  1. Salome's bat is ready to play but his defense is not even close to being ready.
  2. A trade to the Rays is where I would see Hart going to. Since the Rays have already traded away Jackson I don't see the Rays making another move. It has been known that the Rays are looking for a RH OF for next year. Sonnanstine, Niemann, and Jackson were all known to be available from the Rays.
  3. But here is the problem if Salome doesn't stick at catcher he is nearly useless to the Brewers since there is no DH in the National League. I believe Salome's bat is about ready to play but yet his defense is lacking especially his positioning behind home plate. Maybe Money can help him with that. It looks as though he did help him with that last year in AA. I love Salome's bat and what he could bring to the Brewers but I'm not sure he is going to be a good defensive catcher.
  4. Didn't Steinbrenner complain about there be a Yankees price once before in the 80's or was it in the late 90's? I remember reading somewhere about this when the Yankees made their first offering to CC.
  5. Crede or Nomar would be OK signings if they were to be platoon only players. If Hall is traded in the Yankees deal with Cameron I wouldn't mind having Crede or Nomar not my favorite choices but I could live with Crede or Nomar platooning with Lamb at 3B.
  6. But will Dunn accept a contract to another team that has a very low chance of making the playoffs? The Nationals don't really have the pitching to compete next year against the Phillies, Braves, and Mets. I don't even see the Nationals as a Wild Card contender even with Teixeira since they really need a lot of starting pitching help. I could see Teixeira signing with the Nationals since it would be a rather long term contract. I don't see Dunn being a fit for the Nationals I would believe Dunn would get as much money on a shorter contract compared to the one the Nationals would give him. What is interesting though is if the Angels miss out on Teixeira they will more than likely go after Manny and use him as a DH/4th or 5th OF. It looks as though the Angels will go the Manny route than Dunn or Burrell. I wouldn't mind seeing Dunn or Burrell in LF next year for the Brewers since it does give us a luxury to trade Prince next year. Not to go to far off topic but the Cameron deal may have a lot of implications of where the Brewers will be going this off season. If Melvin decides to just keep Cameron I believe the Brewers will keep the offense as is right now and then go after Johnson or Smoltz. I would rather have Johnson though but Smoltz could be a good closer option for a year or two and I wouldn't be against that either. But there are cheaper options for relievers in the market with better upside like Britton and others. I would rather just keep Cameron and sign Johnson or take a gamble on a couple of pitchers and see which ones stick.
  7. I haven't seen much or any news on Dunn or Burrell from anyone. Both of these guys may come cheap enough for the Brewers in terms of years and money.
  8. His brother is on the minor league team.
  9. Jake Peavy more than likely to be pitching for the Padres in 2009. Padres CEO says "It's likely Jake will be with us Opening Day. We said from the very beginning in connection with both of those possibilities that we would not make a trade unless it made baseball sense. We are no longer actively pursuing any trade for Jake, which is not to say someone won't approach us."
  10. OK I will revise mine now. 1. Sign Randy Johnson to a 1 year $8 mil + option year. 2. Sign Adam Dunn to a 3 year $36 mil contract. 3. Sign Chris Britton to a 2 year $3 mil contract. 4. Trade Hall and Cameron to the Yankees for Melky Cabrera and a pitcher. 5. Sign Wigginton to a 2 year $6 mil contract plus incentives. 6. Sign Brad Penny to a 1 year $4 mil contract plus incentives. Rotation: 1. Gallardo 2. Johnson 3. Parra 4. Penny 5. Bush Bullpen Suppan, McClung, Britton, Villanueva, Riske, Swindle, Stetter. Lineup 1. Weeks 2B 2. Hart CF 3. Braun RF 4. Fielder 1B 5. Hardy SS 6. Dunn LF 7. Wigginton/Lamb 8. Kendall C Bench: Wigginton/Lamb, Rivera, Iribarren, Gwynn, Cabrera. The bench isn't exactly ideal with Hall and Cameron gone the defense especially in the OF would be a nightmare. Britton could be a Turnbow like closer good for a year and half and then nothing. With the contracts coming in and out I believe the Brewers would be taking on about $12 million in salary still within the budget.
  11. 1B is going to be opened up in the 2009 offseason that is when I believe Fielder would be traded. Adam Dunn could be signed for a 3 or 4 year contract. Having Dunn playing LF in 2009 wouldn't be all that bad and you could switch him to 1B for the 2010 and 2011 seasons which helps finding another 1B a lot easier. If the Brewers sign Dunn trading Fielder for pitching becomes a lot easier than it would if you don't have anyone to replace Fielder with. Dunn gives the Brewers the option to either trade Fielder this year or next year and having someone to fill in for Fielder until the Brewers can find someone else to take that spot. I would still take Dunn in LF and trade Hart for some pitching help and hold onto Cameron for one more year. Defensively you take a hit but offensively the team is better with Dunn in the lineup.
  12. Here is the problem with that there are only Suppan like pitchers left in free agency that can be signed to long term contracts. Penny, Johnson, Smoltz, and others are what the Brewers should be looking at. Short term contracts for players looking to rebound from an injury or an off year. Everyone else in free agency should be a big NO to go after.
  13. Chris Britton could be a good signing by the Brewers to come out of the bullpen. He has closer stuff and I would rather have him at closer than Villanueva and McClung and use those two in the higher leverage situations.
  14. I did laugh about that to. It was way overboard I have seen worse things happen on the ice happen and they didn't even get suspended as long as this guy did for making a sarcastic or rude comment.
  15. Besides me being completely fascinated with Adam Dunn right now. There has been zero to very little news on Adam Dunn at all. By far after Teixeira there is only Manny, Dunn, and Burrell are the best free agent bats available. I believe they go in that order to I would rather have Dunn less baggage and will cost less than Manny. Is this good news that there is basically no news or rumors on Dunn and where he could be going. If the Brewers could land Dunn for a 3 year $36 million contract the Brewers could go in many different directions. Possibilities include trading Fielder to the Angels for one of their many pitching prospects or trading Hart or Cameron to a team for some pitching help. There is a lot of different directions the Brewers could go to improve the team by just signing Dunn. Even if the Brewers don't trade Fielder this year they could still trade Fielder in the 2009 off season and move Dunn over to 1B untill the Brewers can either draft or develop another 1B.
  16. You still have a problem there. Now you just got rid of your best left handed bat in your lineup now you are forced to either have an all right handed lineup or bringing up Gamel before he is even ready. You would then need to trade Hart to make room for Dunn in LF or find another left handed bat in a trade.
  17. Hamburgers and veggieburgers?
  18. I wonder if this will set the bar for Dunn and Burrell. The Brewers could afford 3 years $36-39 million for Dunn. I'm starting to get obsessed with Dunn here now.
  19. This isn't 100% correct. Peavy would come to Milwaukee but he would get a full no trade clause and his option would be picked up for his final year.
  20. Kennedy would be nothing more than a Dave Bush type of a pitcher. Hughes would cost more in paying of Cameron's salary than Kennedy though.
  21. The deal is dead according to Towers. Hot Stove Blog over at MLB.com
  22. Baseball America has the list up of who was drafted and by whom. Baseball America Link.
  23. D.J. Augustin looks to be a good PG in the making. I still believe the Bucks made the wrong choice with Alexander and should have went with Augustin instead. Even at Augustin's size he has been playing really good at the PG position.
  24. You are all reading way to much into this. The Brewers can support a payroll up to $90-95 million depending on the attendance and merchandise sales. The Brewers can be profitable at $80-85 million depending on attendance and the merchandise sales. The Brewers are very profitable at $75-80 million in salary. The Brewers can also be a winning team in those salary ranges. It just takes better scouting and some luck to be competitive at the right times. The Brewers just have to make right decisions on who they pay for you can't sign a lot of Suppan's to back end loaded contracts.
