  1. I hear ya. My house is ~1700 sq ft (plenty of room for 3 of us), but I wish I could wave a magic wand and re-allocate the space. I’d downsize our master suite and living room in favor of adding another small bedroom / office and a dedicated laundry space.
  2. This is accurate. We were fortunate to have done a basement remodel and kitchen remodel right before everything hit last year. We added a half bath in the basement where they had to dig up the 'crete and it ran about 6k. However, we had my wife's dad's company do it and he doesn't charge labor for us. Our furnace and AC unit are 19 years old and I’m considering replacing them preemptively before costs go up. It’d also be a good way to deploy the cash we’ve stashed this year. I’m concerned it’s going to get eaten up by inflation.
  3. I'd guess that you can draw up your estate however you want. Wikipedia indicates that Pat and Tyler's dad were divorced in 2007. You can draw up your estate however you want but still surprised the plan itself would allow it. The cost to run the plan are a lot higher if it can be passed on to kids. I suspect when a non-spouse beneficiary inherits the pension, the lifetime income option is based on their age. Hypothetically, had Pat Summit lived into retirement, her lifetime income option may have been ~$300K per year because actuarial tables would indicate she likely has fewer years remaining than her son. The actual present value of future cash payments for 23 year-old Tyler and 59 year-old Pat is probably the same.
  4. Bob Motzko coached at his alma mater St. Cloud State from 2005-2018, but left to take the Gophers’ job. Now his successor has the Huskies one game away from a title. Motzko was an assistant under Don Lucia on Minnesota’s B2B national championship teams in 2002 and 2003, so I understand why that job is attractive to him. Plus the money is probably better. Fun side note: I sold a tie to Don Lucia while working at Macy’s in college.
  5. Well, well, well...how the turntables. I am surprised UMass won, now I hope they win the final. I’m pulling for St. Cloud State out of conference pride. Plus, I usually root for Western teams over Eastern teams. I’ll admit though, I was surprised to see Duluth’s charmed run come to an end.
  6. I think I read a similar article. He apparently gets $173K per year for life. Ever since that scandal broke, I wondered how a 20-something man could ever make a decent living after such a high profile dismissal. Finally got an answer today.
  7. Tyler Summit (son of legendary coach Pat Summit) apparently earns $173K per year from his deceased mother’s pension.
  8. The gunman who killed 5 in South Carolina was reportedly an NFL veteran. He reportedly shot and killed the doctor who was treating him, along with the doctor’s grandchildren. I wouldn’t be shocked if it was CTE. Very sad situation all around. https://www.yahoo.com/news/2-children-among-5-killed-010718996.html
  9. I’m terrified to get a quote on any home improvements these days. When I bought my home 6 years ago, I figured it would cost $10K to add a bathroom in the basement. Now I’m sure it’s $20K. Heck, my Zillow value went up 6% just in the last week. It’s crazy out there.
  10. Minnesota-Duluth will catch another break in the Frozen Four semis on Thursday. UMass will be down 4 players due to COVID protocols, including their #1 and #3 goalies. The backup goalie for Thursday’s game will be an undergraduate equipment manager.
  11. I’m a big Packers / Rodgers fan and I’d love to see him retire now and host Jeopardy full time. It might not be a second Super Bowl, but that just seems like a fitting end for him. No bitter divorce - just ‘Hey, it’s time for me to go do something new. Good luck to you all.’
  12. Looks like the Jets are getting a 2nd, a 4th, and a 6th from Carolina. That sort of feels like an overpay (and I’d gladly take that for Love). Darnold MIGHT still be an average starting quarterback, but his ceiling is nowhere near where it was 3 years ago. Even if he turns out to be really good, 3 of his 5 ‘value’ years have been used up. A 2nd round pick seems adequate on its own.
  13. stoutdude - you and are probably in the same boat: I graduated high school at 175 and college around 190. The office life has not been kind to me and I put on about 25 pounds my first year out of school. I’ve been in the 210-220 range most of my adult life, but hit 230 just after Christmas. My work HRA scores have always been in the 85-90 range, so while not a train wreck, there’s obvious room for improvement. My ‘realistic’ adult weight is probably 200. I actually live fairly clean and exercise regularly. I ride a stationary bike for 30 minutes, 6 days a week. However, if I’m being honest with myself, pedaling a bike while watching TV is probably not providing a significant health benefit. I’ve resolved to get out and walk at a brisk pace 5 days a week (mixing in one bike day and one rest day every week). On weekdays, I complete a 2.2 mile loop around my neighborhood in about 35 minutes. Then on Saturdays, I’m taking a series of progressively longer slow walks in hopes of working up to a DIY marathon this Fall. Good luck to you!
  14. I’m all signed up for my first ‘Fauci ouchie’ on April 12.
  15. Nice work. Keep it up! I’m working on my dad bod this year. The early Spring has been a blessing. I’ve been able to get out and walk most mornings. Usually, I’m stuck inside on the exercise bike until May.
  16. Recently, on a t-shirt, I saw: ‘Always give 100% ... unless you’re giving blood’ I don’t know why, but that made me laugh. Happy Easter
  17. Hockey Fans: I don’t watch a ton of hockey, but enjoy following a few college teams (North Dakota being my favorite). This week, UND’s Jacob Bernard-Docker signed with Ottawa. Looks to me like he was assigned #48 for the Sens. Some of the Twitter comments referred to this as a ‘bad number.’ However, I see jersey numbers all over the place (2-98) when watching the NHL. I didn’t think there was such thing as a ‘bad number.’ I know most colleges assign numbers 2-25 for their skaters and leave 1 and 30-35 for goalies. 26-29 are sort of the auxiliary numbers (at least at UND). Is there any rhyme or reason to how jersey numbers are assigned in the NHL?
  18. [sarcasm]That’s ridiculous. I don’t know anyone who pays more than $1,000 for bath water.[/sarcasm]
  19. That’d be the exact opposite of rewarding teams for building new ballparks.
  20. One thing I always appreciated about the MLB All-Star game was how it rotated through sites and allowed small market teams to host. Now I fear they’ll revert to the NBA model to maximize profit.
  21. The story on Bhad Bhaby is that she appeared on Dr. Phil a few years ago as a troubled teen and had a memorable catch phrase that became an internet meme. In response to a comment to which she took offense, she said Catch me outside, how about that? (meaning she wanted to fight after the show), but it sounded like Cash me outside how bout dat?. She leveraged her meme status into a marginally successful rap career; however, her most notable work (aside from Dr. Phil) is now probably selling adult photos on Only Fans, from which she earned over a million dollars in a few hours after she turned 18. The whole thing is odd.
  22. No problem. Your time is definitely better spent pondering other matters.
  23. Am I the only person who doesn't have a clue what this post is saying, or who the people are being referred to? lol Just for you, Turbo: Bella Thorne = actress Only Fans (OF) = subscription site (w/ adult content) ‘Normal’ Pictures = not porn DM = direct message Bhad Bhabie = Dr. Phil show villain / teen rapper NSFW = not suitable for work Limiters = OF’s cap on creators’ earnings
  24. It looks like he charges $200 per request, so to earn $1 million (not accounting for Cameo’s cut), he needs to make 5,000 videos per year. That works out to nearly 14 videos per day, so he’s probably spending 10 hours every week making Cameo videos. $1 million doesn’t sound that absurd for 1/4 of a popular comedian’s productive time. That’s pretty cool, though.
  25. Lonely men and women after a year of very little social life will do stupid things. Yes I know that last comment was sarcastic but it is going to be interesting to see what the impacts of the lockdowns had on the general population. I wouldn't be surprised to see a rise in some social psychological issues. Oh, no doubt ... people have needs and the past year has been especially trying. I don’t mean to be insensitive. I just find it odd that the average person can spend up to 40 years working to fund their retirement; meanwhile, a teenager can sell her nudes online and become a millionaire overnight. Capitalism is wild.
