  1. Probably should have traded Adams for a left tackle.
  2. Why is Sammy Watkins wearing long sleeves? It's 71.
  3. I'm far less concerned about Rodgers eventually finding a WR than I am about this defense reading its own press clippings. They have looked terrible.
  4. What FA WR should they have signed and with what money? They offered their best to Adams. He didn't wanna be here. Week 1 is always goofy. They might suck though. Guess we'll see.
  5. I can accept they are rusty offensively or whatever, maybe. But isn't the defense supposed to be good or something.
  6. Three straight 13-win seasons qualifies as due for things not go your way.
  7. Why bother? Their seed hasn't seemed to help them too much.
  8. Packers way overdue for a poor regular season but I'll wait until Week 4 to feel one way or the other.
  9. They are so predictable it's just incredible
  10. I'm in favor it all. It's just gotten too hard to hit MLB pitching. The shift rules are liberal enough that the shift isn't really "dead." The clocks, I'm in total support of. Almost anything that gets the game time down is good. I'd love to see 7 inning games, personally, but that's radical.
  11. I personally have felt that the whole "clubhouse demoralized because of Hader" thing was the very low-hanging fruit of things to blame for this season. The team just isn't THAT good. It's decent, but not in the echelon it was in 2018, or even 2019 or 2021. Their schedule turned much harder later in the season. That said, I'll still think they'll get one of the Wild Cards. Sidenote, I'm also tired of the idea that they should have traded him at last year's deadline. They were a 95-win team that got cold at an inopportune time. Last year was absolutely not the time to trade him, they had a chance to do something last year. And it's baseball, they still do now. But I think they traded him at precisely the correct time, even if he was gangbusters in SD right now.
  12. Don't mistake this for optimism because I think this team looks bad. But it never fails to amaze me how short people's memories are. There are 43 games to play. That's 1/4 of the season. We've seen, in very recent history, the Brewers bounce back from a worse standing with less time. It's by no means over yet. I'd bet on STL, but it's still not over. I just don't get the matter-of-fact "we're done" statements. Somebody chokes away a lead late almost every year. It's baseball. Much stranger things have happened than a division leader falling back 5 games with an "easy schedule" with a month and a half to go.
  13. Depends if Rodgers is playing again. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that Love is our starter next year because we win the Super Bowl and Rodgers decides that's it. If Rodgers did retire I think Love will keep us competitive. Just by the decision making and touch he has shown I feel confident he will be a decent starter. He will also most likely have a very good defense around him. And I don't think we're too far away from the scenario where the Packers feel like they can't just lose Love but Rodgers isn't ready to quit. I don't think we're there yet. I think we could be next year. Your question already looks harder to answer than it was last year though. I guess it depends on what Rodgers is saying behind closed doors. If he's giving one year commitments then maybe I don't like that trade. If he's saying he wants to go to 45 then maybe you do trade Love....or maybe you trade Rodgers. I'm inclined to say no. If it was a top 5 pick maybe, but it wasn't that high of a pick where you're assured of a real impact player.
  14. Anyone pretending that he doesn't look way better is lying to themselves to, strangely, convince themselves they are right. I dunno if he's going to Canton but I feel pretty confident about the odds of him getting the keys to lead a team (somewhere) eventually. I don't think he's Akili Smith or something.
  15. Love is dropping absolute dimes
  16. I didn't see any of the first game. I think Love looks fine. Made some really nice throws and very athletic.
  17. They're overdo to uder-perform expectations. On paper, the team looks better to me than it's been in quite a while. The defense is looking like one of the best, they don't have a star WR, but other than that it's awfully hard to see a real liability on the team. Someone will get hurt. Let's hope it's just one guy and not catastrophic (QB).
  18. I wouldn't give up, there's too much time left and we've seen some wild Septembers in very recent history. That said, this roster has a serious offense problem. They can't compete in free agency and there just isn't enough pipeline help coming fast enough to be paired with the stellar pitching talent. It just seems like they can't get both of those going simultaneously. The Yelich debacle looms large over us unfortunately. He's a serviceable player, but this offense just can't have a $27mm slap singles hitter. It's a very different team with a .900 OPS Yelich, but yeah there are a bunch of other issues offensively.
  19. Things could be way worse, but man is it hard to watch a team that just can't hit to save its life.
  20. They have to pay all of it unless he's traded or something but it sounds like all parties arrived at this together and he is going to retire. He said he'll give it a day or two but he sure sounded like a guy who is done. The Brewers did him a solid by allowing the year of service to accumulate thereby guaranteeing full salary and max pension.
  21. For what he was earning I would have liked the OPS to be around .800 but the guy was 35. It was hard to tell with him always grimacing but it felt like the body really started to fail him last season. He was OK last year, but missed a ton of time. One of those deals where the first year and a half looked like a bargain and the back-end imploded worse than they'd probably built into the contract. There have been far worse contracts, but I also felt like there was a bit of buyers remorse causing some to overstate how much his glove compensated for lack of offense. Good player, very likable guy, but it was time.
  22. Didn't know this but today was the day he reached 10 years of service and thus was guaranteed maximum pension. So they waited for that to DFA.
  23. His time here teeters on disappointment for me but he did just enough to probably avoid that label. He was outstanding in 2018 and his glove bailed him out in 2019... After that it was pretty rough.
