  1. Lol, yes, on Page 1 of this. The idea that ANY fan has even a soft handle on their finances is outrageous.
  2. Wasn't he holding up Tampa as a model for what you can do with $70 million while campaigning for David Stearns to be fired?
  3. I'm still on board the Counsell train, but I don't think he deserves much credit for this season. It's a watered down NL and Christian Yelich. He's had jack to work with and really hasn't done anything all that impressive. He certainly hasn't had the magic touch he seemed to last year.
  4. I realize I'm responding to a post that's like two years old, but I don't find this really hard to rationalize. It's personally not really my thing, but if you love actually playing that much, I can't imagine anything better than getting to do so in a real facility with a bunch of actual old players from your favorite team. For $4700 or whatever and everything that's included it sounds like an extremely reasonable deal, and it's better than late Jan/early Feb in Milwaukee. Sure it's expensive, but plausible for something that sounds like it could be a helluva lot of fun for the right person.
  5. Not much of a mystery. The way they use the pen you can't have multiple guys up and warming all the time. Many basically have to pitch if they get stretched out.
  6. What evidence do you have that he's going to push the payroll to $130 million? He only pushed it to a little over $120 million this year with the expectation of higher attendance and being one game short of the World Series. After this year we're going to finish with around a .500 record and probably short of 3 million fans (need to average over 40,000 the rest of the season to hit that mark.) I think it's far more likely he drops it to the $105-110 million range and at best he'll keep it at around $120 million. After the playoffs in 2008, he kept the payroll basically the same for 2009. After the playoffs in 2011, he raised it $15 million but then dropped it $10 million the next year when the 2012 team flopped. If this was actually the plan, they would've had a long leash to figure it out, not 12 combined starts between Burnes and Peralta. They were absolutely horrible. Burnes was so bad a random guy off the street couldn't have been worse. Nobody would have predicted him being as bad as he was.
  7. The guys being flat and disinterested in just fan forum nonsense. You don't win a 14-inning road game at 2am against a contender if you're either one of those things. Fans love equating a lack of success with "not trying" or something else. Let's at least be realistic. These are pros with contracts on the line and a season that still isn't dead even now. Everybody is trying. Moreover, Counsell was just recently voted one of the most respected managers in some poll by players, someone else can cite exactly what it was. Now, there may be merit to what you're saying, maybe he's not the right guy. But again, can we just step off the ledge a bit around here? This team was in Game 7 of the NLCS last year. He seemed right then. And we're going to do what exactly? Replace him with who? How do we know that is the right guy? Counsell is here for now. I would think he'd got at least until 2021 and if we stink next year, he'll enter that season on the hot seat. We can discuss it all we want but he is not getting fired. As an aside, I'm personally over the whole, you have to scream at the ump and kick and throw things on the field like a 5-year-old or you lack passion. There is absolutely nothing you can glean from whether or not a guy throws a tantrum as it relates to their fitness to be a manager. I don't think that shows anything other than a lack of self control.
  8. I bought the whole playoff strip today to get the credit card points without expecting to actually have to pay the bill, so you can bet on the Brewers knocking off 10 straight here now. I'll take one for the team.
  9. I think Stearns blew it in several ways, but I do think his intent was always throwing those 3 young SP into the fire and giving them a long leash to figure it out. We can't draft and develop SP like everyone dreams of without giving those guys space to work. If we sign a bunch of Chase Andersons the development aspect just doesn't work. It went worse than he probably thought it would. I wish they had gotten just one established starter even though I don't think it would've made a real difference, but I don't really fault him for trotting those three guys out to start the year. I think he was ready for the team to regress and just didn't anticipate just how awful 2 of the 3 would be. A 5-ERA would've been bad but passable for where they are. I just don't think he envision 10+, especially out of Burnes. I sure didn't. I thought he was pretty close to a lock for being an MLB starter and he was just horrific. Part of his long-term sustainability mantra was always going to be developing those guys and having faith in them even if they looked bad early on. We are going to HAVE to develop our own SP if this is ever going to work.
  10. Game 7 of the NLCS is "worst thing that can happen to us." That says it all right there.
  11. Sounds like you miss the Frosty Boys.
  12. I alluded to this a little bit in the IGT but next year looks like more of the same to me. Of course, you can always get better luck. Is Knebel healthy? Is Suter? Woodruff? Can Shaw play? Do we have Grandal? Moose? Nobody knows this stuff. But I think 2021 will be more of that pressure cooker season than 2020. That off-season seems like the one there could be a real loading up to give it one big shot. But nobdoy saw last year coming. It's easy to feel like things are dire when you're having this kind of season. Things tend to go north or south much faster than we think.
  13. Dubon is a dud. But I probably would have kept him with that return.
  14. They weren't going to get quality pen arms. They have nothing to trade unless it's an actual good player off the MLB roster which isn't solving any problems.
  15. 2021 they should have a lot of payroll flexibility and it's likely decision time on Yelich so it seems likely that it's a season for a final push a la 2011 or at least a year they decide to trade him for a nice haul. Next year, who knows, lots can change, but there are problems here and our impending FAs aren't helping.
  16. We suck, oh well. I'm kinda excited for 2021, but struggling to find next year a whole lot better.
  17. I don't think I've ever been more exhausted of a hot take ever in 35 years.
  18. There have been plenty of late 30s outfielders who remained productive late. Mike Cameron comes to mind. I think if Cain didn't grimace constantly and pretend to be hurt, people wouldn't be so quick to assume he must be declining due to age. You have to bring him back and hope he gets it back together.
  19. Soccer? lol I don't watch it. I don't want to get political or ruffle any feathers, but let's just say that 2 seasons ago, the NFL gave me a reason to stop watching. What I have found is that I tremendously enjoy my free time that my no NFL policy has given me. I no longer waste every Sunday sitting on the couch for 7 hours watching pre-games, games, and post games. (and that isn't counting Sunday night games, another 3 hours) I no longer waste every Monday night watching two teams I probably don't like. No more wasted Thursday nights or Saturdays late in the season. No more fantasy leagues, nothing NFL related at all. The amount of free time I have cleared is amazing.. This coming from a die hard previous NFL super fan. Not to mention, I no longer spend money on NFL merchandise. That is also a big bonus in the pocketbook. So between time and money, I don't miss it at all, not one single bit. After high school I never watched anything but Packers. How some guys can park on the sofa and watch every random game on TV has always blown my mind. I can't do that with any sport.
  20. You question whether he will ever win a World Series? I resigned myself years ago to the fact that the Brewers winning a World Series in my lifetime is much less than a 50 percent proposition. It’s 50 years and counting now and a lot fewer than 50 years left. It’s not like they have anything close to a 1 in 30 chance of winning in any given year. I resigned myself to the reality they probably won't. 2011 was really the year they probably should have. But, if they ever do, I know that'll be a lot more fun than any Red Sox, Yankees or Cardinals title.
  21. If it makes anyone feel better, the Nats scored 13 runs again
  22. Unwatchable is exactly what football is and replay led it to a slow and agonizing death. I'd rather have no replay and trashed calls than replay, agonizing pace, the field-scan for flags after EVERY climactic play, and oh, by the way, THEY STILL GET THEM WRONG ALL THE TIME.
  23. According to most people's expectations 2019 was supposed to be the first year they were competing. He vastly overachieved in '17 and '18. A season like this was going to happen, and they are still giving us a reason to watch this late. He had a bad year, but people's expectations also have gotten quite lofty. Which is fine, and what people should demand from the team. It actually says a lot about how far this franchise has come. This kind of season was a dream for many people in the late 90s and 2000s. We can moan and groan about the farm or FA but it has been "depleted" and "overflowing with the talent" and "depleted" again all within the last four years. These things change fast. Stearns is fine. He will go back to the drawing board and learn.
  24. The transition is easy...because then it's football season I used to think this. Now I'm happier grocery shopping to get a chore done. The four-hour flag fests lost me. Baseball isn't fast and thrilling, but it doesn't sell itself that way either. I enjoy the pace, checking in and out, even listening to Bill and Rock...plus, if I go, it's 80 degrees and I can enjoy peanuts and beer. Football used to be my favorite by FAR, but baseball has definitely taken its place for me personally. I can't imagine how bad the National Flag League will be with reviews of pass interference...absolutely ridiculous.
  25. I would kind of enjoy somehow getting Derek Johnson back and then still having our pitching staff suck just to put that nonsense to bed already.
