  1. Just so it is more of a pro-style offense and not the Gary Anderson-like option offense. Yes, you can win with the right players in option football, but I find it very boring to watch. When I first heard bits about Fickle's preferred offense, it sounded more option focused (i.e. wanting a QB that could run), but it seems like there will still a strong passing game focus.
  2. I'd take him back. I think he brought a good ying to MLF's yang for our offense.
  3. I think you are right. Rewatching the second half and I see 38 instead of 58. Probably threw me a bit because he played close to the LOS often. Though, on Jaire's INT (and a few other times), they did have 3 MLB - Walker, Campbell, and Barnes with two DL. I generally noticed it when I was looking at the DL to see if Wyatt was in. From what I can see, if Barnes was in, they were in a 2-5-4 (with Barnes/Campbell/Walker) and if Gaines was in, it was a 2-4-5 (with Savage/Amos/Gaines). The result seemed to really fill in the middle of the field where Tua liked completing passes - to MIA in the first half...to GB in the second. Wyatt did have a good game. Hopefully, he takes Lowry's snaps now. Hollins was solid out there for a backup. Not much pressure on pass rush, but set the edge well. I'd really like to know what is up with Tonyan. Has he lost his burst? Used to be our endzone killer, but has hardely even had his name called for weeks.
  4. I did see Ford chasing on a couple plays, but it wasn't because he wasn't "fast enough". He is one of our fastest players. He was normally coming from the opposite side. But he didn't make many plays yesterday. I think Savage did get more play in the second half with less Ford. Neither did much, IMO.
  5. I have to admit that the second half defense was interesting. Seems like they were running a 2-5-4 at times with three MLBs (Campbell, Walker and McDuffie). Maybe I got that wrong... I didn't stop to count who was there. But McDuffie was out there fairly often in the second half and I never saw Walker or Campbell out. And I noticed several times with out two DL - Clark+Reed. Anyone else notice that? That certainly seemed to help cut out some of the middle routes that Tua was feasting on early.
  6. I wonder if Drury knows what wide ranging and emotionally driven topics he has inspired here? ?
  7. Warren Buffet knows a bad investment when he sees it!
  8. I'm guessing Bahk stays for 2023. For a few reasons: His relationship with Rodgers. If Rogers is back, I'd bet Bahk will also. When healthy he is REALLY good. I just think they will give him another year to bounce back. $6M really isn't that big of a gain despite our cap issues. Perhaps he would be open to a reconstruction of his contract?
  9. Yes, we struggle at developing catchers, but we also don't invest capitol for drafting Catchers either. Of that long list of 16 catchers, it includes these high round draft picks: 1st Round (1) - Coulter* 2nd Round (3) - Garfield, Johnson, and Feliciano 3rd Round (2) - Lucroy and Sweet Lou *even though drafted as a catcher, it was widely assumed Coulter couldn't stick there. The fact that he did for a while is either a credit to Brewer development or a failure for not getting him to focus long term on his bat at an easier defensive position. So, there really hasn't been much of a focus on bringing in the talent to succeed either. Can't blame the coaches if a 20th rounder fails - that is the norm. But I guess if we rank pretty high at MLB catcher WAR yet fail to develop our own... we are doing something right. Also, you should fix that spelling error in the article. It should be "Woah SOLVDD"
  10. We should sign him for 3B! Though it wouldn't be horrible to see what he has on an MiLB deal... He was an All-Star in his last year with us and hit 843 OPS, and fit well in the clubhouse. So yes, I think a lot of people wanted him back. Not necessarily on a 4 year deal... Frankly it is still a little surprising how he dropped off so badly. Hit well one year for Cincinnati but poorly the last two.
  11. Just so he doesn't go around leaking our offense and defensive secrets!
  12. Huh... Baseball Economics season came early this year.
  13. If you mean prospect level yes. If you mean comparable talent as baseball players... not even close. Garrett Mitchell has more speed and less SLG. More defense but less arm. Mitchell has a higher floor, but a lower ceiling, IMO. Wiemer could probably range between Ryan Braun with a stronger arm (ceiling) and Glenn Braggs (AAAA OF that killed minors, but can't make the jump to majors) for the low end. Lots of power, but mostly Ks). A right handed Jeromy Burnitz comp might not be far off. Mitchell makes me think of Lorenzo Cain for a ceiling comp - good CF defense, hit for average+OBP with normal CF power. (Buxton keeps popping up in my head too due to similar size and injury issues, but Bux has more power and less AVE/OBP). Lower end I can't think of a decent comp (Tony Gwynn Jr, but taller?). The defense is there already, but might be a 650-700 OPS "just a guy" CF for the floor. So talent wise I see them very different. Both could have big impacts prospect wise however.
  14. Players coming and going is the nature of all sports these days. It is pretty rare for one player to remain on a team his whole life. Even then, they age and retire. I was devastated when Molitor left in FA so many years ago..as were many. But people move on. The average fan is more a fan of the game than individual players. As long as the average fan can come to the BP and see a competitive game with a fun team, they keep coming.
  15. Right. Its about playing on an uneven playing field. The hard cap in the NFL was the best thing for it.... levels things out and allows more even competition.
  16. Per the Aikman/Buck discussion, there seem to be two camps: One where the offense (minus OL) meets at the same time and one where each group meets separately. Probably isn't quite that black and white, but that was the discussion. Norv Turner was referenced as one that did the group thing. I think the point is more about making sure the passing game, expectations, and adjustments are all on the same page. The Lazard sit or keep running adjustment is a good example of that. I think Rodgers didn't see the safety, but otherwise they both have to read the play and expect the same adjustment. A few weeks back Toure made an adjustment based on where the safety played him and caught a TD. Expecting back shoulder throws when the CB is on top... Stuff like that. OL protections (at least as far as the QB communications standpoint) I think tend to have fewer subtleties. The QB does call certain protections, but the OL does most between themselves. Back in the days of Nelson, Cobb, and Jones, they played together so long, the communication was natural. This year there were simply too many new WRs and it was clear they were not on the same page. I think Watkins biggest failure (evidenced from various articles about him and seeing him play) is that he never got those adjustments and simply ran the route as called.
  17. From what I've read, his bat mechanics have scouts concerned. More than just his K rate in the minors, the thought is that MLB pitchers will accentuate the issue. The flip side is that scouting is scouting and there are always exceptions. He seems to have the athleticism to be an exception too.
  18. I remember discussion about drafting both and they certainly tried to move up for Urlacher. He was also my draft crush that year.
  19. I'm in the camp that thinks Lazard was right. Rodgers didn't see the safety. Lazard read the D and sat down in a huge hole. If he'd have kept going, the safety either clocks him or has a better chance than Lazard to catch it given the angles they were running (Lazard over his shoulder, the safety running up to it).
  20. Some interesting comments made by Joe and Buck last night... MLF switched up the offensive meetings so that the QBs and WRs are in the same meetings at the same time while discussing plays and intents... I'm stunned that it has taken him this long. Seems like a logical way to get your team on the same page offensively.
  21. Yes, I still can't route for them to lose. Especially with the possibility of things clicking at the end of the season and the chance to beat the Vikings, squeak into the playoffs and knock the Vikings out of the playoffs... Forget that Super Bowl; that would be enough. ?
  22. With the Bucks playing so well, it's kind of surprising to see how poorly they are shooting 3s. Allen, Lopez, and Carter are the only ones hitting 3s well (>39%) with Nwora and Holiday doing OK (~36%). With only Lopez being above normal. Then we have Bobby, Pat, Khris, Matthews, Beauchamp, and Hill all under 33% with Giannis at 26%. So basically, they have been playing at the top of the league and still have a chance to get better by having Pat, Khris, Bobby (and Ingles) hit 3s at a more normal rate. And having Giannis stop shooting them. ?
  23. They seemed to be a bit more hyped up too during. People firing to the ball.
  24. Time to run the jet sweep. They are over compensating on the interior runs.
