $60 for about 5 hours of entertainment. 60/5 = $12 per hour of fun 15/16 = $0.94 per hour of fun. MMORPG's are cheaper than dinner and a movie. I just don't know why people are against paying a subscription to play a game that is always improving and changing. You get a different experience almost all the time. It is cheaper than renting a couple of movies a month with more entertainment hours per dollar.

Parra & Escobar for Cliff Lee & DeRosa?
nate82 replied to GormanHarvey's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Let me flip this on you. I don't see the need for the Red Sox to have Lars Anderson, Clay Bucholz, or Justin Masterson they should just trade them for Holiday and other pieces to win a World Series now. I also don't see the reason why the Red Sox have David Ortiz stinking up the joint they should just DFA him now. Do you see how arrogant that sounded? Trading Lee and Sizemore is a very bad idea. If you want attendance like the Marlins then sure go ahead and trade away Lee and Sizemore. You don't trade your two best players just to trade them. Sizemore is going to be good for a long time and the Indians have him for awhile now they don't need to even think about trading him. Plus with Lee you are going to get a lot but are you going to be able to get what Lee is worth next year? Lee has a cheap option and Cleveland shouldn't be looking to trade him. Lee is signed to a small contract. The reason why teams don't use the Marlins aproach is because it is way to extreme. You will just kill your attendance by doing that. The Marlins in my opinion have the worst strategy and the Twins actually have the best strategy of all the teams. Yes the Marlins have won two world series but I would take a year in and year out being competitive over two world series wins and a lot of mediocrity and you are just wondering when your favorite player is going to be traded to the Red Sox, Yankees, or any other big market team. The Twins really do have the winning strategy not the Marlins. -
Parra & Escobar for Cliff Lee & DeRosa?

I'm just going to copy and paste what I said in the other thread because Lee's option is very cheap for Cleveland next year. I don't believe Lee is on the block at all no matter what ESPN and other news outlets say about him being on the block. A $9m team option for next year for Cleveland is very cheap and they will be competitive next year in a very weak AL Central I don't see why they should or would trade Lee. This is not Sabathia where Cleveland knows he is going to be gone next year. Cliff Lee has a very inexpensive team option for next year and it would be silly for Cleveland to trade him away with that cheap of an option. -
